Discussion: Tired of breaking bats

Overall sounds like some people are saying a SUPER bat is coming out in two weeks you can hit as hard as you want.

Do not know about super bat, I use a Combat Centenarian 30 oz. Started last year and used in tournaments. Still going this year. Just played a tournament with 6 games some with temp below 60 degrees. Hit 3 out and several hit fense, longest was over 315'fense with about a 10' high fense and easily cleared.

I try to cut ball. Full on hits feel like bat is crushing in. When a cut hit is used it is almost like not hitting the ball, sorta weird.

I expect my Centenarian to last 3 or 4 years for $170.

It could be some may just need to change how they contact the ball to extend the life of their bats.

Lots of good bats, the only reason I went with the Centenarian was Mad Dog. I saw him at a tour this past weekend and thanked him.

Discussion: Talk regarding illegal bats

SSUSA Staff -- I looked at rules online and failed to see how a player could protest a possible illegal bat and what the protestor would have to put up in cash to do the protest.

Can the other team protest every bat and all bats could possibly be removed from the game? Or, does the protestor have to put up monies that will not be returned. Or, could every bat be protested with the umpire making each decision about bat being illegal.

Thank goodiness I have seen any team try to get other team's bats pulled from game.

Thanks, James

Gary, Just to say, my way is you have 4 fingers and a thumb. I hold a bat with my middle 2 fingers. My index and pinke basically sticking out sorta in a relaxed way.
My thumbs do exort some pressure, what this gives is a massive amount of bat control and bat speed at impact.
You can take a sholder high outside pitch and drive it to right field over the right fielders head or out of the park.
And, it gives incredible power to left.

Do not know if you identify with this, if not, try it in batting practice...OH, I do drop my left pinky off bat as I am a righty.

HJ in the short amount of time of bat/ball contact The Bat Flexes inward, this is when the energy is transfered from bat to ball, if you can not keep the bat speed high the bat will be robbed of its energy and the transfer will not occur in a high percentage. The bat must keep moving to transfer it's stored energy. A certain percent of energy is used in changing the direction the ball is traveling.

If you watch a bat in slow motion sometimes the bat actually stops moving foward when it strikes the ball. You can even see this with a golf club, especially an iron. Therefore it is important to maintain your swing speed thru the strike.

No End Load for me, they do not swing good for me.

I swing a 30oz balanced. Overall bat speed is good and good after striking the ball. I also have a 26 oz Demarini Classic Double Wall End Loaded, well, the 30oz Black Cent swings faster.

Discussion: Ultra II bats...may they rest in piece

SENIOR BATS --- My observation is most senior bats lasts Most Senior Players several years. Playing league and tournaments I see 15 or so Ultra II and a smathering of other senior bats in the dugout. And, have only seen 1 bat actually break during a game.

This is watching AA and AAA. Now a MAJOR or + player with the big swing, I DO AGREE that may be a very different story.

All the guys with 3-5 years on their bat do not bother to post any complaints, probably because they do not have any complaints.

Discussion: "Swing Makeover Series" Episode #4 now available on youtube. Connecting the Hips to the Hands for max power and consistency

bogie, if you watch golf Phil Mickelson really cranks the snap when his hands reach bottom and just befor reaching bottom of swing.
The average golfer does not even understand club head acceleration.
The softball bat gains speed and power if executed correctly, and, it is not easy. Confidence and knowledge of a swing is required.

Hey marklawr, wait until you get into your 70's Your feet will advance a couple more sizes by then. You need to keep your belly down though or it could be 3 sizes. Guess it is good my feet are now 11.5 instead of 9 as I can still see my toes.....

Discussion: Glove Off Season Care

Bob, never thaught about that, I rub the V in then rub a paper towel over glove to get excess off. OH, also I will use a hair dryer to sorta melt the V, forgot that in earlier post.

I would guess some weight is added. My glove is 14 or so years old and still in good shape, the ball seems to stick to the glove on near misses. I play outfield so sometimes that is very important on a last lunge catch.

Bruce hello.

When you decide to get the black Centenarian out please let us (me) know how it hits. I got one last year for tournament play and some league. 30oz balanced, swings easier than my 26oz Demarini Classic alum bat.

Ball comes off bat like the 1st legal Ultra II 30oz balanced bats, or so it seems.

Have a great day. C

Wayne 37 - Next time you should get a real Leather glove. Vaseline goes rightinto my Leather Rawlings Glove.

After treating glove put a ball in Pocket and wrap up with a towel, the pocket will be perfect.

You do this in the off season, not when you are on the playing field.

Time to treat gloves for upcoming season (where it is still cooler).

Get a big jar of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Rub it all over outside
of glove, then rub all inside of glove, fingers and thumb inside.
The Vaseline will go right into the leather and WILL NOT BE SLICK....

Keeps gloves soft inside helping your fingers not get crushed on a hot liner or thrown ball.

Note: Will not make gloves slick, they will resist sweat and protect the leather. Gloves will last a lot longer.

Yeah, hooverdog do not loan him your bat as he will use both hands to swing someone elses bat, you would probably get a 2 piece bat back.
