Discussion: Texas AA Team Seeking Pitcher and Outfielder

This is to confirm Don Ray's post. This is a great group of ball players that get along very well. Lots of after game functions for players, wives, girlfriends, and family. They can and do win tournaments.

Discussion: Looking for 55 major players turned 60

Looking for 55 major players that recently turned 60 or turning 60 in 2014. This tournament team is currently made up of players from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. We are especially interested in outfielders, but other positions will be considered. We will be playing in 9 to 12 tournaments during FY 14. Send your contact information and playing history to psbydesign@cox.net. All inquiries will be confidential.

Discussion: SPA...Pull the plug on Springfield

It's time to pull the plug on approving tournament play in Springfield under the same Director. Four years ago the tournament was a disaster when the Director allowed players to switch teams during the event. This was at the amazement of teams with players as far away as Iowa. They said they wouldn't come back and they have not returned. Many other players agreed with the Iowa team.

Even though last year's event didn't attract a lot of teams, there weren't any surprises and the officiating was adequate. Now at 9 days before the event, the Director decided to delay the start of the 60+ group by ONE day. He is out of compliance with SPA rules. This does not fall under the inclement weather rule. The dates have been on the SPA website for months as May 17 and 18 and they are still there tonight, but he is calling teams this evening to inform them of the change. Why? According to his voice message, because a team asked him to make a change. What about the other teams with members who have already taken off work and booked travel and lodging arrangements? This is very poor tournament management and the Director has no idea of the financial impact that a well planned tournament can benefit or ruin a community.

I'm cancelling my lodging, flights, and rental car tonight. Good luck, Springfield!

Why hasn't the brackets been completed? If you want to keep the interest level up, post the scores when they are available. Fans at home want to know, even though they didn't get to attend. Congrats to all 60 AAA.

They still don't know that we pay the taxes (fees) and we want something in return. Must be democrats?

Winter worlds finished better than expected. Officiating was great the last day. Shame so many teams had to endure Saturday with only ONE umpire.

Can anyone tell me if you had one or two umpires for bracket play on Wednesday or Thursday?

The report speed has improved by 50 percent. Nothing was posted after pool play. Did the office go home for the weekend? It was also a big let down to have 2 umpires for pool play and only ONE for bracket play. Most if not all calls on plays at the bases or catches in the outfield were made from behind the plate. This process is very common for league play, but paints a very poor picture for a World or National Championship.

Fans at home like seeing tournament results while the event is occurring. If you want to build the sport, a better job of reporting is needed. If you like being the old people's league, don't change a thing. Driving a horse and buggy from Florida to California takes days.

I may have made a mistake. Was it SPA? The group that is famous for not reporting for months. My appologies, SPA. Either way, both groups should give the fans what they want. Immediate RESULTS!

Discussion: Communication with Fans of the Game

SSUSA spoiled everyone during the National Tournament. Official posted games and results quickly. Many can't attend all tournaments, but that doesn't mean we are not still fans of the game. There is a high interest level amoung players and friends that are not participating. Give the fans what they want by posting up to the minute results. We will all benefit.

The 1 and 1 count format is terrible. It changes the game dramatically. Las Vegas was a successful tournament because of the number of teams. Don't change it, people won't come back. There is nothing worse than spending money on a tournament with 6 teams in your bracket or not getting a five game guarantee.
