Discussion: VEGAS a month ago vs Reno this weekend

Ok, The scores for Vegas from April are now entered in hand written form. The scores are still missing from the Spring Nationals on May 1st and the scores from the Atlantic Coast Championships on May 14th. Patience, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Thank you Dave for the clarification. However if a team goes 0-2 in its first two games, then it becomes triple elimination, which in effect is still a 3GG.

Staff,
You keep referring to "A strong majority of teams believe that the ‘real’ tournament begins only when the elimination bracket begins, regardless of its structure. The 2RR/3GG format gets teams into the brackets earlier and keeps them there longer, meeting that majority belief while still complying with the five game guarantee offered in SSUSA events." This poll by your own admission was taken in 2006 by teams or individuals who may not even be around anymore.
How about getting some current information by current teams and players on tournament format desires with a new poll?

Do you really believe that the 3GG isn't triple elimination? If you aren't officially eliminated from the tournament until you lose three games, it's triple elimination. Simply can't be called any other thing. Yes you are gauranteed three games, but it's still triple elimination.

Yes Tim, You are correct. Decisions are made and supported using rules and guidelines that are vague in nature that allow for stretching them to support the decisions.

Swing,
Well said. Metal bats with good balls like we used to use go just as far as what we play with today.

Who cares what USSSA has been doing since the 80's. Does that make it rright? And we didn't do it back in the 80's by the way when I played. Umpires don't get paid by the hour, they get paid by the game. Those that are unwilling to accept the game fee, don't hire them. What you got now are many guys that do it strickly for the money and many times it shows.

Bruce, I couldn't agree with you more. We as players absolutely shouldn't be looking for ways to shorten or quicken up games. For the distance we travel, the time we invest and the money we spend, We should see all games go the distance. Period. Times limits should be eliminated or expanded. Period. I copied below some info from previous posts about 1-1 versus 0-0. Just some food for thought. Your also right about playing later in the day. TD's have no problem with the early 8AM games, by why don't we play later in the day? Great question.

Max Pitches per batter:

#1 Ball 2
#2 Strike 2
#3 Ball 3
#4 The fowl to give per survey
#5 Last possible pitch

With a 1-1 starting count I will be swinging on #1 or #2 pitch in the above serino

4-3-max pitches per batter.

#1-Ball
#2-Ball
#3-Strike
#4-Strike
#5-Ball
#6-Last possible pitch

In this scenario most batters will be swinging at 2-1 pitch.

Difference is one pitch and when people talk it is like EVERY batter goes to 3-2, and that is not true. If your pitcher throws strikes, the batter is usually swinging by the second pitch.

What does a 1 and 1 count have to do with unlimited runs and unlimited home runs?

Make the time limits longer or get rid of them.

With only 22 teams, it should be no problem to make sure all games are played out to the full 7 innings. No need to cut any game short so the teams will get their time and monies worth. How much you wanna bet that it doesn't happen?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't get the survey. With the poor response rate, I'd be willing to bet there are many more who didn't get it either. All my stuff is current and if your a member of this message board you need a current email address to get in.
I also had no trouble reciving the SPA survey.

Where do I find this survey? I would gladly respond if I knew where to or was invited to do so.

John,
How sad it is, to have to be worried about being banned for mentioning another web site as a source of information for senior softball players to go to. What could they possibly be afraid of. The site you are talking about will get better as more people find out about it. Happy New Year.

Discussion: Survey

Hey Bill,
If apparently many/most were unaware that SSUSA sent out a letter 3-4 weeks before the rules meeting, then apparently they didn't do a very good job of sending it out nor did they include the total membership. If SPA can do it, there's no reason they all can't do it. If associations are really concerned about the players or customers input, they should be willing to provide the opportunity to all for input. In todays world of social media and technolgy, there's really no excuse not to. What else do we pay our yearly dues for?

Bogey,
Great video. I've made sure I have shared it with all my team mates. The phrase of "a picture is worth a thousand words" makes it much easier to explain to them. Thanks.

Discussion: Thoughts for the upcoming SSUSA Rules Committee meeting!

Yo Mark,
I don't wonder at all why Tennesee doesn't have several teams. In fact Tennesee ranks 17th in U.S. population. They don't have any excuses either. So, what's your point?
