Discussion: Appeals Board

Disciplinary Action.

Dave, thanks for agreeing to respond. I’m looking for answers to some basic questions regarding the suspension of a player
for violating SSUSA rule(s) and whether such player can appeal such a suspension.
(1) Is there a written SSUSA procedure regarding appealing a suspension and, if so, can I receive a copy?
(2) How does a suspended player appeal his suspension? In writing? Verbal?
(3) Does he have a time-frame in which he can appeal a suspension?
(4) If there is an Appeals Board, what is the composition of that Board. Number of people? Type of positions within SSUSA who might be on such a Board.
(5) Does the suspended player have a right to “appear” (telephonic?) before the Board to present his case. If he’s not “permitted” to appear before the Board, can he submit a written explanation supporting his appeal?
(6) How long before the Board renders a final decision, and is it in writing explaining the justification for the suspension.
(7) Anything else which might be pertinent.

I apologize for the number of questions, but this is important.

Thank you in advance.

Steve

What is the run equalizer, if any, when a 40 major team plays a 50 major plus team; i.e. 40M vs. 50M+?

If a team was registered as 60M in 2022, can it re-register with the same players in 2023 as a 55AAA team in order to pick up some 55-59 year olds? Please explain one way are the other.

Discussion: Tie-Breaker in Round-Robin Play

Thanks, mck71. Your explanation certainly makes a lot of sense.

But let me pose the following question:
If during the seeding round, your team plays every team in your division but also plays one of the teams in another division, is this still a "FULL" round-robin?

For example,
Division I consists of Teams A, B, and C. Team A plays B and C but also plays Team D from Division II.
Team B plays A and C but also plays Team E from Division II. And finally, Team C plays A and B but also plays Team F from Division II.
Since the Teams in Division I all have slightly different seeding schedules, is this still considered a "FULL" round-robin?

Discussion: ISA Rock Softballs vs. NSA Rock Softballs

Dave, I should have been clear as to what I was after. I actually want to know if there's a difference in how one ball performs over the other. Maybe one travels further than the other. Something like that.

I understand that X-Rock-ISA-Y 44/400, Composite Cover, Poly Core Trump Stote softballs were used at the 2022 Spring Worlds and are currently being used at the 2022 Southwest Championships. I have several dozen X-Rock-NSA-Y 44/400, Composite Cover, Poly Core Trump Stote softballs.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two?

Discussion: Wild Throw

Runner on 1B. Batter hits the ball through the infield to the right fielder who throws the ball to the first baseman in an attempt to put out the batter-runner, but throws it out of play. Prior to the wild throw, the runner from 1B arrived at 2B but the batter-runner had not arrived at 1B.
Result: Runner scores and the batter-runner gets 2B. (Rule 8.4(10).D).

Same scenario, except the ball is hit to the shortstop.
Result: Runner gets 3B and batter-runner gets 2B. (Rule 8.4(10).E.1).
Why does this rule differentiate between a ball hit to an outfielder and a ball hit to an infielder?

Discussion: Batter hitting 2 balls at the same time

On Facebook, I saw a video of a flying over the backstop (probably a foul ball from another field) just as the pitcher was delivering a pitch. The batter swung and hit both balls at the same time. It appeared that he hit the pitched ball on the ground to the shortstop and the other ball somewhere into fair territory. What's the call? Is there a rule that covers this? If not, what's the rationale for your opinion?

4.8 • EJECTED PLAYER
"A player or coach who has been ejected from the game must leave the bench area, unless the act is determined to be flagrant, then the player or coach must leave the grounds..." --- SSUSA rule

If a player is ejected from a game during a tournament for a non-flagrant infraction, how long is he suspended from playing? Just the game in question? One more game? The remainder of the tournament?

Senior Softball Players,

Menifee Valley Upper Division Senior Softball (MVUDSS) is a Monday morning men's softball league for seniors 55+. Players turning 55 in 2020 are eligible to play in the Spring 2020 Season. Games are played at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Perris, CA.

Out-of-area teams have the option of playing once a week or playing doubleheaders every other week. We use SSUSA tournament rules and approved bats; e.g. Miken Ultra II is OK.

The league is open to tournament-caliber players. It consists of teams/players from the Menifee Valley, Hemet, Ontario, and North San Diego County areas, and walk-ons.

Teams will receive competitive tournament style play, professional umpires, the best possible ball fields, more games, and great prizes.

If you are interested in participating as an individual or team, please contact:

Discussion: Illegal Courtesy Runner?

OK, help me out here. Sure, the umpire could have avoided this entire mess if he would have called "time out!" --- agreed. And sure, the CR or manager should have yelled "runner, blue" --- agreed. Nevertheless, all players and the umpire were aware that the runner on 1B was now replacing the batter as a courtesy runner. So again I ask, has Rule 8.5(5) been violated and should the runner on 1B be called out on appeal as an illegal courtesy runner?

I'd also like to know, if you were the umpire what would you do?

Discussion: Illegal Courtesy Runner?

Rule 8.5(5) A courtesy runner must report to, and be acknowledged by, the umpire before play resumes. ...

Batter singles. It is clear that all action has stopped. While the umpire walks back toward home plate, the batter, with the umpire's knowledge, is replaced by a courtesy runner. However, the umpire did not verbalize "time out!" and there was no verbal communication between the courtesy runner and the umpire. Has Rule 8.5(5) been violated and the courtesy runner on 1B considered to be an illegal courtesy runner?

Wayne37, I can't find your first sentence in the rulebook. According to the SSUSA Staff, the answer to the math problem is "It's still a foul ball". Can anyone else weigh in on this and break the tie between Wayne37 and the SSUSA Staff?

Discussion: Player Rating

A 60 year-old player has been playing on a 55AAA team for, let's say, 2 years including several qualifiers with that team. His rating , therefore, is 55AAA. He then also joins a 60AA team. Is his rating now 60AAA or is it 60 major (which is the equivalent of 55AAA) and therefore ineligible to play on the 60AA team?
