Everybody has pros & cons about every aspect of SSball: but until we have a vote on the rules via Player Polls; you are going to get what is served. I have been advocating this for years in ALL associations. I believe last year a handful of people decided what was going to be changed & what was going to remain. Why have a Winter Summit? Cost a lot of money; most guys still work!! I think there are about 10K members in SSUSA (could be off on this); so that means that less than 1% decided the rules for ALL of us (if 10K is correct). Maybe it would be hard to mass email everyone. OK fine: send an eee to ALL coaches; getting them to contact ALL their players about rule changes; they report their ideas to the coaches; then unto SSUSA. Give the coaches one month to respond with their input!!! Then the majority makes the rules!!! If you do not vote after this scenario; then you have no reason to gripe. I cannot make the summit; ALL of my team mates cannot make the summit; but we can definitely give our opinions to our coach to send into the SUSA!!!

09.22.2006 Here is a thread that I started under the username TaterinGa; have changed to Tater50. Who, now, will join up with me?

I have not used & presently do not use & in the future will not use "Altered Bats".

If you really want to clean up softball, whether SSB or regular softball, then take a stand!!!

Good to hear from you Lefty: I think I weighed 180 when I was born; always had a problem w/the weight. Stones 1B: somewhere in the past someone thought that altering a bat would help,so they did & it begin to spread. My only intention is to try to turn the tide back the other way. I appreciate the input. Not trying to put anyone on the spot, just seeing if guys would look into the mirror & say; I have a God given ability & I will rely on that from this day on.

Stones; if that is the way you feel, so be it, but my honor is more important to me than just playing ball. I just read & read & read multiple post on all boards about altered bats. Just trying to see if anyone wanted to join me in an open stance & put their name on the line for all the players that view these boards, that they would not alter their bats. To me Playing ball is abiding by the rules of the associations & I will continue via e-mails to get a chain letter going that men will play on their "honor": they will not use altered bats. I have competed in the Major realm since 99 w/o the use of altered bats & will continue to do so. If you do not want to attach your name, no problem. Have a good day.

There were 3368 hits in reference to the supposed doctored bat in Seattle; here is what I am going to state.
On my honor: I promise that I have not used an altered bat(specially reloaded; rod removed or shortened, player's model, shaved, etc.) in 2006 (nor before; but will just leave it for this year) & I promise that in the years to follow that as a fellow senior softball player; I will not degrade these fine organizations
nor insult my fellow team mates by using an altered bats. I did put too much tape on my bats, but nothing else; they were passed by every ump. Who will follow suit & attach their name with honor?

Discussion: Why Some Players Do Not Use the U2

Bogie: Thanks for that input on the M7 120: I just bought a new one & have not put enough swings on it to build any confidence. Planning on using it in non-ASA events & save my V-1's.

Discussion: Why Some Players Do Not Use the U2

Up till this year I never owned a U2; I was asked to buy one from our coach (our team folded). I have always been a Worth man until 02 when most all bats were banned. I had a 32 oz SSEST & used it until it cracked. The only bat I had left in my bag was the Miken V-1; so I started using it. It suited my swing, so since then I have bought about 17; broken quite a lot of them. I use them in practice & have developed my confidence so I'd rather not use another bat. In 06', I borrowed the coaches U2. In response to some thoughts "why would anyone swing any other bat when the U2 is allowed", my personal info is that I do not want to get use to a bat that I cannot use in any other association. I am not saying that I will never swing another U2, I hope that I can stay with what I have been using so far. I am not trying to get into a verbal war about the U2, just denoting an idea as to why some guys swing the same bat all the time. They have built confidence in that bat & prefer to use it all of the time. Since the V-1 has gotten scarce I am having to buy other bats to see which suits my swing.

Discussion: Altered Bats & Bans

I have played Senior Ball since 99'; If possible, I would stand face to face w/Jesus Christ (cause I am a Christian) & tell him that I have NEVER used a shaved, rolled, vised or rod removed, or reloaded bat in a game. I have had one rolled before in front of many witnesses (a guy had built a new device & they wanted to try it out) but my conscience bothered me & I have never used it. I did not include the rolled part to start an issue about whether this is legal or not. The reason for this post is to state that if a player is protested about a bat & it is found altered, he only & whoever used it, should get the ban & NOT the whole team. As Master12 said:” For my part I have coached softball for 16 years, normally 2 to 3 teams each season as I did this season (40+, 45+, & 50+). I have around 50 players on the 3 teams and I do not have the time to check every players bats or other equipment and am probably not going to in the future. So if as the coach, I am to be lynched by all of you in the innocent masses then so be it.” If you have ever coached, you spend a lot of time planning the tourneys, hotels & etc; you do not know what all the players do in their off time. Only the player (s) that used the “proven” illegal bat should be banned; the degree of the ban is up to the associations.
Even though there are 11+ players on a team, everybody does not know about every player's bats. I strongly pushed the snowbird rule change in the SPA & got everyone that I knew to send respectful e-mails to the associations. I do not want to suffer because someone else cheats. So my vote is: if a player is caught w/an illegal bat, the whole team SHOULD not receive the penalty.
I never was in favor of the U2, but the majority wants it, (so be it) but as far as cheaters: allowing the Ultra II is not going to stop cheaters; they will reload, shave or whatever those bats also, Cheaters are cheaters are cheaters.

Discussion: Ultra II's Why?

I do not want the U2, never owned one till this year (was ask to buy one by our Miken semi-sponsored team), but I agree w/you guys. It has been voted in by the majority, so I will go with it. Mine is up for sale; why? Because, I do not want to get use to it, then when I go to another association that does not allow this bat, I do not have to change my swing. Bat confidence is very important to me. But, the bat is helping the senior association, so swing on.

Discussion: U2 FS 30 oz.

Our team was sponsored by Miken in 06', so our coach wanted us to buy a U2 to use in some of the senior associations, so I bought one (had never owned one before). Our team folded, so I have one FS. Has about 50 cuts & that includes BP; it DOES not have the W stamped in the plug. I have no receipt. It hits awesome, but I do not want to get use to it, I want to stay with my V-1's & other semi-comparable bats. It is a 30 oz.

$150 shipped.

Discussion: Norm Stafford/Stafford Sales

I hope you get this resolved. I played against Norm quite a few times when I had the JAH Masters team. Sometimes we won, sometimes Stafford Sales won, but all in all he acted very nice & was all class on the field & off of the field. His team was good for Senior Softball.
Anything can happen when you sponsor a team. I partially sponsored the JAH Masters team for 2 years; sponsorship is hard; in today's ever changing market, you never know what the financial situation is around the next curve. If you have ever owned & operated a business, you know what I am talking about. Anyway, trust you can get in contact w/him via personal e-mail or phone call. Good Luck to you & good luck to Norm. We need all the teams & players that we can get in Senior Softball.

You do not quit playing cause you get old;
You get old because you quit playing.

I would like to say THANK YOU Terry & Ridge for changing this rule. Myself & others pushed for a change & I tried to do it in a business fashion not a degrading one. So thanks to you, Ridge & ALL THE SENIOR SOFTBALLERS THAT E-MAILED TO CAUSE THIS CHANGE.

Discussion: GET IT IN WRITTING & FROM WHOM.

This is true Bruce: but as I talked w/SPA about this at the protest; the associations see so many rosters that they have to approve, they probably never look at each name to confirm their classification status. It made me look devious, which is the last thing that I want.

Discussion: Robbing Players from Teams

I presently am looking for a team, but since most teams are already complete, when coaches call me about playing, the first question I ask, will I be taking someone's spot. This is a difficult time to be looking for a team, but I want the coach to approve of the move.
If the majority of the team approves, then I would go.

I am not airing dirty laundry Bruce; If I have something to say I will send it e-mail, by phone or in person; I am simply indicating that each person needs to call for his own confirmation; that way you get it first hand, not second hand. And yes, Bruce; this thread is all about me, cause I am without a team & that is the reason for my post.

Thanks Don for the affirmation: I will also state that Don has placed all that he could into our team; I hope that you can find a spot. will keep an eye out for you.

Bruce; still the main topic of the paragraph is the 55 or 50 team. If you need an answer about that particular question for yourself, you can contact Ridge personally. That is what I did, so maybe each player that has been left hanging on the Old South team can call Ridge in reference to this rule.
