Discussion: ASA National Update

Mike: thanks for the concern. I had knee surgery in 1991; for about 8 weeks it has been weakening, now it is at the point that when I bend my left knee I collapse to the ground. Going for MRI next Thursday. I hate missing the ASA would be there if at all possible. I even put on a solid leg brace & tried to swing & something popped, so I was foolish, but I wanted to go real bad. Hope the tests prove OK.

PS Hate staying at home washing dishes, clothes & mowing the lawn. Oh, I guess I was not suppose to state that I do house work; sorry, not for Hire.

Connie: here is a passage of an 40+ old song that came to memory as I read your post.
In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face. While the storms howl above me & there's no hiding place. Midst the crash of the thunder precious Lord hear my cry, Keep me safe until the storm passes by. Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, till the clouds roll forever from the sky. Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of thy hand, You'll keep me safe till the storm passes by.

I believe & everyone else believe & you visualize Jerri back where she belongs.

Go to Floridassa.com; then go to the right side of the page & scroll down until you get to Screens, then click. This is the best screen that I have seen, folds down into an 8 X 8 X 36" I think, very portable, durable, & built well. Cost $285.00, but worth every dollar.

Come on MK: we know that the brain can process more than one thought. I want to get several balls rolling so that we will have some support at the summit. If it normally takes a while for these rules to be enforced, we need to roll with every revision we think is necessary. Look how Bro. Terry has already moved on the snowbird request; I just wish that the other Directors would post on their sights about the snowbirds. I do not believe that Mr. RB has any birds?? The more quality revisions that we can generate, the more players will give their input & we know that several heads are better than one.

TerryH: way to go; my hats off to you a big round of APPPPPLAUSE. You heard of a protest/complaint & you worked it out & posted the outcome. If we did not have this board think of all the time, money, faxes & letters this would have taken to get sorted out. Thanks Again Tater

MK: I am not in an attack mode when it comes to this board; so please do not take it that way. This board is valuable in spreading news. I will only attack rules like the snowbird that I think are totally unnecessary & that has been proven so far cause NOT ONE snowbird has come on to defend it. I am glad that you & others have insight that I do not have; info is very valuable when you travel a 1000 miles one way to a tourney. I would loved to have known about the snowbird before Texas; then I would not have been surprised. Thanks to everyone for the info, wish we had the money to come & compete against you guys at the USSSA. Sounds like it is going to be great.

PattyMac: Have a great time if you are going, but Bruce is just indicating what we heard @ Plano. I am not trying to get anyone into hot water; it is very confusing, you hear one report about Frozen Rosters; then another Senior association does not seem to comply. MK is pretty much right. I had to send in a frozen roster in 04' that is why we were so short at 4-5 Nationals; obviously I could have added players w/no problem; everybody else did. All you guys wear each other out before you get to the ASA Nationals. LOL

DBAX: please consider by posting this on this good board, we have gotten around 3000 hits; that means we have the players attention; everybody is talking about this subject; we will proceed with signatures; then present these to the summit.

Billy: I got this directly from the SPA about no player could be on 2 rosters. If it was like it was last year, it seems that only 2-3 teams complied with the rule. I am like this Billy: if we are going to have rules, let's make them overall & concise so that we know what is going on. No need to come to a tourney & see guys that we have played against for years, prayed with, laughed with & then get into a tongue war over something. This is suppose to be a fun game, but if the rules are not made clear & we have odd rules popping up like the snowbird deal, it causes us to ask a few questions. Senior Softball as a whole needs to address a lot of issues; stamp them out in black & white; send them to ALL managers; then you all will have a copy when you arrive at each tourney. Again, great Cullman Tourney.

Discussion: Classification Card

Why do not the associations have a Classification indentiy on your cards (ones that require cards)? At renewal:AA/AAA/Major/Major+ can be put on the card; then at each tourney they can be checked to see if a team is falsifying or overloading. If a card has already been issued, then a permanent stamp could be applied.

It is not a difficult thing to place all major players on a CD & send it to all Senior Associations, so that they can be checked @ any National Tourney.

The Pro: that should have stated TaterinGa, do not know how Bro Jimmy got on there. I am with you on these players that cannot play. Hey, need your help in Arizona. Get all players that you can to sign a petition against the snowbird rule & e-mail me for my address. I am going to compile a list to give to the Summit.

Allworld84@aol.com

By the way: Our company has 2 condos in Florida? Any Florida teams want me? Cause I can be a SNOOOOOOOOOWBIRD.

I think MK is like myself: we are trying to let every Senior Player know there is a snowbird rule that can affect you; it may have already affected you & you did not know it. What surprises me in all this, that no snowbird 's' has accepted the snowbird rule challenge & posted their thoughts. DBAX: we are not trying to cause a riff, we are causing awareness & we need your help w/every other Senior Player who finds this rule in error. If every Team Manager would get their players to sign a petition against this rule, then we can hand all of this to the Summit. Then we will see if the majority is heard.

To all associations: the snowbird issue has been on the boards consistently since July 19th; there has NO SNOWBIRD'S' that have stood up & given any reason that this rule should stay in force. Walk is not a snowbird, but must be a great guy, cause he has not twisted the rules & claimed that he lived 3 months in Ga or whereever just to get to play. (Good luck to you Walk) Therefore, it is pretty evident that NO ONE wants it, if so they would be defending the rule. Please take note of this & change this unnecessary rule.

I am presently not coaching this year, but my Bro Bruce & Don are, so I am sure they will tack on with you.

I have sent e-mails to every ball player and every Association Director I know trying to get this rule overturned. I think something should be done for players like Walk, but otherwise, playing across the country on a snowbird visa does not fit.

I must add that the ASA roster & I believe the USSSA (someone correct me here if I am wrong); the original roster has to be approved by the SD & then sent to the ND. Unlike other associations: most you can fax a copy.

I have noticed that we have had close to 3000 hits about the snowbird rule & not one snowbird has come forth, nor have we heard from the team mates of these snowbirds. I guess they are snowed under & cannot respond.

It is amazing: I have been playing since 99 & I can show you players that have played from Florida to the most extreme Northern States; do they live in an RV?? How does this get by the Directors??
