| Sept. 16, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Bat Swing MPH Recent msg's have references about 95mph bat swing speed !!! ???? I do not and have not tested my bat swing speed and really wonder about MPH. My normal golf driver speed has been checked @ 106 mph. (Verified by more than 1 device.) Now, I would guess my bat mph is 65-75mph, just a guess on my part. When I hit a softball with a smooth swing the ball will clear a 300' fence with ease. If you have had radar test on your batswing mph or seen actual test results Please post the results as this is very interesting to me. Thanks for any info you have, James |
| Sept. 10, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Combat Ambush updates Some say the Ambush is a re-painted Centenarian, all I can say is -- IF SO it is a great bat.... I have about 90 swings on my Cent with about (sadly) 25 actual strikes in the sweet spot area. When you hit the Spot the ball goes as far as any bat I have used, the only thing is the sound, it does not sound like it is cracking, you can feel the trampoline but not much of a sound. If the Ambush is hotter then the Cent, I can not see how it is legal. Just my opinion. |

| Aug. 29, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Miken is NOT taking care of the problem Ultra IIs Armiho my friend, My team the "Rangers of North Texas" bought the grey Miken at end of last year as a team bat. I used it in Georgetown this year (2012) and there was nothing there, so, I bought a Combat Centenarian, and so far it is a great bat. The team Miken is nothing like the ones from 6 or 10 or whatever years ago, and, I do not understand why. This bat you will buy just may be a Centenarian with a little bigger sweat spot. Let me know. Will talk later. Crusher (James) |
| Aug. 26, 2012 crusher | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Who will be at Dalton, Sept. 6-9? Bruce, If possible would like to say Hello to you. I am #51 on the "Rangers of North Texas". We are a 70+ team. James |
| Aug. 20, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Review Omar, I can only guess that you did not played much softball in the 90's. I played on a team with guys from 20 to 40 years old and they hit balls much farther than any of these old men do with the current composits. Nobody special was on the team. Most bats in 94 (may be all) were single wall bats. And it could be that all the old guys that are banging the ball out of the park for record distance using composit bats all play on the east coast or west coast and I just do not see them. |
| Aug. 19, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Review My comment earlier about bats and softballs was written as it happened, it covered years from the early 70's to today. Someone talked about the Demarini Double Wall. I had a 97 model in 26oz. Ray Demarini said this was the best bat he ever built. Yes it was... With the balls then you could pick a pitch in your zone and hit it out. Then, they banned the bat for a while. What 2 or 3 of you can not understand is the overall balance between the bat and ball has stayed balanced over these 40 years. The ball has been adjusted down to match the composits. The bat statement was always tied to the ball. |
| Aug. 19, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Review Bats have stayed equal since the early 70's. The change has been the softball itself. 1st Prior to early 70's I did NOT hit ball out of a 300 or 330 foot park with a wood bat. THEN Alum bats with thick walls at 38oz came out, I started hitting balls out of park. Then 26oz to 30oz alum came out that were HOT, Hit balls out of park with these. So they dumbed down the ball. Then composits came out, hit balls out with composit, and what is going on, they are dumbing the ball down more. Therefore bats have stayed on a level with the lower performance ball since the early 70's. Now old people that fuss about the "game the way it was" must have played with rolledup socks and sticks directly off trees. or Slats. |
| Aug. 16, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Review jfsully --- are you an alterEGO of gary19 ????? If you are a Senior you have an ego if you are playing Senior Softball. Growup, there is nothing wrong with an EGO. Most of us want to live to 90+ Nothing like g19 that just wilts away. I have known hundreds of Senior Softball players and nearly all are great people that have a great time and give it all. I will not get an ambush, my Centenarian will still clear the 300 mark. Now my alum double wall will only get 299.5',but that is OK. If we still had the 47/525 the ol double wall Demarnie Classic would still go yard. C |
| Aug. 15, 2012 crusher | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: obscure rules? Bruce, probably if you do this you will be out. Played SSUSA forever, if you do not touch the base and hang on to the base and are tagged you are out. Hope all is well with you Bruce. James |
| Aug. 15, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Review Stig1, very good. I play in a day league that is 1990's. Last evening I went back to a night league where players 15+ years younger than me make up the league. Wow, what fun, and we got to use the Composit bats verses the alum bats. Fast guys with guns. Gets the ol engine wound up to a high rpm. Thanks for whoever does the R&D to give us bats that keep up with the wimpie balls. What fun. C |
| Aug. 15, 2012 crusher | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 5 game guarantee HEY TT, I agree with you, I have played in the SSUSA in AZ for all of it in the 60+ (10 years ago). We had 22 teams in our group. Played a lot of games. But it was 1 game less than we wanted, it was fun. The team that beat us won the championship. We had beat them in Dallas earlier in the year, when they beat us 16 to 15 they knew they would win the SSUSA National Championship. Played in 94 Industrial National Championship in Lakeland Fl. with the young one's. We went directly into the tournament. After airfair from Tulsa Ok and hotel bills we went 2 and out. Wow, I love the Senior Format best, AS WE get to play. |
| July 27, 2012 crusher | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What do you pay in your local leagues In Richardon Tx we pay $0. We umpire our own games. We do buy our shirts and hats. 24 games. This is a day league. Fields are prepared for night games so are in good shape. We get along great, (overall), no real fussing. Few calls are incorrect, almost the same as tournaments. James |
| July 12, 2012 crusher | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOURNAMENT WINNER AUTO MOVEUP Robo2 - you must live in a place where all teams are equal! HEY, I play on a AAA team that gladly moved up from AA after winning AA last year. Over 16 years I have played many Major teams from Florida to Califorina and played AAA off and on for all those years and THERE IS A GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "MAJOR" and AAA. You must live in the same world as Gary19 !!!!!!!!!!! |
| July 11, 2012 crusher | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Combining M & M+ the wood - AA is also a cash cow as you define cash cows. Major Plus is a waste land, if you get to that classification. This year I am 70+. Here in Texas, Oklahoma the M+ goes to a tour and do not have anyone to play at their level. Major is just about as bad. My AAA team is good, not great, we played a Major Scrap Iron team from Denver a few weeks ago, they beat us 32-10 or so in the seating round (headsup). In the final winning bracket we met again, this time we got 1 extra on defense. Result 32-10 or close to that. These guys only hit 1 wind helped homerun. However, they hit linedrive after linedrive. Bruce, hope something can be done for M+ and M. James |
| July 9, 2012 crusher | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOURNAMENT WINNER AUTO MOVEUP A case can be made to give a team 2 championships in say AA instead of moving them up to AAA for winning the national championship. My experience (about 16 years in senior softball) is that a team will put together a AAA team to win the AA and the other teams know this. Some teams will not go to the nationals and play for 2nd place if you allow the AAA team stay down at AA for 2 national championships. The team I play on this year won SPA championship in AA last year. The team is rated AAA this year (my 1st year with team) and I think it is a great rule. |
| July 4, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. CAPT D5, if a light bat works for you use it. You will find that will help your game performance. Good Luck. James |
| July 4, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. CAPT D5, as others have stated and I find very true for me is the more weight I can swing at the same speed the faster a ball will go because the bat speed stays higher after striking the ball. If your bat speed is much lower after striking the ball then the ball will not exit as fast or far. What has happened is the bat has absorbed the impact instead of transfering all the energy to the ball. |
| July 4, 2012 crusher | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. In past many references that a 26oz and 30oz composit bat are the same in wall thickness. The weight is adjusted by the rod in handle and endcap area. I just bought a new black combat CENT. 30oz balanced and it seems to swing with the same weight as my 26oz Demarini Classic, bat speed seems to be same. |
