kellysultimatesports.com had them for $139 awhile ago, but they are listed for $199 now. Made an offer of $139 and they countered with $149. This was for the White Centenarian, but they have both.

Discussion: Update from USSSA National Convention

Happy Thanksgiving Stick,
Did your UIC mention anything about the new stamp bats for next year? I heard a rumor on another site that it would only be enforced for USSSA sanctioned tournaments, and up to the director in league ball for one more year.

Hi Jeff,

I heard the same thing about the insurance, USSSA bats once boken in are pretty close to senior bats(at least for me)and I would play in a USSSA tourney as long as they tested the bats. Shaved and rolled bats have become the norm in USSSA. My league team plays in an over 50 ASA tourney in Port Hope, Mi. every year with ASA bats and the Worth green dot ball(marshmallow) and have a great time.

Discussion: what kinds of bats?

Miken MV1 for USSSA and a Mizuno Wrath 98 for ASA. I have a Worth Duo2, Mizuno Blackout, and a Combat Avarice for USSSA next year. MV1 can hang with my senior bats.

We don't know that Benny is Eric. Benny Barnes broke his ankle in 1974 and required 3 surgeries. Benny also wore #31, while Robert Newhouse wore #44.

"As a lifelong Cowboys fan from the early Cotton Bowl days, I can say with a all sincerity, the Pokes never had a DB named Eric Barnes that played for them for ten years"

Bennie Barnes played DB for Dallas from '72-'82 and graduated from Stanford. He now works in San Pablo, Ca.(Info from Wikopedia). He is 61 years old.

Discussion: Combat Ambush vs Combat Twilight

Although the Ambush is a very good bat and the customer service is excellent, every new bat that comes out makes the same claim. IMO most of the senior bats are pretty darn close in all 3 categories. It all comes down to what feels good in your hands. With proper break-in and then game use only, a bat should last a long time. My bats rank: 1)28oz. EL Combat DaBomb Original 2)28oz. BAL Worth 454 3)27oz. White Centenarian 4) 27oz. EL Ambush 5) 27oz. Demarini Blue The One 6)28oz. Geezer. I am 59, 5'11" ,185, a line drive hitter who hits the occasional HR. I can go yard with any of these bats. Here in Detroit, Mi. the top performing bats are the Mikens and Reeboks. We hit Dudley Classic m's(40/325)

With 200 hits my White Centenarian has a slight edge over my 250+ hit Ambush, while my 250 hit 454 edges out the White Centenarian ,but my Original Combat is still the king. We hit Dudley Classic M's(40/325)

Discussion: For the guys who still play with the kids.......

Be thankful that you are in your 50's and still have good health. How many of the CR's are really fast enough to be game changers? Dont try to take this game away from those that are less fortunate than yourself. Remember that this is Senior softball. I am very thankfull to be 58 and still healthy enough to run for some of the legends of the game , whom you think should give up something they love doing.

Discussion: For the guys who still play with the kids.......

Courtesy runners allow alot of guys the oppurtunity to keep playing this game we love. The older the age group the bigger the necessity. IMO as long as you don't use the same guy twice in an inning who cares. When I play with the kids it is last out, and many times this just slows down the game. Guys who can't run anymore are usually stuck at C,1st, or 3rd. If they have to play anywhere else it is to your advantage. Remember, whatever the rule is both teams get to use it.

Gary 19, with the youth around here it's all about ego. If you have 280' power you can now hit hr's. It can get scary playing 3rd base with the kids let alone being a pitcher.

I play fall ball in Dearborn, Mi. and we hit the Worth Gold Dot Classic M's with temps in the upper 30's . The 2 bats that broke in our league were both shaved. I use my USSSA bats for bp in temps between 40-50 with Worth Classic M's and have had no problems, but when I hit Trump stotes(44/375) on a 53 degree day I broke 2 bats. Balls are kept in house before hitting.

neck10, I do that also. It allows me to check where I have been hitting the ball and if there has been any damage done to the bat.

Compression is the measurement used for hardness of a ball. The compression of the ball gets harder with the colder weather. I have never heard anything about the cor changing with temperature. We hit Worth Classic M's in one league and Worth Hot Dots in another. The Hot Dots stay more consistant with weather changes while the Classic M's turn to mush at 75 and fly when temps get in the 60's.

I agree with mad dog on the balls. If you use Classic M's(40/325) or Classic +(52/275) your bats will last longer and when you hit the good balls in games you will be pleasantly rewarded.

Discussion: Bat Care

All good points above, but for me it is the break-in process. I believe with a composite bat you need to start out slowly. First 25-50 swings should be at 1/2-3/4 swing speed while rotating bat after every swing. This allows the composite materials to expand without creating weak spots. I then swing at normal speed for 25-50 swings, or until I feel the ball is jumping off the bat. When I feel the bat is broken in I use it for games only. Nothing worse for me than blowing up a bat in bp. I have blown up some USSSA and ASA bats, but my senior sticks, Combat (Gray & Red) heading into 5th season, Geezer 3rd season, and U2 second season, are alive and hot. Make sure to rotate bat after every swing and stay away from hard or wet balls , and you should be rewarded with a longer bat life.

PS: Big strong hitters are going to destroy bats much faster than your average hitter. When it is below 60 a good USSSA bat will do the trick. Composites and a batting cage are not a good idea.

Yes, 55+ AAA. SPA had 4 or 5 in our area last year. With this economy we need to keep our traveling costs down.
