Discussion: Ratings questions

Could anyone help with the following:

A team now rated 65AA moves up to the 70s division in 2021. Will they maintain the AA rating?

A player who is rated 65AA goes to the World Championships in St. George to fill in (for only one tournament) with a 65AAA team short on players. Can he play with a 70AA team in 2021?

It seems inevitable that all tournaments for all age groups will be canceled/postponed in the near future. Some need to reread what Dr. Jim Robb wrote at the top of this post.

Discussion: Corona Virus (COVID-19)

As a UCSD graduate I was proud to read this great post on COVID-19 by Dr. Robb. Too bad the authorities are not providing this level of information.

I do have a couple of questions. Since the non-symptomatic phase of infection can possibly last up to 27 days (according to reports), would the zinc lozenges still be an effective option? Would it be possible to take them periodically on a prophylactic basis either on a schedule or if exposure is suspected?

It has been said by some that the virus might also enter through the eyes or even ears? Is that not true? The reported severe effects we've all heard about seem to be respiratory in nature, but just curious if those other modes of entry are possible.

Thanks again!

Discussion: World Masters Playing at Sunset Park Softball Complex

You're right, biggflyy1953. What was I thinking?

This year I'm grateful to be playing on any fields but it's disappointing to be banished to Area 51. I guess $795 doesn't buy what it used to.

Discussion: World Masters Playing at Sunset Park Softball Complex

In the past the Sunset fields were very nice but last year the grass outfields were not great, particularly field 11 with bare spots and bad hops. And fields 5 and 6 (near the little league fields) were peppered with gopher holes in the outfield near the fences.

But they are like Dodger Stadium compared to where we'll be playing- the infamous Shadow Rock. Two of the fields are little more than glorified cow pastures. And Hollywood wasn't much better (as of 4/18 at least).

Dave,
As a follow up to your original answer to my question, what prevents a team from adding an ineligible player to their roster using the online tool?

As a manager I can go into the system, locate a player clearly not eligible for our team (he's Major +) and the "add" button is available to me. Obviously I did not follow through and do the add but it appears that I could have.

If that is the case, how would the ineligible player be detected? Would an opponent have to protest during a tournament game and if the player was listed on the roster what would happen?

Thanks for confirming that, Dave.

And another rating question please...
Is it permissible for a current 60AAA player (he is 65 years old) play with a 65AA team? According to the Team Rating Index Chart that is a TWO R/I difference which is not allowed. Or is it?

Thanks, Bruce, for posting the handout from the Bob O'Brien presentation you attended. Unfortunately I could only view page one as clicking the next page caused a black screen and just kept loading and loading without ever showing. Am I doing something wrong?

Discussion: 70 & over playing after dark under the lights

As a new 65 team we were placed in the AAA division despite having five 70 year olds and five 75+ year olds on the roster... Now it is likely we will have to play a 6:30 pm game (definitely dark by then) in Phoenix on Tuesday. I'm concerned for the safety of our players and was surprised to learn that even 65 teams are scheduled for night games.

Any idea when the TENTATIVE field assignments for the upcoming November Winter Worlds in Phoenix will be available? Given the often long travel times in Phoenix they've been very helpful in the past.

Discussion: Softball Venue Review Site- Senior Softball Addict

Great site, looking forward to additional reviews.

Your poor rating of Shadow Rock definitely mirrors the disappointing experience we had there this past April. The two "grass" fields really suck and the wind is often an issue.

As of April 2018 the Hollywood fields had deteriorated further from the mediocre condition we found last September. Lots of weeds and uneven grass clumps that would likely be dangerous at night (we played past 10 pm in 2017).

Even with the lower quality of fields 5 and 6 at Sunset Park (beware of gopher/prairie dog holes on the warning track at Field #5), I'd still rate that venue a solid 3. Nice park and the other four fields are quite good.

Condolences to the 65 AAA & AA divisions who must have drawn the short straw to be sentenced to the Shadow Rock fields for the upcoming Southwest Championships in Las Vegas. Who did they alienate?
