| Aug. 10, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: California Championships Marv, Thanks to you and Donnie for a well run tourney. The staff, umpires and grounds crew made it a fun weekend. Reworking the fields after every two game was a nice touch. We were still on time for all of our games. Our schedule will have us back in Oct. and Dec. Thanks again, you're doing great. | May 9, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Reno Field Assignements vinniec, try the Gold Dust in CC. It's reasonable, clean and 5 minutes from the fields at Centennial park. Right off the freeway. Also, make a trip to Viginia City;make sure you have a DD. you'll have a great time. |
| May 5, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What Would George Hancock Think? Who is this "they" that is making you dress up like a hockey goalie and making the infield look like a miniature golf hole? You can play anywhere You want in this country, under any rules You want to play. Do you have a problem with freedom of choice? Do the young guys move too fast for you? Remember, the game started out with a sock and a stick. Times change, rules and rule makers change. It's not the worst thing in the world. I've never met a senior player with a fragile ego,but I know one who desperately wants someone, anyone to listen to him. |
| May 5, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Reno- 60 Major teams curve, are you playing Pendleton? Jack, glad you guys are coming to Reno. I think it's the second best tourney in the country. Worth the trip. John Sadler Double Edge |
| April 23, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: WHO IS THE FAVORITE AT 50 MAJOR WINTER NAT curveball and diehard you're priceless! Don't young people have Nationals also! We must stop this word from being used. While were at it we should stop people from disposing of their OWN income. |
| Feb. 17, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Teams Being Bumped Up I agree. Mid season bumps force you to start moving players to stay competitive in the higher division. Tough to win in Majors with AAA power. Being on the edge of being moved up is a consideration when it comes to entering tourneys. Moving teams during a season should be well thought out as to how well the team will do in the higher bracket. |
| Feb. 17, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOC Harry, Great to meet you and Ross. Congrats on your finish. Tri State is a great team with a classy bunch of guys, losing to them is no disgrace. I was glad you and the Bucs could combine along with the Sweet and Merchant teams. Dave did a great job getting us on the fields under tough circumstances. It was a great trip, playing against good, classy competition. Good luck to NVF this year,I'm on to 60s. |
| Feb. 7, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Thanks Carl Gustafson I guess I should look at the SSUSA home page before going to the message board. Carl's article is listed under the heading "How heart attacks transform life". Should have known SSUSA would be ahead of me on this subject. Take time to read the article. John |
| Feb. 7, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Thanks Carl Gustafson I received my Senior Softball newspaper yesterday. It contains a fine article by Carl about his heart attack last year. I would say it's a must read for all players and would urge SSUSA to post it somehow. I know Carl from the Top Gun Lionsheads Tourneys he use to host in San Diego. Thanks,Carl! You have done a service to all, and you now have made us aware there's more to playing softball than just winning and losing. God Bless you. Don't ever quit with your contributions, and I can't wait to see you playing softball again. John Sadler Double Edge 60s/Over the Edge 55s |
| Jan. 23, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOC East vs West game Harry, Where are you guys staying? We going to hit afternoons Wed. and Thurs. Brian Warner lives in Lakeland and is going to get back to me on good places to hit. I'll forward it to you. We're at the Hilton Garden Inn and a La Quinta Inn in Lakeland. Like I said on another post,we've got a great bunch of teams in the 55 golds. Ross had a good idea. John Sadler Over the Edge |

| Jan. 22, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Team Looking For TOC Players Dennis, Thanks. I've met some great guys since finding Senior ball. The wife and I enjoy the sport, the competition and the comaraderie. Most of all,the fun. They're going to miss you in Florida, all the pressure is on Chuck. Good luck this year, this is my last tourney with OTE. I've gone to 60s with Double Edge. See you on the fields. John |
| Jan. 22, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Military MOS Softball6, The site is Cacti 35th Infantry. There is also a link to the 4th Division and the 25th Tropical Lightening Division. We have guys from the 2/9th Arty plus support guys like the helo pilots. Our unit is still ative and deployed in Afganistan. So we support our younger guys, and fly in a couple of actives for the weekend. Some are on their third and fouth deployments. Keep them in your prayers. You might be able to find some info on the 3/12th on those sites. John |
| Jan. 21, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Who is hitting BP in Florida on the weekends? Brian, Is there a place to hit in Lakeland during the day? We're coming in for TOC and would like to find a place to hit in the afternoons Feb 9-11 without the parks and rec hassles. Email is on my info page. John |
| Jan. 21, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Team Looking For TOC Players db14,sorry, but I have to ask these experts. Is it OK to replace injured players? Believe or not, SSUSA challenges every roster change. We lost two players to knees and one who has played with us for the last two years, but didn't play in that qualifier. What do you do? Not go? Forget that! We petitioned for two players from the same level. We're not adding Major+ guys. I'm still trying to figure out the problem with what time of year this special tourney should be played? Who cares. Are you going? Doug, I hope you get your guys. John |
| Jan. 21, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: One of the umpires at Menifee Ken, Go to Donny's website at SCSSA. They have some kind of golf outing the Friday before Temecula. The umps in Menifee did a fine job. Les is one of the best. John |
| Jan. 21, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Military MOS 2/35th Inf,4th Div. 68/69-o5b. We have a reunion every year, usually draws 400 to 500 people. Going to Pittsburgh this year. It's a bond that never dies. Welcome home. |
| Jan. 20, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Just Curious! John, Went to the same school 68/69. Are you guys playing in Anny on the 31st? southpaw, the league/tourney options in SoCal are endless. You can play somewhere everyday of the week if you want to deal the traffic. Retired this year from the PO. John |
| Jan. 20, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Team Looking For TOC Players Doug, Ditto what birdie says. Looking forward to seeing you guys in Fla. Too bad Monta can't make it,hope Chuck and Dennis are coming. Maybe we'll play a classic like that Saturday night in Vegas. Birdie, what a field for the 55 Gold! Have played against half of those teams, all class and great competitors. Looking forward to meeting you and your team. Good luck and safe passage. John Sadler |
| Jan. 20, 2010 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Masks or Helmets Once an organization picks a piece of equipment as the standard, they now open themselves for legal problems. No organization would do this unless they forced into it. The equipment is optional.I've played two tourneys since both the old rule and the new rule have been implemented. I think the new rule solves the problem. Pitchers can pitch, hitters can hit. What's wrong with that? Joe,what does credibility have to do with wearing a helmet? Andy,No mask is necessary, your face scares hitters. It would mess up your hair! John Sadler Double Edge |
