Discussion: The Passing of Steve Simmons

Life is so short but it is good to hear that it sounds like Steve was a good man who loved God, His family and softball. God has given each of us a promise that he will never leave or forsake us and now he is in the hands of God. To his family we wish you only wonderful memories and I am sure his impact will continue for those that knew him as a person. Bless you all in the days ahead.

Discussion: Ratings

I was wondering if the new ratings were going to come out soon. I was thinking they may be changed in last month or so? Just checking as I am aware of teams that have won several big tournaments and thought we might not be facing them anymore this year. I realize that alot of stuff is going on so it may not have been possible for thoughts about ratings change. Looking forward to a cooler Flagstaff this weekend.

Discussion: Prayers needed for the Dowell family

Fran and Dave you have taken good care of me several times when hurt on the field. The least I can do is let you know you are in my prayers and that CJS EXpress wish you and family comfort during these difficult times. God has a plan, not always one we as humans understand but I believe in his work. Bless you for your kindness to me over the years and please stay in touch and let us know if any of us can do anything for you.. You guys are part of our softball family and I am blessed by having you as friends. Gary Ingle

Discussion: READY TO PLAY AGAIN

Tom was great to see you batting away at times in Precott this past weekend. With (Ainn't Done yet) I saw that Just for Fun must have really been scared of you and walked you almost evry time. You did get one decent pitch and hit it over fense, Do not feel bad about losing to Just for fun by one run. They have been winning alot past year and are coming off winns in the Winter worlds and I believe went undeafed in the Spring words in Vegas end of April A great bunch of guys who I believe will soon be moved to major and will do well there also.I still hope yu catch on with us but really wish you the best. I stayed home Sunday my knee was to swollen to play. I did my best Sat for 3 games and somehow finished with 1out after 11 at bats. I hope we did well today and I plan to recover soon to get to Denver next Thursday. GI Great weather bless all. Great to see Dave Clark amd Mark Allup.

Discussion: READY TO PLAY AGAIN

Tom can help a team. He played two weeks ago in Pinetop with our CJS Express team. He batted 750 and had 23 RBI after 7 games. He hit a home run against the wind on the 320 fence. I suggest Bandits from AZ consider him.He can play 50 or 55's. His attitude is great and he can catch, 1st base or DH. I wish he was playing for us this weekend in Prescott but I understand we have 16 guys on roster and that makes it tough to keep all happy. Good luck Tom.

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS....A concern?

I am sure Terry Fran , George and dave will take great care of us senior guys just as in past. I am wondering if this recent senseless killing of people at a movie place in Aurora will have any impact on the games? I am sure all will be aware of the need to be sensitive of this community and to do all that we can to support them during this time of crisis. My heart and prayers go out to all there and realize the pain they are experiencing will affect them for the rest of their lives. Sure puts less importance on winning and losing at a time like this. Hugs to you guys and ladies and look us up in 55's as we play for CJS Express. GI

Discussion: TOURNAMENT WINNER AUTO MOVEUP

I am not sure but winning a national tournament does not always mean a move up. A team out of AZ. has won the Winter worlds Nov.2011 and now have won the Spring Worlds in Vegas April 2012 and I believe are still listed as AAA in 55 division. It can be a very difficult decision when deciding to move up or down a team. I know we took our lumps after winning worlds 3 years ago and were bumped up after losing over half our team. We played out the whole year and after the year were able to move back down to AAA.One of the rewards for success is moving up and seeing how you will compete. If you show that you can play at level you will stay if not you can ask to move back down after the proper period of time. I am thankful for this chance to compete no matter what the level. Love of the game and sharing time is still why I continue to show up.

Discussion: Vegas 55 AAA

Just wondered if anyone knew who won 55AAA division. My guess would be Just for Fun but there were some very good teams in division. Just for Fun after finishing 3rd in WORLDS and winning Winter WORLDS in Vegas in Nov look like a team heading for major. They are a great bunch of guys and deserve the success they have earned. Nice weather and dispite our poor results after winning 1st two games it was still nice to be out there on field with guys. GI

Discussion: DC and Angie getting married this week

Hey Big Ron the wedding went off as planned around 4:45 and they were still dancing at 8PM. I guess you owe Marshall some money. Very nice event , both bride and groom looked happy and Marshall made it thru games today without getting hurt and was part of wedding. Congrates Dave and Angie. Cisco was smooth on the dance floor.

Being a school counselor means I have to try and walk my talk for the kids and others. I tell kids no one wins in a fight. I believe that we all lose something when a fight breaks out. I tell our team Lets do our talking with the bats- Get hits . Sometimes I must be honest I forget and open my mouth instead of keeping it closed. I have heard some here say words cannot hurt, I disagree with this and deal with others every school day who were hurt by mean words. But, we sure are blessed to have this chance to play a game like we did as kids and glad we can express our thoughts about the game.

I was trying to be nice I agree with you middle is open. I should have said a few have said they were going to try and hit or hurt me again this was more with the kids than seniors. One kid in league said I will hurt you old man, I told him he would not get chance. I walked him first 3 times up and last time up he said I have not got a hit all night , I told him he would not get one this time either and walked him again. He shut his mouth after that. I was young once to. HA

Webbie I agree with you about removing or putting rubber ground level. Those crazy bounces off the rubber can really hurt someone. I am more concerned with the short hoppers in front of me than the line drives. I will say again I accept that I must cover up with helmit, face mask, Knee guards etc. to protect myself just as I put on my seatbelt when I drive. a form of protection. Do I like to do it ? NO but I will to continue for as long as I can to stay in the game and get the chance to make new friends and have more memories of the game I love. Robo2, I have had some players come up and tell me they will go middle, More I agree with the young bunch than seniors but it does occur. I could not play again if I tried to hit a pitcher or hurt any player and did it. I am blessed to be on the field. See you out there in AZ this weekend.

Hey Lefty just wondered do you use a safety Belt when driving? Glasses to help you see better, Medication if you need it. Maybe we should stop driving, go blind and die early and not use meds. Just a thought. While your at it maybe stop your insurance I am sure your family does not want the protection. PS bless you for your concern. Maybe we should just start playing with the japan sponge ball and we will all be safe and could use K- Mart bats

Discussion: Should you be able to go for hits between the second baseman and shortstop

I think it best to stay away from Political stuff as I feel not one of them could pass a truth test or understand that our country needs conscience not all this other back stabbing positions. In speaking with the question that started this thread I guess I have to consider what I tell the kids at school when they are making a choice. will the results of your action be worth it to you? Can you accept the consequences of your action? I love playing the game and seeing old and new friends. I am willing to take the real risk that I can get hurt playing the game I love , My choice. Line drives are a part of the game and I sometimes hit around the middle when I need a hit and see that area the most open. I like others of you would feel terrible if I hurt another pitcher or any player but if the time comes that I think I must try to take someone out I believe it would be time to take up another sport. One of my Heroes George Washington Carver always asked himself one question when making a choice. (IS IT RIGHT) For me playing the game is right but hurting others on purpos would be wrong. I turned 59 today and am so blessed to still be a small part of the game. See you on the field. GI

Discussion: Should you be able to go for hits between the second baseman and shortstop

HAVING PITCHED THE LAST 30 YEARS I HAVE been hit far more than I like and now am more covered up and look like a hockey player but I still believe that I have no problem with anyone going for a hit up the middle. The crazy ones who tell you they are trying to hit you will have to live with the consequences of conscience if they succeed. balls are coming back at a fast pace as the bats propells the ball faster and farther than when we were young 20-30 years ago but as most pitchers understand they take a chance every time they step on the field no matter how good they are. I will continue to play and pitch but am well aware that one day a ball will have my name on it and the grandkids will just have to hang around with Gram ma. Webbie as much as I like you my friend I have not missed pitching to you. Maybe 80 and over when you drop down a few levels. GI

Webbie it sure is great to hear that I am not the only pitcher that cannot keep you in the park. I still an trying to figure out how you hit my illegal 16 foot pitch , Sun in your eyes oppisite field over the fence for a homerun. No wonder you break bats. We need to get you a second job so you have to retire from playing. Just kidding, love to pitch against you, maybe a 20 footer next time. GI
