| May 3, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How can SSUSA possibly reclassify an established Major+ team Big Mike: Ruth 60's did get moved up to M+ James |
| March 30, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SSUSA April Opener, Regional Athletic Complex, Lacey WA April 13-14 Shane: Looks like a strong field and we will need to play up or down but it will be fun and competitive. Will be interesting to see how all the teams do that were moved up. Thanks for organizing and running this tourney. James |
| March 22, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What is 400 feet.... Good question Tim: I do believe hitting a ball 400' has a lot to do with conditions. We played the other night in 40 degree temp with a hard wind blowing out and balls were flying on our field. I have never hit a ball 400' but that night hit one that landed in a spot I have never touched. I get to watch the NW legends 50 M+ team play in our local tourneys and they hit quite a few in the 400' range. Thanks: James |
| March 13, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Bats Discussion: Other bats I have a first generation Worth Jeff Hall Maham (red) That has at least 1000 hits on it and is still going strong and when you hit the sweet spot is nearly as hot as any senior bat I have ever hit. Two of the longest balls i have ever hit were with this bat. If you can find one I highly recommend them. Thanks: James |
| March 8, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Bat/ball combos of yesteryear 1973, We used the day/night Dudly and they were soft and out of round by the 4th inning. I believe that was right about the time the Bombat arrived on the scene. The Mag Bat was a little later but it was a dud. Somebody came out with a bat that had stripes that was not bad if you could find the sweet spot. In the late 70's some of our big hitters used a bat that looked like a fungo that I believe we call the Thumper. It was a load to swing. When the balls took a big dump in the late 70's I stopped playing with the big boys because at 150lbs I just could not hit that ball anywhere. When the worth Blue and red dots came out I started playing with the better teams again. Thanks: James |
| March 8, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Bats Discussion: Cold Weather Clarification: Bats or Balls? My question is do bat warmers benefit performance or durabuility? Or neither? Thanks: James |
| March 8, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Bats Discussion: New Miken 2 piece End Load (supermax) I know guys who have been hitting these bats in cooler weather and I have not heard of one breaking. |
| March 7, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Bats Discussion: New Miken 2 piece End Load (supermax) Hi Alan: did you get a chance to test this bat? A few guys I know have the 2 piece Miken's and they are very pleased with the performance and durabuility. Thanks: James |
| March 1, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: WHAT IS A MAJOR PLUS PLAYER? I have no idea what a M+ player really is but this year I am fortunate to be one. At 60 I figure it is a good chance to see how I really measure up. The only negative I see is having the M+ tag that I hope they will do away with some day. As for Joe, I met him on this board a few years back and he went out of his way to help me get a USSSA bat. A few years later I met him in person in Portland Oregon. Two years ago My Son went with me to the Northwest Nationals in SAC and Joe spent an hour of his time talking to my Boy about hitting. I have yet to see him play but he enjoys this game as much as any person I have ever met. I don't always agree with his views but we all have our own opinion. He is good for senior softball. Thank You: James |
| Feb. 25, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Bats southernson: Where did you see all the altered bats and how did you know they were doctored? I thought that had been cleaned up in the senior game. Thank You: James |
| Feb. 12, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Best infielders-in your opinion Best SS in 60's is the guy from the Ruth team that won the Major division last year in Vegas. Thanks: James |
| Feb. 11, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Who is the team to beat this year? Who do you guys pick in 60's M+ Thanks: James |
| Jan. 11, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 60's M+ Hi All: Does anybody remember who finished 1-5 at the worlds in Vegas in 60's Major plus? Thanks: James |
| Jan. 9, 2013 JamesLG | Topic: Bats Discussion: 2 Piece Bats How did the two piece Miken perform compared to the black U2? I heard the bat does have a great feel but have not heard how they perform. Thank You: James |
| Dec. 31, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: survey The 1-1 count I am not a fan of but it would speed the game up. The lack of hustle getting on and off the field plus the abundance of courtesy runners is a bigger problem. Courtesy runners are great but in many cases they take far to long to make the change. | Dec. 28, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Best leadoff hitter Danny Luhtalla is the best ever in the northwest. Played against him in the 70's and on the same team with him as a senior and he is as tough of an out as you will ever see. He can also hit for power if he wants but his main goal is to get on base. He was also the best left fielder in this area for many years. Thanks: James |
| Dec. 24, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Miken Ultra 2 piece hi Folks: Noe that this bat has been out for a while and some of you may have had a chance to hit it, i would like to know how it performs. I have been a long time black U2 user and I am hoping the two piece is as good but a little more durable. I watched a few reviews on it but every time you see a review the guy hitting is a huge guy who could hit a ball 300+' with about any bat he picks up. Thanks and Merry Christmas and a healthy 2013 to everybody. James |
| Dec. 7, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Miniscus surgery Hi Mario: I had two tears clipped 2+ years ago and played a tournament 17 days after the surgery. I did not have much swelling so that probably helped. I believe your body will let you know when you are ready. Crutches really are not needed because you will be walking the next day. Good luck: James |
| Dec. 4, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes I like the rules but would have liked to see AAA HR's as 3 and 1up. The 70' bases are great. Thanks: James |
| Nov. 19, 2012 JamesLG | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Thoughts for the upcoming SSUSA Rules Committee meeting! I believe at this meeting the Major+ tag on a player must be dealt with. A player should not be punished or tagged for being talented. Quite a few AAA players could and should be playing M+ but choose not to because of the long term effect of the M+ tag. After hitting the "Rock" ball in 95deg heat in Vegas we should make that the standard. Thanks: James |
