Looking for the manager of Olde D's to contact me regarding playing with them in 2012. Have one Major level outfielder and AAA level 3rd basemen from Wisconsin that played against you guys in St. George.

Discussion: Snowbird rule interpretation

The Snowbird Form sates that a snowbird must reside in the snowbird State for three (3) consecutive months. I have a permanent residence in my home State and a condo in my snowbird State. Business requires me to travel from my home State to my Snowbird State every other month. I do this year around. Would the powers to be (or my peers) consider me ineligible for the Snowbird Exemption?

Thanx, in advance, for your considerate answers.

Discussion: Robbing Players from Teams

Hi Bob,
I see your so-called robbing of players as a normal occurance in sports regardless of age.
If a player on my team wants to leave for whatever reason he is free to go. Why would youwant to keep a player that is not happy for some reason? Heck, even the pros, (spelled paid players) may think the grass is greener on the other side.
My question would be what do you think of managers that let players go?

If softball is your sport and you are in your early 60's and live in Wisconsin, or a bordering State, e-mail me with your name and address for a chance to play some competitive ball.

Discussion: All Tournament Selection

One criterion not mentioned is the one our players thnk is special. I let each of the players select one player for the All Tournament Selection. The way I do it is a give them a piece of paper and have them write their name first then write their player choice. Selection by fellow players is a high honor! on our team.

By far the Worth Mayhem 120 (Green) bat will rule everythng but the ASA. It is a Miken II in disguise, right down to the rod in the handle and similar composite material.

I know of no documented injuries occurring when two teams of differennt levels play each other. I think this issue is like the bat issue. There are no documented injuries casued by a high compression bat either.

Discussion: I need an Easton Synergy bat knob !!!

My wife, yes she still is, ran over my Easton Synergy 2 bat and broke the end knob. Does anyone have a broken Synergy with a good knob as Easton has not replied to my requests for assistance?

I have pictures if you would like to see her work. Just send me your e-mail address.

How do you think the Major/Major + teams would fare if there was no courtesy runner rule?

Discussion: Mayhen is to SPA as Miken is to SSWC

Mark my words, the Worth Mayhem 120 will rule the SPA as the Miken Ultra II does in the SSWC,
Watch for it in the SSWC when Ultra's are consumed.

We knew this had to happen as Miken supports the SSWC and Worth the SPA. It was just a matter of time for the SPA to get "a one upsmanship"

Discussion: New SSUSA Bat Policy

I also played at Indy in the 60+ age group that Gary Heifner says only half the batters used Miken Ultra II's. Gary must be Ultra blind as 95% of the opponents we faced used this great bat. Heck, our catcher yelled "No Miken" if a batter did not use one. The outfield would then step in about 10 feet.

If you guys want a major/major plus tournament then set one up! Call managers that are at your rating level and pick a tournament to play at. I'm sure TD's will gladly take your money. If your excuse is that you do not know the other managers call the association's headquarters and get their demographics.

Discussion: Courtesy Runner rule revisited. I would like comments!

I would like to have your comments on the Senior Softball Courtesy Runner Rule. Currently any player on the roster can CR for any base runner at any time. A few years ago this rule had been modified because of abuse to where the runner that is replaced may not be used as a runner that inning.

Proponents of the CR state senior players like the rule because it is comforting to know that if they feel a twinge or nursing an injury that one can at any time get another player to run for you. They also state that it gives a chance for players that are not good hitters to play on a tournament team or accomplished hitters that cannot field a position.

Those in favor of eliminating the CR rule suggest that the injured player ruling prevail. This implies that the injured runner is permanently out of the game. While this may sound drastic to some let's examine the issues. How many times have you seen a gross misuse of this rule? A CR inserted in a game for speed as opposed to injury or limping to first base inning after inning yelling courtesy runner and then go on defense?

It seems that, as with most things, the best solution falls in the middle. If total elimination is too harsh of a change to Senior Softball managers/players then perhaps a courtesy runner can run only once per game.

I could go on and on with the pros and cons of courtesy runners but would rather hear your comments.

I will tally your comments and provide a statistical summary to the Summit Committee for rule evaluation. If you would like to e-mail me off of this web site my e-mail address is bbtb@execpc.com

Thanx, in advance, for your comments.

One of our players came up with the brilliant idea of moving first base back one step to eliminate all those close plays. About the same brilliance as lengthening them!!!!!

It is admirable that you support your players but have you considered that a third place team has just two selections and the third player on the third place team could have hit and fielded better then your guy? What can one do to this player beside hyping him on this board?
