Discussion: JAN. 2012 HELP

Ron,

How r u, I understand its been a little cold their in Arizona.

Looks like both Marv and Donnie are having tournaments on the same day and in the same city (Hemet). All this does is dilute the number of teams and level of competition. I wish the tournament directors would think more about the teams and having full/competitive events versus scheduling events on the same dates.

See you in Hemet,

Phillip

Discussion: Ratings on team in championship game

SSUSA Staff, why was the LVSSA World tournament (now part of SSUSA) excluded from the list of championship events which result in winning teams being automatically moved up? I would think any team winning a world tournament with more than 6-teams in a division would be moved up also!

Discussion: B.A.S.A. WORLD TOURNAMENT

I also played in this tournament this past weekend with teamates Billy Steel, Steve Imlay and Ron Danowski, who just happen to be non-black and several other top players. As Ron stated the BASA had over 270 teams in various divisions, including senior divisions with some of the top senior players in the nation participating including non-black players. What Ron Danowski and Ron Chenier were attempting to start a discussion on, is how can the BASA organization have a world touranment for just $375 per team and give away such a 'GREAT' prize package: bat bags, monogrammed windbreakers, watches and rings for 15 players on the winning team. Even the second place teams received bat bags and batting gloves. One thing that was also important to us is that the tourament director worked with the out of state teams to ensure they had a late start and that the tourament ended early on Sunday to accomodate Sunday flights. This meant that most of us working people didn't have to miss work on Thursday or Monday. Hopefully some of our other senior associations will talk with Mr. Hurcel Ivey from BASA about how they are able to keep tourament cost so low and give away such great prize packages.

Thanks Vice fot the shirts, tournament fee and bats and more importantly congratulations to you, Ron, Dave and the rest of the guys on winning your division.

Curveball,
U are correct, Ultra II's were allowed at BLD Cathedral City and Chino Hills last year. Per Nate Hines, they will also be allowed at ASA senior tournaments again this season at BLD parks. Nate has a few 1-day ASA senior events scheduled at BLD this season (check the ASA website).

Discussion: LVSSA 55 and 60 Major Plus Teams

Andy, we 'West Coast' are rated Major in SPA and sere re-rated to Major Plus by SSUSA in April 2010, despite not winning a tournament in any division since 2008. We played in the SPA Major world in July and finished 4th out of 7 major rated teams, but due to our SSUSA rating have been told that we must play 55 Major Plus in Las Vegas. I just wish that all these associations would agree on rankings and be consistent in how they are applied. If the two major associations have different team ratings, I think teams should be allowed to play based on their actual record over the past 6 months and the input from the actual tourament directors where they played. I am getting very frustated with these secret committee rankings and or special treatment for select teams. Just let us know the rules/guidelines and apply them equally to every team.

Discussion: Teams moving up that have never won a Major Event

Doker,
Well at least your team has won a tournament in the pass two (2) years. Our team the West Coast All-stars hasn't won any tournament in over '2' years. Despite this fact we were moved back to the Major- Plus division by Terry Hennessey, SS-USA in April 2010. This seems rather biased considering teams that Major rated teams that defeated us over the pass 2-years, including one that double dipped us in the 2010 SS-USA Winter World tournament is still rated as Major. Our rating has been an issue for our team with Mr. Hennessy, SS-USA since we started as one of the few predominantly minority teams in 2005 and continues today. But as we have all come to know Terry H. is SS-USA and the true decision maker. Regardless, no one is forcing us to play SS-USA, though on the West Coast our options for senior ball are limited. Hope to see many of you next week at the SPA World in Dalton, were we will be playing as a MAJOR team. Ridge Hooks and his association reviewed our performance and roster over the pass 2-years and agreed we should be playing in their Major division. Hopefully Ridge, Terry and the other senior tournament directors will go back to working together to ensure consistent team rankings, while also reducing the cost of tournament entry fees, which are getting way out of line.

Gents, I've been told by SS-USA that they will be updating their team ratings list this week. Hopefully the new ratings will align with the other two major senior associations.

I say keep the awards and lower the tournament cost, or provide a reasonable dollar credit towards future events. Tournament cost continue to increase at a disproportional rate, but again we don't have to go/play.
