Discussion: One pitch

In Cinncinati they have a USSSA one pitch world tournament(just a name Gary19 not really the whole world) every Sept. Three game round robin on Sat seeded into a single elimination tournament on Sun. It takes about 45 min to play a game. A great way to get a lot of games in a shorter period of time.

Discussion: What we got for winning National Championship

The winner of the World received rings and second place received silver metals. Those are fair awards for the world tournament. My biggest complaint is a couple of other national tournaments where awards do not reflect what was won. SSUSA what is your response to giving generic awards in your national tournaments?

Discussion: What we got for winning National Championship

That has always been SSUSA policy to have very little awards but have been getting worse. They take little pride when giving awards. They depend on Miken to supply cheap Chinese products. They know only the top couple of teams experience the awards while the rest of the teams go home. Giving generic arwards for so called national championships is not only pure greed but kinda rubbing your nose in it. It's obivious the people deciding who gets the awards put no thought into what they were doing. It appears it was all about what we could get for free no matter how cheap. But they were quick to give out the ring option forms. I wonder if they make a kickback on prchased rings. I don't play the game for awards. I play because I love the competition, hanging out with the guys, and the thrill of victory but I do see what is going on and I am not fooled by the greed.

If they were the same bags that we received for winning the SSUSA Northern they were a joke. Flimsy nylon back pack bags with nothing on them about about being the northern champions. The same thing for winning the USA championship game in Las Vegas. We received the SSUSA polo shirt also with nothing on it about winning the USA championship. At least if you are going to call something a national tournament and charge a premium entry fee you should at least have the awards reflect what you won rather than a generic shirt or bag. But I do have a couple of nice ring option order forms that reflect what was won.

Discussion: Seeding

You are right, for example in the 60AAA where there were 38 teams seeding games did not mean a thing. I would like to see the Eastern and Western champions game not only determine the USA Champion but also be for the number 1 and 2 seeds. It's not fair to those to teams to play a seeding game against each other.

Discussion: Ambush Review

Ever since the game of softball/baseball was invented players were always looking for a better bat, better glove, better ball. That's the way it will always be. It's the American way to make something better and thats what the producers of sports equipment do. Change happens and there is nothing you can do about it. We have never gone backwards when it comes to bats from wood to metal to composite. I have played in seven senior tournaments and have not heard anyone complain abouts the senior bats and in America majority rules.

Discussion: 5 game guarantee

The double elimination three game guarantee makes it hard on teams that lose the first and second games and in senior ball playing more games in the tournament is a disadvantage especially in the heat. Also tournament directors try to keep as many teams around for as long as they can.

Discussion: What 50 teams are playing in Northern Championship in Lansing?

SSUSA usually starts Friday games around 9:00am but come back on Sat and Sun at 8:00 but this is determined by amount of teams and number of fields.

You can go to the tournament page and click on the Northern Championship and get a list of the teams that are playing broken down into age groups but not divisions. Most brackets if they have enough will play a two game seeding games into a double elimination three game guarantee tournament. Most teams will start on friday and most will play on sunday.

Discussion: THE NEED FOR SEVEN INNINGS

Gary19 if you choose to not patronize senior softball why do you choose to throw you weight around on this board. Nobody cares about your opinions anymore. We know what you stand for. Here is your clue nothing you say will change a thing in senior softball because you have no crediblity. I have played six senior tournaments and talked to hundreds of ball players and everyone enjoys using senior bats and good balls. All the other stuff (rules, formats, fields) you just have to adjust to. But whatever it is when you get on the field it is the same for both teams and you still have to score more runs than the other team to win.

NSA and USSSA both use the flip flop rule. It was actually used in young ball first and the seniors are just now picking it up. As far as the three game guarantee double elimination tournament all that does is save the director a couple of round robin games but adds extra back to back games for the first couple of teams that get in the losers brackett. Corky I'll bet the team that eeked out the win with two losses din't go very far after that.

I don't bowl and don't understand the comparison. They have been charging gate admission at Midwest for 20 years. Just like the bats and balls most players do not care what they swing or what they swing at. Just a few on this board think it's a big deal. Yhey just want to play ball. If you don't play don't gripe.

Discussion: O.K., WHO ARE THE MOST SOLID AA TEAMS AND ARE YOU HEADED TO DALTON THIS THURSDAY? (especially 60 AA)

This whole Doc Martens episode stinks. They are rerated two weeks before the tournament and then rip through the AA. They should have been placed in the AAA division after the round robin. The other teams were not happy with accusations of sandbagging by Doc Martens. If that is true the team should be banned. Everyone knew this team didn't belong in AA except Ridge.

I see in SSUSA Doc Martens is still AAA. What were the results for the SSUSA tournaments they played this year. First I thought you had to have the results of three tournaments to appeal.

Discussion: Most Unusual, outlandish, Funny, etc. Softball story

I was playing in a game in Parchman Prison in Mississippi a few years back. We were playing a prison team with prisoners for umpires. I hit a line shot down the left field line that hit the line with powder flying up. I know I have a double when I hear the umpire yell foul ball. I came back and said didn't you see the chalk fly up. He replied "The ball hit the foul side of the line". I had no answer just got back in the box to hit.

Early rain changed 1st round tournament games to 1-1, 5 inn games. Afternoon rains turns Sunday games into one pitch. Over 50 games to be played in 12 tournaments. Hope we don't get anymore rain.

Discussion: New Years Wish

Here is my new years's wish for 2010 for senior softball. No more tournaments with two or three teams in the division. The biggest problem with senior softball is there are too many tournaments and not enough teams going to them. I don't think any team wants to travel and spent hundreds of dollars for an overpriced tournament with one or two other teams. This is greed plain and simple and we as players let them get away with it. Senior players should be able to determine the direction of senior softball and not someone who comes up with some alphabet association and has a so called world tournament. Senior softball has passed its peak. There are not the large number of new fiftys coming into the game and that number will continue to decline. Pick your tournaments carefully and make tournament directors keep you informed on how many teams are in the tournament. Don't waste your money just to get some games in. If we don't take control we will continue to be used.
