I wouldn't get rid of AA entirely, keeping it as a recreational division only. If you're trying to win a regional and/or world championships, at least play at the AAA level.

You would have to get rid of allowing 2 out of region players for the current Major+ teams since that level is the only one that allows it. You couldn't allow everyone have it because it takes money to bring in those players and most teams don't have those type of funds.

It's not an even playing field right now (Major & Major+) but it wouldn't take much to make it so.

Quality and competitive...your teams got bumped to Major so you don't want to play with them?

Discussion: A True Equalizer

You are correct, Cognac. The so called equalizer is weighted too much toward the lower teams. In most of our non sanctioned tournaments we play the rules you described, if the lower team wants to take their gifted runs, then they have to play up to the higher HR rule. People tend to forget that 5 run innings are an equalizer in itself, keeping most games close.

I don't think anyone is worrying much about cone shaped tape or more than two layers. Juiced bats are becoming an epidemic in senior softball, yet no one seems to be too concerned with doing anything about it!

A couple of years ago there was a discussion (on the website) to allow unlimited defensive players, just like courtesy runners. Any player on the lineup card could go in and play defense for anyone but not be hitting. You would still have a regular batting order of the starters. Interesting ... especially in seeding games to get everyone some action.

Discussion: Speed up rules

One thing that can be eliminated totally is the practice of some "coaches" slowly walking out to the mound trying to be Billy Martin to talk with the pitcher along with the whole infield. Come up with some hand signals if you need to be that controlling.

Discussion: 2017 Schedule

I think they usually are able to get the "big" ones out right after the convention, so a little over a month from now. Bruce is correct that the schedule is pretty much the same from year to year although the age groups do flip to different weekends sometimes.

Discussion: Why are runs allowed the decider?

The 7th inning, or the last inning shouldn't count for run differential unless both teams hit in it.

Discussion: Speed up rules

We played 7 games in Las Vegas and not one game went 7 innings. The 1 and 1 count would give us about 10 more minutes(1 inning)of playing time instead of standing around time. This will eventually pass when the majority of the players have experienced it in USSSA when they were younger but may take a few more years.

2 on deck batters helps a bit as bond stated. Some umpires allowed it in Vegas while others did not.

The 1 and 1 count does speed things up about 8 to 10 minutes a game, not 3 or 4 minutes. Once again ... no one wants to get the games over quicker, the goal is to get more GAME ACTION in the time allotted for each game. The 1 and 1 count would do this.

Discussion: which do your prefer on a 5 game guarantee?

Would like to see the RR games mean more than seeding because you can see a bunch of new guys show up on Saturday for an 0-2 team sometimes. Give the higher seeds the hammer, now you're playing for something and those games are much more important.

Like the 3 day tournaments for the "bigger" and more "destination" places they are held. As for some of the events they are just glorified local tournaments that can easily be played in 2 days.

A 1 and 1 count will speed up your league play without having to worry about the confusing flip flop.

Discussion: Half Run Rule

There were 24 teams in that Lacey tournament with 15 different age/classification groups. This was just a pre-season event getting some games in but there are just too many different playing groups (and rules) overall.

Discussion: Do we pay to play by the hour??

A 1 and 1 count would shave about 8-10 minutes off of standing around watching batter's take 3-4 pitches and allow us to get that last inning in most of the time.

Discussion: Doeflinger Major Really?

The TOC was a 2015 event regardless that it's played 2 1/2 months later than it should be but that's the only reason they were still rated Major. If they would have participated in the Winter Nationals last November, they would have been Major+. Yes, the two tournaments should be flipped but it's not going to change anytime soon.
