Discussion: AAA team from PA defeated by Major team

Hey dyson, you guys sorta got stiffed, however, the 70AAA are happy the 70 Major was moved down with you.

A good Major team will overcome the 5 runs they give up with no problem in the same age bracket, been there many times. And in most cased if the Major team is good the next lower age group as your 65 AAA will also need to be Very Good to beat the 70 Major.

If the Major was bumbed up for winning a couple local tournaments then those guys are on the average not very strong and will not dominate a lower age group.

Feel bad for your group someone that competes in another group was forced on you guys.

1st, I just do not hit up middle.

2nd, when I moved into the 5th infielder up the middle world of 70's. I found guys that hit up the middle changed to try and hit other openings. A player that can cover some ground and throws good can and has changed the game. I have seen so many double plays, line drive outs in 70's, just game changing.

Whitey, thanks.

I used a 28oz Big Cat in Vegas, and it felt like it weighed 10 pounds compared to a balanced. This is the first time to use this type of bat. I have never seen such performance before!

Discussion: Senior Bats and Temperature

bkb555, I have watched lots of guys use their Senior Bats in cold weather (when I would not) and not have any problems.

I think it really depends on how hard you swing the bat, if you do base hits your Senior Bat may last 5 or 6 years. If you can hit ball out of park a fair amount of time the bat could go at any time if used 20 or 30 times in cold weather.

Cold and composite are not compatible if you have a high swing speed.

Some guys can hit a composite forever and it will not even be broken in. While some bad boys can break a composite N in 25 swings.

Discussion: 70 AAA schedule Masters-Bitch time

Baseballbill, no offense meant, but, U do not have a clue on all the 70 teams I know and play against. We want the 5 games. 20 or so years when you get there you will also know.

70+ can still hit the ball out of the park. No big deal. Play 5 games is no challenge. Now 10 games in 4 days would be a little tiring.

Like Mr Garyheifner, "Always, my opinion."

Shadow Rock should never be used in a National Tournament.

I have no issues with a 3 day tournament if night games are eliminated period.... More mature eyes can not see the balls at night at Shadow Rock. Lights seems to be misaligned.
We were lucky as no one got hurt.

Outfields went from 5" high grass to bare dust. The 2 turf outfields are worse playing on then the dust/grass.

The tournament flowed ok, did not verify actual time of games but all seemed to be on schedule, so good job.

Only had one bad ump, in between games he really displayed his ego and during games did not know what was going on.

"ALL OTHER UMPIRES WERE REALLY GOOD." <-wish I could bold that

Rhino35, Stay away from Senior Softball, it is all bad, You could find yourself addicted to this Stuff and wind up tied up with this game to well over 85 years of age.

Forcing yourself into travel, expenses, friendships, and just plain fun.

Hey, hope you find that great bunch of guys to play Senior Ball with.

Discussion: What About The Miken Freak Black Senior?

Steve, the Freak Black is USSSA approved.
The freak is a good bat. It does not perform as good (IMO) as the Ultra II.

One league I play in (no age limits) only a USSSA bat can be used. Almost all players use one bat over and over, yeah, it is a Miken Freak. It will just not break but the distance is about 30 to 40 feet less than the Ultras.

Wind was not a factor. we were so happy when a breeze came up. It was completely hot.

The problem is I play 70+. You have to play close on most batters, so any little hit on the ground or a fly ball between the fielders went all the way to the fence seeming to pick up speed. If you are playing the younger ages you are back towards the fence so it is not so bad. When you run all out for 100 to 125 feet to the fence a few times in 102 degree it takes some out of you.

On the grass fields the ball stopped before it got to the outfielders most of the time.

Discussion: Miken Big Cat

Been using a 30oz balanced (for reference only).

Used a Miken 28oz Big Cat (endloaded)at Las Vegas this week.
WOW, what a bat, 1st time to hit with this bat. The balls used at SSUSA Worlds & LVSSA felt soft to the touch like a sponge ball. However, this bat did not care how the ball felt. This is truly a Hit & Sit bat.

Discussion: Shadow Rock & Hollywood Field Conditions

nickname36, just finished playing this week at Shadow Rock. So far in 20 years of Senior Softball I have not played on fields so BAD!

Bad bounces on infield, the 2 grass outfields have bare dirt and then 4 to 5 inch high grass, the 2 fields with turf on the outfield allows an easy hit ball to roll all the way to the fence if between fielders and a ball hit 75 or so feet high will bounce over the outfielders head. Any org that puts players at this complex has only MONEY for its interest. They do not care for Seniors that have spent lots of their own money to play in a big tournament.
2 of the fields do not have any shade period. The only real shade is a small area around the bathrooms and food stand.
The temp was 102 according to local tv.

Teams should wait to send their money in each year to see where their age bracket will play, if it is Shadow Rock it is best to bypass this tournament.

Discussion: LASIK, bifocals & contacts question

Tim, I use lined bifocals with zero issues.

I did have problems with progressive bifocals as the progression made the ball change course visually.

I normally play outfield but playing tournaments I am switched to 3rd base, again zero issues, I do not even know they are bifocals.

In far past I wore contacts and windy conditions when the dust storm happens on infield caused me major problems.

Hopes whatever you do works for U.

Swing, thanks for response.

My Senior Bat is a Combat Centenarian 30oz balanced.

I finally got a backup Jan 2015. It is a 2014 close out 27oz short barrel White Centenarian to use in batting practice. $79.15. The 2015 model has a different wrap.

Just curious, How many Senior Bats are in garages that have been replaced by a new and better Senior Bat that has lots of promises.

My Senior Bat is in its 4th year, first ball out of park was 21st swing in Dalton Ga. Numb of swings on bat is 6-700 MAX.
Only use is in tournaments.

This is a simple question, please do not go into What-If and 50+, etc.etc.

Bruce, I also am doing great. Hard to believe we do seem to slow down in our 70's. I had to limit my playing to 4 teams this year.

Looking fwd to Dalton and Las Vegas.

Bruce, Hope U R N great ball playing shape having fun.

I agree with your post (comment), I posted similar comment a couple years ago. There is a little stuff that does go on. The good thing so far is SSUSA's control has prevented this becoming a full Craigs List.
