| Feb. 19, 2011 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Where is he now? To logan/Gary C: Kind of sad that your comments were always hostile Interesting posts are always welcome here. Senior softball players play for fun and friendships, Since none of us make a living from this activity. Maybe you can rejoin these conversations when You're not so intent on being critical of others. All of us make mistakes, but we learn from them, So as not to repeat them (hint hint). Seems that your posts made my mind go acrostic. |

| Jan. 22, 2011 The real deal | Topic: Product review Discussion: Sports Sensors - Swing Speed Radar Fascinating stuff guys, thanks. As a line drive hitter, I always thought my lack of power was due to the fact that I'm a front foot hitter, not bat speed. My college baseball coach likened my swing to a boxer punching the heavy bag while sitting on a chair vs. a boxer punching the heavy bag coming off the back foot. Both punches were the same speed, but the latter had more power because of body leverage. |
| Jan. 17, 2011 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How Important of a Stat is Batting Average? I'm not sure why we even need to have all-tourney players at our age. The team award should be the ultimate prize... |
| Jan. 11, 2011 The real deal | Topic: Bats Discussion: ASA approved bat Voltage SB73V (Louisville Slugger). Great bat... |
| Jan. 2, 2011 The real deal | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Dear Dirty Gary19, By the number of your posts an EVERY SUBJECT, it is very clear to the rest of us that you are very passionate about senior softball (and for the record, a lot of us happen to agree with you on these issues). But constantly defending and re-stating your position on every subject isn't necessary, and quite frankly, is a turn off. WE GET IT! Sometimes less is more... A couple of other posters dominated every discussion with their rants, and they ended up losing the opportunity to voice their opinions. Not trying to be mean, just honest. |
| Dec. 26, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: For the Love of the Game Hit the Gap, I'm living proof that there IS crying in baseball (after watching the video). Don't think I'll be complaining about "stuff" too much anymore... |
| Dec. 26, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: For the Love of the Game I know this is long, but check out this video. Kind of put's things in perspective... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCSzysu_flY |
| Dec. 24, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Wishing All A Merry Christmas Lively bats and balls... er, umm... sorry about that guys... Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year to all (and that also includes Einstein and Gary C). Game - Set - Match! |
| Dec. 22, 2010 The real deal | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Courtesy Runner Positive & Negative Views Wow, Dirty! 45" chest? 36" waist? 17" arms? Very impressive! In my mind I picture you as another Paul Teuttle Sr. (of American Chopper fame). I can't remember the last time, if ever, that I measured myself, except for my weight, blood pressure, and cholesteral... To keep in shape I do a few 12 ounce curls, especially in the parking lot after games! |
| Dec. 20, 2010 The real deal | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Courtesy Runner Positive & Negative Views Maybe a good way to stop the abuse of this rule (putting in a rabbit in a run scoring situation) is to have each team designate which player(s) needs a courtesy runner before the game starts. I know a few excellent players with new knees and hips that have been instructed by their doctor to limit their running. |
| Dec. 19, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What about Fathers? As a kid, I grew up watching my dad play (3b and lead-off hitter). Then got a chance to play on the same team with him in a church league for about 10 years. He's now 85 years old and finally stopped playing when he reached 80! |
| Dec. 18, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How many guys have had the pleasure of playing with their son(s)? Playing with your kids is the best! I have had the pleasure of playing with my 3 sons and son-in-law in city leagues and weekend tourneys for the last 5 years. Currently playing weekend tournaments on a father - son team: 3 of us dads and the rest are all our sons. Nothin' better... |
| Dec. 17, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: A New Normal? By the looks of another thread, it seems like the haze is starting to get thicker... |
| Dec. 17, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: February Tournament of Champions Polk County Sorry I missed the previous discussion about this. Why not have an end of the year TOC in late Oct. / early Nov. in a warm weather state, and continue the "long term contract with the people in Florida" by calling it the season's "Opening Weekend" tournament? Might actually draw more tournament champions for the year's finale. I know - too much change... |
| Dec. 16, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: February Tournament of Champions Polk County I know this has been talked about before, but shouldn't the TOC should be the last tournament of the calender year instead of the first? A lot of teams have moved up / re-tooled / disbanded / etc. by February... |
| Dec. 15, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How did you get your start in softball? After college baseball and two years of semi-pro league, I started playing fast pitch softball - what a blast! Still can't believe the things some of the pitchers could do with a pitched ball. After moving to CA., slow pitch was the only thing available. A little anti-climactic at first, but now it's one of the joys of life! Currently playing 2 nights a week city league (one of those with my 3 sons) in addition to senior ball. Let's play two! |

| Dec. 14, 2010 The real deal | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: A New Normal? A lot of us have noticed and appreciated the kinder, more civil tone to this discussion board the last few days (and a couple of missing posters?). Thanks to SSUSA staff for allowing this website to return to what it was intended to be. Let's play ball! |
