Discussion: End cap reglued Altered Bat

I had an old combat that the end kept coming off of, ( happened to a lot of them) and we glued it back together. It was complained of by the other team that it was an altered bat, and if I used it I would be declared out and possibly tossed out of the league and association for using an altered bat.

I used another bat but researched the rule and as near as I can tell, an altered bat is only one altered to enhance performance, so that grips, tape etc do not qualify. Certainly the bat was not shaved or altered but was repaired, with marine glue to keep the cap on. It had no effect on performance and was a really old bat.. the original grey combat.

Was it an altered bat or not?

Discussion: 56 year old outfielder with residence in PHX and Montana looking to play in Vegas

Hello,

I played with various teams in Phoenix a bit last winter and am splitting time between Montana and Arizona and travelling. I am retired and available with a little notice, to travel to most parts but we have a great airline rate to Vegas to play. I am current with the Senior Softball Association. I bat left, throw left, have a very strong arm for our age group and run as well as anyone in our age group. I have played on AAA and Major teams in left field and left and right center. I hit for power and average and traditionally bat in the 1 to 4 spot on any team I have played on in the past thirty years. I am 6 foot 2, 220 Lbs. I prefer to play on teams that want to win and have a realistic chance to do so, if I am going to travel a long distance to play ball.

Frankly, I want to do different things and meet new people and if I could, play on competitive upper level teams while seeing new parts of the country. I was an All American last time we played in Nationals in Spokane a few years back.

If you have any interest, email me back at mslacool@hotmail.com. I think I can help any team that is willing to give me a shot.

Paul

Hi Tim, I thank you for your post to my post but I have gotten some inquiries about playing with traveling teams and that is my first hope, so I am going to pursue that, first. If it doesn't look like a good fit, then I will follow up with you and see if there is still any interest. Thanks again.

Thanks for your replies. I have sent messages to each of your emails, with the exception of db14, who probably isn't interested anyway.

Okay, I am finally down here and got my condo, which is in the Papago Park area. I brought my softball bag. I will contact you each. I wrongly assumed I would get notice of replies to my post and didn't know anyone had responded. So today is my first time seeing your messages.

Heres the Bio....I am moving to Phoenix Jan 31, 2011 and hail from Montana where I have resided for 36 years. I played on the top team in the state, and batted in the 1 to 4 slot since I was 10. I run as well and in Montana, am considered the fastest senior player in the state group, have an arm as good as anyone in our age group and can hit for power and average as well as hit it to the off field as well as anyone in our age group the latter skill being the one most important in the past 20 years. I play in the outfield in left or left center most of the time since my arm is still strong enough to throw to most of the bases from there with power and accuracy but my natural position of right center, that I played for most of my younger days, now leaves me a little short handed on throws to home and third a few times too often . I was an all american the last time our team went to Western Nationals in Spokane. I am hoping to get on a travelling highly competitive team here in Phoenix and meet some guys while playing a game I absolutely love. I am 6.2 and weigh about 220 and generally pull the ball to right field unless I am trying to do something different. I am happy to fill in for fun and let you decide if I make the grade. But it would be my goal to find a top level team. I played baseball in college as a pitcher outfielder and was a wide receiver at the University of Montana in the 70s.

I got a call and I guess I left some information that is important out. I am from Montana and to my knowledge, we don't have a team going. I can play 55 or 50 and I usually bat in the 2 to 4 slot but I have led off in some tourneys for various reasons. We get some pretty decent airfares from Missoula to Vegas so it seemed like a good spot to try to get a game or two in... I do not know if I am eligible to play on a team that isn't from MT but I was asked by MT and ID teams before and I never could travel before.
