| March 18, 2008 MK39 | Topic: Bats Discussion: New ASA bat standard Lecak: You have the story right all the way to when the bat companies have to have there wharehouses clear of current models and right up to when they have to stop giving current models for returns and will start giving the newer models for returns. ASA and the bat companies will tell this story when they are good and ready to but i feel that now is the time for the consumer to be made aware of it. I put the following message on all my ASA Composite bats last week to start giving a heads up to the consumers interested in ASA bats and have been answering a ton of questions on the phones and through email. Get this ASA 98 mph ASA Approved bat while you can. This bat will be never be made again for ASA. Starting July 1st all new models of bats for ASA will be subject to new ASA test procedures. ASA has notified all bat companies that all (2009 Models) will have to undergo a new test named the (ABI) Advanced Break in Technique test which is actually ASA rolling the bat with a compression machine on the barrel. The bat would then be put to the 98 mph test and if it fails then ASA reserves the right to ban the bat. This has forced the Bat companies to make the bat around 93 to 94 mph in the wrapper to begin with instead of how they have been making bats like this as close to 98 mph in the wrapper as they could. All current models like this one will be grandfathered in indefinitely and will not be subject to the new ABI testing. So get them while you can. Mike Kelly Kelly's Ultimate Sports |
| Oct. 12, 2007 MK39 | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Rotator cuff Lecak: Thanks for the encoraging story. After this i stick to hitting the small ball as it don't hit back like the big one has done the past year or so. I can hook you up with Rick P. as he plays golf every sunday and you can take my place but only until i come back from rehabbing. Thanks again MK39 |
| Oct. 12, 2007 MK39 | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Rotator cuff Torn Labrum and Rotator Cuff: I went and tore both at the same time. I will have Surgery in November after the Phoenix Worlds. I have been unable to hit even a golf ball since this injury 4 weeks ago and finaly went to the doctors for this finding. Any one have any idea how long rehab will be for this type of injury and my hitting when healed will only be golf balls in the future. Thanks for any advice. | Oct. 3, 2007 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: LVSSA 2007 Audieh: I would first like to say what a pleasure it was to meet you and to compete against your team of most excellent ballplayers. Not 1 bad word or 1 bad attitude in any of the games we played each other over the weekend. Nothing but respect was shown both ways just like it should be. Looking forward to another go round with you this weekend in the 55's. You have described the field conditions, bat and balls conditions perfectly. It was a true hitters field and the big boys showed up with the big shots. Wood, this is for you. There were 3 balls hit in the 500ft range in this game. Burbanks was no doubt the longest and Mark Martin was next over the wall to slightly left center field and Rick Perez hit the 3rd one over the wall to dead left field. Both sides knew it and we all enjoyed it a ton. I will see both of you gentlemen on firday. Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports 55 Major plus |

| Dec. 8, 2006 MK39 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Is it better to use a heavier or lighter bat? E. Ness i recently swung a Larry Carter Demarini juice bat in batting practice. This was the one he swung this year on the long haul bombers tour in the major league ballparks. This bat was super end loaded and had a weight of at least 30 ounces. Needless to say it was way more bat then i would normally swing but if your only going to swing it 10 times, then it can be done. This bat dropped some major bombs and it was not because of my bat speed or lack of, it was because of the built in flex and the very very heavy end load. Thanks Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports |
| Dec. 8, 2006 MK39 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Is it better to use a heavier or lighter bat? Lecak, Hit the Gap, Balanced bats for placement and control to all fields. End Loaded bats for more power to all fields. Aluminum bats work better if lighter and composites work better if slightly heavier. With Aluminum, you have to flex the barrel with more bat speed while with composite you have more flex built in and it works better with a heavier bat so that it does not deflect while hitting the ball. Rays theory was right for aluminum bats and if he was here today he would more then likey say go slightly heavier with a composite bat. This is only my opinion. Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports |

| Aug. 3, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... jah#4 Are you saying that this incident has caused your 50 major plus team to disban?? I sure hope not as i was sure looking forward to the competition between our 2 teams. say it ain't so. Hennesey and Hooks, please pay attention here to the damage caused by too many uneeded rules. sorry to hear it Don. Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports/Worth 50 major plus |
| Aug. 3, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... RedEye Of the 15-20 that are active some of those are 55 major plus now. Couple more of them dont really want to be major plus and dont show up at all. weed it all out and you are down to about 10 partisipating 50 major plus teams and we never seem to get together for the same events. You do bring up a great point though as to how many out of place major plus players there really is, either playing on major teams or not playing at all. The real major plus teams are those who volunteer to be in the major plus divsion, not those who are forced into it. I dont have all the answers to what to do here but i know that less restrictions would be better. thanks Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports/Worth 50 major plus |
| Aug. 3, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... PattyMac How ya doing, you big time home run hitter you. Been to long since i last saw ya. Wish you guys were coming to the usssa this weekend. open regions, bring who you can or want and no problems. NSA and all other supporting majority of players is making a huge mistake. it means that on the field you always have to have the majority from the state you claim or else this could happen. i understand that terrell and some other guys from ga. could not make it for that event, 4 guys from ga. is what i heard and it lreaves you in a bad place under the majority rules. Most people have having a hard time understanding how hard it is to treplace a major plus player like terrell with another major plus players at the last moment and with border restirctions. What do you do when players cant make it and it puts you in jepordy. 1. pick up anyone who can go regardless if they can play or not just to fill out the roster?? 2. take a chance and just go with what is left of the team?? it could have been avoided by just letting you play with enough florida and ga. players and your 1 exemption. Looks like NSA really blew it by not letting you. sorry for your lost weekend and you deserved better. looks like there own rules confused them. are you guys going to vegas late sept. looking forward to seeing you again. | Aug. 3, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... STONEMAN First off, good to hear from you again. This is the kind of stat that hennesey and the boys have fed to senior softball all along as the reason to close borders and to descriminate against certain states. I have some big problems with these stats. 1. of all those gazillions of adult senior male men, how many are slowpitch softball players. 2. how many are of major plus caliber which again is all i am talking about here. California right now has 3 50 major plus teams. I have mine from Nevava and the oregon masters out of oregon. This region of bordering states to ca. has produced 5 teams in the 50 major plus division by itself. Seeing how there are only really 10 teams in the 50 major plus divsion, that means we have already supplied half of the divison from this 3 state area. That means that the entire rest of the US only produced the other 5 teams combined. There are a lot of players of major plus caliber who need teams to play on but cant becuase of border requirements and it is killing the programs ability to grow. Go to open regions and the major plus program would prosper. Hey we go to the USSSA this weekend , wish us luck Mike Kelly ]Kelly's Sports/Worth 50 Major plus |
| Aug. 2, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... smooth01 Your right and i did base my team out of Nevada this year so that i would have a bigger area to draw from. I am not sure if you knew that it is not just saying that i am based from Nevada but my team has to have the majority of players also come from Nevada before it is a legal roster. This means i had to let some players from California go that i would have rather kept on the team as well. If they would just say to pick a state and start the process from there it would have worked for the specialty tank team that was forced out of the NSA event last weekend for not having the majority of players from Ga. and being forced to then be based out of Florida which left them without enough legal and out of the event. These rules are not needed for major plus in my opinion but i will abide by them until they are changed. thanks Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports/Worth |
| July 31, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds part deux BruceinGa Don got the wrong story. We played and won the Western NSA Worlds back in june and i followed the NSA rules 100%. I had to trim Ca. players to make the Majority from Nevada and used my 1 exemption player that i had coming. Your original story rang more true then this one. Sounds like there still might be some confusion amongst your guys involved. Your sponsor responded to me on the old scout by saying what you had originally said as well. Sorry that you guys had to go through this and look forward to playing you and your big boy team in viva las vegas late september. Mike Kelly Kelly's Sports/worth 50 major plus |

| July 31, 2006 MK39 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA Worlds....... mad dog Thanks for the support and your sure right about the overall lack of 50 major plus teams but it can all change if organazations like NSA and ASA follow the USSSA lead and get away from these other senior softball organazations who are involved in this senior summitt and follow there own patterns that they have used in adult ball and let it carry over into senior ball. That would mean no residency requiremenys at all. USSSA is right there now and this coming weekend would have had a great draw if they had not been blindsided by ruth and hennesey putting the ISA on the USSSA established weekend. Sounds like a cutthoart move to me that is not good for senior softball at all. All this sleaze move by them accomplished was sending some teams to mo. and making it even worse for us. thanks ruth and hennesey. ps i see ruth actually had to send his 60 team to salem for the usssa , why is that ?? because the other 60 teams knew right from wrong and decided to go to the usssa whos event has been the same weekend for the last 7 years and they decided not to go to the ISA in mo. I ask once again how this was good for senior softball???? there are 3 open weekends in august and they picked this established weekend?? Small wonder USSSA droped out of the senior summitt group. mike kelly kelly's sports/worth 50 major plus |
