I have one brand new still-in-the-wrapper 28oz & one 28oz nearly new with 20-30 BP swings on it. $175 for the new one & $135 for the used one.

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN UTAH

Just for the record, MTC 50's did not find out we were bracketed with a 40's team until the week before the tourney.
We assumed SSUSA would apply the Equalizer Rule at that time, because we had always done so all year. Since we had airline tix & the hotel already paid for we decided to go. When we asked SSUSA on the Friday before if the equalizer rule would be applied we were told the TD would decide at the tournament, after watching the seeding games. One of the OGR players told us on Friday that they were told by the TD they would be giving us the equalizer, so I asked again after the seeding games what the deal was. "go ask the umpire-in-chief" I was told. So I did, he didn't seem to know that it was his decision but he said we were to play straight up. That's the way it happened & I still think it was total BS...
As for the umping, everybody has their own take, not surprising there. We think the OGR team is a great team, just wanted an even competition... And Terry H won't return my calls... Go figure... I'm done..

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN UTAH

Well, I have a different take on the Western Natls. in SLC but just as negative. We (MTC 50's)played at the Valley Park Softball Complex in Taylorsville & the fields were good with excellent prep work done between games. Fences were plenty deep (320?)so that was no problem. Umps worked hard, didn't get every call right, but they were honest anyway! Games were on time for the most part, weather turned out great this year! 70s & 80s Saturday & Sunday, no heat stress like last year. So what's the problem? Unfair competition! I played against guys that were 10-16 years older than me & some of my mates!
My problem was my team playing against a great 40+ team (OGR) and no equalizer was given to us. Nobody could even give me an explanation as to why either! This 40+ team finished 2nd in the Worlds in 2008 and won the 2009 Spring Worlds!! But we were supposed to compete on an even playing field?! Why? We were arbitrarily moved to Major Plus this year despite having no big tournament wins in 2008. We had to give the Ruth 55's the equalizer in Portland, no questions asked! But do we get the same consideration from SSUSA when it's our turn? No way... We did beat the kids the first game & took them to extra innings in the first Championship game before losing by one & then lost the 2nd Champ game by 4... Those 5 runs from an equalizer would have been nice... Total BS that we were put in this situation! Those 40+ guys can run like, well, 40 yr olds! Wore our outfield out trying to keep them from the extra base... Anyway, that's my beef. Sorry it's such a long post, but this was a total screw-up from the chiefs at SSUSA. And the 2nd place awards... A SSUSA hat? Poor taste... Peace out... PS: OGR you guys are an excellent team but quit bitching at the umps from start to finish, especially when you're playing even up against your elders...!

Discussion: SALT LAKE

It looks like SLC is not a good spot for the Western Nationals as there has been a poor turnout 2 years in a row compared to what it was in Reno... Maybe the lousy economy makes it worse this year but last year wasn't a big field either...

It is very disappointing to be the only 50 M+ team entered!! I am wondering how they will try to bracket this mess...!

I agree that Windy City was as good a Major team as there was in '07. Seems like they were right where they belonged as Major Plus... If SSUSA wants more M+ teams, this is hard to understand!

Discussion: SSUSA Northwest in Portland

Kudos to Dave & Fran for a great job in Portland again! Weather couldn't have been better, fields were very good, umpires were good (except for one knucklehead), everything was first class. Wish there had been more major plus teams there, but it was their loss!
Nor Cal teams were tough to beat...
Go MTC!!

Discussion: RENO FORMAT

The format is okay but only having two teams making the 50 Major Plus Sunday playoff is wrong. I'm sure SSUSA has run out of fields here but to possibly go 4-1 or even 3-2 and get sent home on Saturday is a bad deal! It should have been a 4 team single elimination bracket on Sunday to make it a real tournament in my opinion. It's not what I wanted to see from one of my favorite tournaments...

My Maxload didn't make it thru the first BP session... But it is a hot bat!
It had about 50 hits on is when it broke so no more break-in for my other Maxload...

SlopitchRR, I agree with you that there are other teams that could/should have been pushed into M+ with or before your team. I'm with MTC 50's, so I feel your pain! You guys finished ahead of us all last year. Look forward to seeing your team at Reno, you're a fun bunch to compete with!

Well, I see one team I thought belonged in the "new" Major Plus just made it, Four Seasons out of Oregon.. That seems right, they had a very good year in '08

Seems like they left a few teams from the western states behind that should have made it to major plus... I'm surprised how few teams actually got moved!

Since we (MTC 50's) got moved to Major plus here is what our schedule looks like so far. Rock 'N Reno.. Northwest Champs.. Western Natls.. Worlds in Phoenix.. I would appreciate knowing what the rest of the 50 Major plus group is doing...

I realize there are a large number of teams being considered during this re-rate. Wouldn't want it to be done without some good thought, it just seems like we've waited long enough since it was first announced. I hope we see it accomplished ASAP.
