John,
Went to the same school 68/69.
Are you guys playing in Anny on the 31st?
southpaw, the league/tourney options in SoCal are endless. You can play somewhere everyday of the week if you want to deal the traffic. Retired this
year from the PO.

Doug, Ditto what birdie says. Looking
forward to seeing you guys in Fla.
Too bad Monta can't make it,hope Chuck
and Dennis are coming. Maybe we'll play a classic like that Saturday night in Vegas.
Birdie, what a field for the 55 Gold!
Have played against half of those teams, all class and great competitors. Looking forward to meeting you and your team. Good luck and safe passage.

Discussion: Masks or Helmets

Once an organization picks a piece of equipment as the standard, they now open themselves for legal problems. No
organization would do this unless they
forced into it. The equipment is optional.I've played two tourneys since
both the old rule and the new rule have been implemented. I think the new rule solves the problem. Pitchers can pitch, hitters can hit. What's wrong with that?
Joe,what does credibility have to do with wearing a helmet?
Andy,No mask is necessary, your face scares hitters. It would mess up your
hair!

I wear both the helmet and shinguards. It's an option. If the ump says your gear doesn't measure up then sign the waiver. What does SSUSA owe any of you? They provide a service. Their tourneys, their rules. I have not
noticed any difference in my play with
or without equipment. I prefer to protect myself. I have never seen any pitcher complain on this board about
who hits the middle, only hitters complain about not being able to hit the middle. Give it a rest,if you're not comfortable on the mound don't pitch. If you don't like the SSUSA rules, don't play in their tourneys. It takes balls to stand out there, doesn't matter what bat/ball combo.

Ron,
I think that was the only time ppr was called all weekend. That ump made a mistake. Every other blue I talked to said it had to be intentional.
Good to see you guys again, good luck this year.
Big John, congrats on the win.

birdie,
55 AAA played at Diamondplex in Winter Haven last year. We were told
that we would probably be in Lakeland.
We booked a Hilton Garden Inn($80/90).
The hotels in Fla. seem to want to work with you a little better than the west coast. The tourney's a blast, good
teams/friendly competition. See you there.

Neither Beanpole(the pitcher),Stumpy(SS),Umpire,1b,manager,scorekeeper
realized until after the next hitter
what had happened. Doker is right, someone should have noticed. It
was a foggy night in more ways than one. On the other hand, the SSUSA method
of cr's works the best. Wait until the
cr takes the base before play resumes.

Courtesy runners are allowed at all
levels, young and old. I don't think you play. You don't care about winning,
this is the only game for you. Get out,
take a walk,enjoy life.

Courtesy runners are allowed at all
levels, young and old. Anybody who wants
an injured player to run is a sadist.
Who cares? It's about participation,
having fun,getting some exercise. I
can understand the ball and bat discussions, but courtesy runners?
It's only a game and MLB isn't scouting you.

Omar- You're right.
Manassas and Neck- I use a smaller 12/13 year old shinguards with the pad above the knee cut off. No loss of quick. Soccer shins and pads don't cut it.
Andy, you will never be just a player.
You bring more to the table than that.
Icing softballs? Anyone told E and D?

Omar,
Interesting you bought up the screen.
The game in Vegas I was referring to, the sun was directly in the eyes of the pitcher. The TD would have let us use the screen, but both pitchers had to agree. I wanted it, the other guy
didn't. Went to my bag got my helmet.
There are TD's who hear the concerns
of the players and the gentleman from
BRL(Russ?) did a great job at the 55
fields. Vegas could solve the problem
with sun screens behind the backstops at Lorenzi. John

As a hockey goalie pitcher I love the bats ,balls and the challenge of the middle. Hit it where you want,I'll make my best effort to get you out.
However, my shinguards protected my leg from being broken last month in
Foutain Valley(ball skipped off front
rubber, hit dead on the shin). My helmet
gave me the protection I needed in a sun game in Vegas. Might look silly, but
I never hear anyone discussing the merits of wearing a cup. Or is that too much protection? See you guys in Phoenix.

Discussion: Deleteing The PPR Rule

When is the 1st Dirty Rules Tournament?
Anyone so critical of senior softball
should be able to throw a 1st Class
Tourney all would want to attend. I'll
be there for no time limits, unlimited
runs,collisions,playing the game Ol'
Ty Cobb would have played. Can I wear my steel cleats? Would love to spike some sonbitch! I'm sure we'll accommodate Joe with unlimited HR's
with a wooden bat. We are going to use wood, right? Dirty,come out and play;
you might find out that there is a lot to be said for senior ball and the
people who work so hard to put us on the field. Whether it be NorCal,SSUSA
Spa, whatever. I'll save a spot on our roster at Rock n' Reno for you. Life's
too short,enjoy. Oh,I pitch and don't
like the PPR. This stuff gets old.
