There was a SSUSA rule allowing this to happen in 2016. The rule was repealed after the 2016 season & not allowed in 2017 or after. The game "may" be delayed if the sun is in the pitchers eyes at the discretion of the TD.

Ms Dee,

You were moved to those fields to "avoid" the late night games you complained about. Sorry but TENTATIVE" MEANS JUST THAT - CAN/MAY BE CHANGED!
I book rooms for my team & take my chances. Sometimes we have had to travel from Boulder Station to Desert Breeze which is by far the longest drive. You adjust so that you are there before your scheduled game time! And guess what, you still get to play!!! And by the way there are places eat/get stuff close to those fields. Yes nearer to Shadow than Hollywood, but not far.
Hope you can put this behind you & enjoy being able to play softball. I know at 70+, I do!!
My truck was gone through while at BLD last week, I might have left it open, but someone was going through looking for things!

GOOD LUCK!

Discussion: Carrying bat

While playing in St George a couple of years ago one of our players was called out for carrying the bat to 1st base! I tried to find out why/rule etc, but to no avail! But he wasn't thrown out or banned from playing in St George!
By the way, the umpire was one of SSUSA's umpires!!
Oh well! LOL!!

Discussion: Pitchers Chest Protection

I just finished my league game wearing the chest protector. It didn't bother me at all, pitching or fielding. As for batting I was 3/4 & hit the ball hard. Didn't notice the vest at all even while running the bases. Oh, we won 21-10.
Did not get hit by any balls, which is ok by me!! I'm sure that test will come someday.

More to follow next week in Vegas, but for now it's everything DOWNS said it was!

Thanks,

Chief

DOWNS & JETHRO...Received it today & have tried it on & have been swinging a bat. I am going to wear it tonight in my local league game & see how it goes. As I said above, I found it on Amazon, ordered it on Apr 10 & received it today.

Jim, thanks for your input & Ed says hi & thanks for the + comments.. We play against each other tonight!!

More to follow,

Jim, I found the same protector on Amazon for the same price. It will be delivered on Wed. Ed Daniels is my driving/room mate most of the time. ISt Geo last year. R u going to Vegas next week? I'll be sure to say hi for you.

I spend a lot of time in the SeaTac area, Burien, as my wife is from Tacoma.

Thanks for the info & I'll let you know how it goes.

Take care,

Chief

Jim, are you the Jim Downs from Fresno? If you are I play with several players who used to play fast pitch with you. Never played fast pitch but umpired many games at Holmes & Romain. I manage/play the Game On 70M team. Chief

Discussion: Pitchers Chest Protection

I have seen many pitchers using a form of chest protection. Any thoughts on which may be the best. I am a fairly large "target", 6'2, 215 & am thinking about getting some sort of protection. I also TD at times & might need it sometime! LOL
I would like to hear from others who use chest protection, what you think & where to get something.
Thanks

#19 - What position do you play? If you don't pitch, may I suggest you get on the mound & see how you like it! If you are a pitcher, then good for you.

Discussion: Sun rule

As a pitcher I can relate to the sun rule & the sometime benefit of delaying the game to protect the pitcher.
I also know that sometimes I make a pitch & know it is coming back at me. No problem with that.
However, when you have a M+ team playing a AAA team & coming up the middle 9 times in 5 innings, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT! I was hit 5 times & not one word from the hitters! It was a seeding game in St George & they were beating us by 10+ runs. They said because we were not playing a rover, "the middle was open"! If they wanted batting practice, go somewhere else!

If that is "crying", so be it!

It happened this past weekend at BLD & it was called correctly by the umpire & the Field Director. Batter was called out for stepping out of the box & hit it over the fence, batter out, HR added to teams total.
