Discussion: What's the best bat for open tournaments?

i have played senior softball for about 13-14 yrs. i have fallen for the hype on new bats every year. i have bought a few based on the hype, and they are decent bats for senior softball. however, i started with the ultra 2 when it first came out, and have noticed that most new bats are always compared to the ultra 2.

the problem with the ultra 2 is the durability issue. i have broken 10-12 since i have been playing, eventually it has soaked in that once you feel the ultra 2 is broken in, you only used it during tournaments.

i have approx 10-13 bats hanging in the garage that i use ocassionally, IE: YELLOW COMBAT, AMBUSH, MIKEN 2 PIECE BALANCED, CENTENARIAN, REEBOK BALANCED, PLUS A FEW MISC OLD BATS.
while these are all good bats, they do not have the consistency of the ultra 2 .

i dont have the greatest eye for hitting the ball, most good hitters say , " hit the bottom part of the ball to create the spin ". my eyesight is not that good anymore, i just want to make good contact and see what happens.

my .02c ( good or bad ! )

MAD DOG- with the thick bushy beard you have, you dont need a face mask. it's tough enough to deflect a 100 mph come-backer.....

hi bob, hope you had a merry xmas with family and friends. see ya down the road.

swing for the fences : i will be playing in an ASA league next year. i was invited to play with a team today 8/29, also ASA, the longest shot hit by both teams was maybe 200ft, 99% of the other hits were not over 100 ft. very disapointed with the ASA bats avail.

what was the ASA bat used that was made for use with mushy balls that you saw ??

appreciate your response ! thanks!

Discussion: another senior ailment : TOE NAIL FUNGUS !

stick8 : on the yahoo website , search : " corn meal for toe nail fungus "

you will get various websites that offer their input about corn meal for this problem.

there is one website that mentions using " HORTICULTURAL CORN MEAL ", which i think means that it's grounded up. lawn people use this to control or get rid of fungus problems in lawns. WHY NOT IN TOE NAILS ?

GOOD LUCK !

Discussion: another senior ailment : TOE NAIL FUNGUS !

ran across this article on a website: if it works, could be a cheap remedy :

Use Cornmeal to Keep Off Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus or Onychomycosis can be bit difficult thing to treat. It is usually seen in discoloration, flakiness and thickening of the nail. This fungus is nasty, discomforting and most of all stubborn, often opposing various sorts of cure and lasting for many years. While this condition generally propagates in the big toenail.

A toenail fungus infection ends when fungi, which is scientifically known as dermatophytes gets placed into the nail through a small aperture. The fungus grows itself rapidly in a warm, humid and moist environment, like damp socks or shoes. The reason is that toenails donít have a good supply of blood as well as oxygen. It is not easy for the immune system on its own to free the body of the infection.

As the symptoms, white or yellow spot beneath the tip of the toenail is frequently the first signal of toenail fungus. The toenail becomes thicken and discolored with yellow, white and brown patches. However, there are lots of home remedies and suggestions for the treatment of toenail fungus. In which, you can make use cornmeal for toenail fungus.

Covering your feet in cornmeal cures the fungal infection or you can use cornmeal by soaking your feet. People with toenail fungus also spread on mixture of cornmeal and water all over the infected toes and nails. Cornmeal is a natural home remedy; microorganisms in cornmeal kill off the fungus by eating them all. In order to use try this remedy for toenail fungus, put cornmeal in the pan and add just enough lukewarm water to cover it. Soak your feet for about 30 minutes for one hour once per week.

think i will give it a shot.

Discussion: another senior ailment : TOE NAIL FUNGUS !

I wonder how many guys had/have this problem. how did you clear it up, and did it go away completely or did it come back ?

i had both toe nails removed a few years ago and shortly there after, the problem came back.

another time i took pills and eventually cleared up the problem, but again a few month later, it came back.

weird, but it only affects the toes.

i have tried : tea tree oil, white vinegar, off the shelf stuff, but alas, no help.

i havent tried it yet, but i read someplace that soaking your feet with horicultural corn meal and water once a week might do the trick.

any comments ??? thanks !

Discussion: Plantar Fasciitis

CRUSHER- i am still hobbling around with this irritating problem. i am still playing nite league and dayball, but am not running at full speed. i have put in some arch supports and trying to layoff as much as necessary.

i will be ready for dalton, and i will be in my regular position. ( IBUPROFEN 800MG )

TOO BAD OUR TEAM IS NOT GOING TO LAS VEGAS. i will try to latch on with a 70's team
if possible or maybe a 65 team.

as far as dalton, the flight out of dfw to atlanta is about 167.00 R/T. i cant see driving 11-12 hrs each way.

will see you out there !

VALGUS 6- Your comment below:

" The single most aggravating factor in developing plantar fasciitis is tightness of the calf muscles," .

i did not correlate the possibility that my planters problem could be a factor in my calf/ shin area being swollen.

thinking back now , the planter problem and swelling came approx the same time. this was about 6-8 weeks ago.

i will make an appt to go see a podiatrist, my REGULAR DOCTOR did not seem too concerned about the swelling on my leg. i had a varicose operation done about 35 yrs ago, and my doctor blamed that operation as to a possibility of the leg swelling due to lack of circulation.

thanks for your expert input.
