Russell, Ph.D. Applied Physics, Kettering University. Have fun reading the info...lol...It hurts my head and I taught science in college as a part time instructor. |

| Dec. 31, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New Year Items to Think About Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. For Tater50 Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled. Meanness don't just happen overnight. Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads. Do not corner something you know is meaner than you. It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel word. Every path has a few puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway. Don't judge folks by their relatives. Remember silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time. Don 't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'. Sometimes you get and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every mornin'. Always drink upstream from the herd. Good judgment comes from experience and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in. Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and leave the rest to your God. |
| Dec. 22, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Ridge Hooks has been hospitalized Ridge is at home as of Dec. 21, 2010. Making progress, doing therapy everyday and doctors say that he will probably make a full recovery, but still needs best wishes and prayers everyday. |
| Dec. 18, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Plate & Mat as Strike Pitch in the over 35 league locally and pitch from time to time with senior team. I like the mat and I like the 8 foot pitching box in SPA. Also like Winky's curve...It was great to go backside when it broke. |
| Dec. 18, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How many guys have had the pleasure of playing with their son(s)? Played with oldest son and my granddaughter when she played third for the University of Maryland. Played with my youngest half man, half monster who could crush the ball but, fought with everyone...Not a great experience with the young one. |
| Dec. 17, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Purist.... A trip down memory lane...LOL. The below is from a 1965 rule book, 1. For rec players; Arc 3 to 10 ft. 2. For the pro; Arc 3 to 12 ft. Never knew that there was a difference. |
| Dec. 15, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How did you get your start in softball? Back in Brooklyn, NY in the late fifties we had stickball season, baseball season, softball season, etc. My relatives and I played some kind of ball all year long. Played fast and slow pitch during my military career around the globe. Never stopped playing, however, at 54 started playing senior ball. |
| Dec. 14, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Pitchers rubber DCPete, When you remove the bases the anchor peg is then covered by the mushroom, which makes the base anchor peg easier to find after dragging the field. |
| Dec. 13, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: hey staff Lefty, I will see you there if all of the Florida Thunder can make it. If not, see ya in Montgomery. |
| Dec. 13, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: softball player or not I will play no matter what equipment is authorized...It boils down to love of the game...However, as a person who is involve in putting on tournament for you guys I have to say that the majority and that includes the 70/75 and older guys, They all want plastic bats and good balls (Fire balls at present time)at the tournament they attend. |
| Dec. 13, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Pitchers rubber Many years ago in a league in a far off land (NW Florida) I removed the rubber and replaced it with two base peg mushrooms 24 inches apart...No more toe hole in front of where the rubber was. |
| Dec. 5, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: QUESTION FOR OUTFIELDERS Sure does and other players always ask me why my glove pocket is so wide. I usually them, good break in and the finger placement. |
| Dec. 5, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: QUESTION FOR OUTFIELDERS I use a 14 inch A-2000 and I do not place my pointing finger in the finger hole. I place 2 fingers in the pinkie hole, middle finger in the ring hole, etc. Without the pointing finger in the hole I have more cushion / give. |
| Dec. 5, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Ridge Hooks has been hospitalized We got the word yesterday prior to our senior league play and include Ridge and his family in the daily devotion. |
| Nov. 24, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Happy Holiday one and all... And remember, Everyday is a holiday, every meal is a banquet and everytime we meet at a tournament its a family reunion. Peace. |
| Nov. 19, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: interesting reading Gary...I would play with socks and broom handles (look up the name, its in the blood, lol.). Based on just organizing national and local tournaments the players WANT the senior bats and at present time the Fire ball. My own wish is for a more in the park game. However, the survey done a few years ago by SPA provide enough data for the associations to continue the bat and ball combo that most seniors desire. |
| Nov. 19, 2010 Airbosn | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: interesting reading MD-60, That info has been around for a while and both researchers are very knowledgable in their profession and softball. However, as a member of a tournament committee that sponsors Nationals for other associations I can say for sure that teams and players want senior bats and hot balls. I personally agree with you about defense, but senior softball is a business. The change will occur when all the senior associations agree to go to a lesser ball at the same time or a lawyer review the BBS information and tries to make a case that the association knew of the danger and failed to correct. |
