Discussion: Teams in Rochester ny

Rochester needs a good women's senior team. We've got several good men's travelling teams.
Rochester has 2 softball seasons. The summer sessions organize in April and play May through August, and the fall sessions play September into early November. The senior (50 & over) Mecca is at the Irondequoit Winton & Empire facilities (turf) but I don't believe there are any women's senior teams. There are many co-ed leagues at the Cobbs Hill & Sportspark complexes. You usually need to reserve a position in your league of choice with payment and rosters in advance. (Get a good sponsor to cover the league fees and some numbered uniforms.)
Hope you find a place to play.

Discussion: Black home plate mat moves

Some great pitchers are able to take advantage of the slightest (1") askew slant to the unattached mats. They instruct their catchers NOT to straighten them out unless the ump notices. Raining a deep one in on the hands can be very effective. (These guys are good.)

smtty - Roch NY senior leagues are held at MacAvoy Park (Empire Blvd.)in Irondequoit. There are at least 6 travel/tourney teams across all senior age groups. Things are just starting up so you should be able to catch on with a team quickly. See you there.

CAT - U2MAX - Pop=10+, Durability= hot until it breaks - mine has 200 shots - still HOT! (28oz but I always use an end loaded bat, qakhntr is probably right to have you drop down 1oz for the 1/2 oz end load.)

Discussion: Deleteing The PPR Rule

A major improvement in pitcher safety would be to change the ball (slightly). Surface hardness, density, and compression are all critical to coming up with a ball that is not a 100 mph brick. There are alot of smarter guys in here that know how to do this. They know that the big boppers can hit a week old grapefuit 300 feet. They know that we've all spent a gazillion dollars on our own personal equipment.
Let's not wreck this game with additional equipment and policies that aren't needed.
Change the ball. (Slightly.)

jr - they DO move teams up for "D". We're up and we don't hit it over the outfielders - we just win - once in a while.
Good Luck in VA - our money's on you guys.

Discussion: looking for a team in Rochester, NY area

The AAA Rochester Classics (Retros)are a great bunch of guys, most of whom play in the Monday & Tuesday senior leagues at MacAvoy Park in Irondequoit. They are a seriously talented travel team. Don't know if they need anybody but Don Trimaldi or Dan Guilfoyle would be a good place to start.

Discussion: WHY THE PPR MUST GO

PPR or not - ARMOUR UP! Cmon guys, cut out the macho BS and wear some protection. Nobody wants to hit a pitcher but it happens. Nobody wants to make an out. Most guys situation hit and go with the pitch. Most guys try to hit the ball as hard as possible.
MVP (Leo) - you listening?? The team will buy this stuff for you!!! Armour up.

Discussion: MATS - One and One Count

The mat standardizes the ball/strike call leaving the ump to only have to call the corners and the arc. It's alot less subjective and minimizes player frustration. Good hitters can always adjust to hit a legal strike - and - nobody likes a walk - not hitters/pitchers/umps/fans.
The 1-1 count is just another strategy adjustment to make with the benefit of being able to get in more action in a shorter time. It can be used as a way to negate the runs-per-inning rules that many teams dislike (more runs - reasonable timing) but it's probably best suited to league play vs. tourneys. Games do seem to move better with it and a hustle in/ hustle out no BS between innings mentality.

Discussion: Pitcher Protect - LARGE GLOVE

Bruce - Thanks. I have seen many larger than 14" mitts used in Major&AAA play. The rule - if any - is loosely policed and thats OK with me. I don't know how guys needing a quick response use them but if they provide additional safety I think they should be allowed.

Discussion: Pitcher Protect - LARGE GLOVE

Is there a rule that dictates the size and shape of a fielder's glove? Does it prevent a pitcher (or 3B) from wearing any size or shape they choose.
Some may wish to go to the large scoop or oversized OF gloves now available.

Discussion: There's STATS and there are stats...

When determining a team's MVP, stats are a significant part of the criteria, but not always the most important decision driver. When a team plays together for an entire season(s), often an individual performance of leadership, un-selfishness, or some other spiritually relevant reason should allow the team to choose it's MVP - not a tournament director. (You have to be on the inside to know who.)

Triple play turned in finals of winners bracket in Vegas 55AAs. Men on 1&2nd, ground ball to 2nd baseman, Eddie throws to Joe(SS) covering who throws to Denny (1st) just expecting to turn a DP but the guy on second hesitates going to 3rs long enough for the 1st to 3rd(Rico) throw to get him by a step. Fun to watch from left field.
