Went to Bullhead City two weekends ago with a 65 team - Same S--t, had to give 5 runs to all other teams in our bracket, lost all 5 games, one by 10 run rule after 5 innings (using the 5 runs we had to give them). In another game we came back in the bottom of the seventh scoring 10 runs to tie the game and lost because they were the visiting team and so in addition to the 5 runs they were given an additional 1/2 run to prevent ties!!!!!!!!! Sorry, Woody and anyone else who thinks giving up the runs should be a motivator - the rule as is, just plain SUCKS!!! |

Woody, I admire your "pragmatic" view of this subject, but with all due respect you may have an opinion on this issue but you can't possibly relate to the situation we faced. You have had the fortune of either playing or managing Major Plus/ Major teams for at least the last decade surrounded by some of the best senior players in the Western region. I wouldn't take the 5 runs if I were you either. As for getting 5 runs, I doubt that happened enough times to even mention it. I'm talking about a first year team that was a 60 AA team last year that lost half it's players to 65. They kept 7 of those AA players and tried to get a few AAA players and 2 that were "on a "Major roster" last year and step up to AAA. At this point in the season we had a less than a .500 season going (which is now closer to .400). Did you notice we had O home runs? The players we added obviously did not add power last weekend, so where was our "competitive" advantage?! I'm not "moaning", we just wanted to play "even up" based on the overall make up of our team, which was "at best" AAA, unlike the Major Plus Major teams you have "always" been a part of. |
| Feb. 27, 2012 ALLPRO | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Giving 5 runs to "inferior" teams Just returned from a AZ tournament that we entered as a 60 AAA TEAM. We were in a bracket with 4 other 60 AAA teams and one 60 AA team. Before we arrived we were told we would be giving up 5 runs to the AA team. When we arrived we were told that since we added 3 players that were considered major/major plus we had to give up 5 runs to all teams (including the host team). The players we added were a 69 year pitcher, a 68 year 1st baseman and a 67 year old short stop. We also had a 67 year old DH, a 65 year old 3rd baseman, and 2 65 year old outfielders. We lost 4 games, 2 straight up (including getting run ruled with the 5 extra runs by the host team) The only game we won was against the AA team by one run in the bottom of the seventh. We hit 0 home runs in the 5 games! It was ridiculous to penalize us on the addition of 3 players without considering the team as a whole. The rule needs to be applied considering all the facts, especially the age of the players, the age of the bracket and the level being played. It is very difficult to over come a 5 run deficit, especially when only 5 runs are being allowed each inning. Overall the giving of 5 runs is a "flawed" rule for several reasons: 1)giving up the 5 runs and having to be the home team is not an advantage, 2)if the team getting the extra runs scores 5 runs in the inning they should not receive an additional run, 3) no team should get an extra run in the "open" inning,4)the extra runs should not factor into getting "run ruled". This rule needs to be changed and be applied "judiciously not "arbitrarily! |

I know it's late, but if any team participating in the LVSSA 60's division (any level)needs a "hitter" (I can Catch or AH) please contact me thru this site. I am a member of the LVSSA and can get myself added to any roster quickly and easily. If there is any interest leave a number and I'll call you. I recently participated in the 65 Major division of the LVSSA and had a OBA of .680. Also, looking for a chance to participate in the SSUSA Phoenix World's in either the 65's or 60's or both. |

If you are younger, lighter and otherwise in good shape you should regain at least 85% of your speed, but sorry to say running will never be a "strength" in your overall game again. |
| June 4, 2011 ALLPRO | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: hip replacement I had one replaced Dec. 2007 and one in January 2009. Just now getting my legs under me. I had complications (c-diff, almost died) and MERSA. Didn't help that I gained 40 pounds while recovering. I am playing again (catch/AH), but until I drop the weight running is still difficult. Don't know your size or weight but you must keep your weight under control as it greatly affects the stress on your new hips; do the rehab faithfully and I believe you will be ok to run again, but rounding the bases with any kind of speed will be a challenge. Just watched a Vegas team play in the SSUSA spring nationals in Mesquite that had 5 (FIVE) California players on it. The ban is one way, no bordering state players can play on a California team, but California players can play on bordering state teams! Think about it; is that ridiculous or what?! |
| Feb. 6, 2011 ALLPRO | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: hip replacement I had one hip replaced in Dec. 07 (still giving me trouble) the other in January 09 (like new). I am playing again as catcher and AH, but just barely able to get to first base.Two things have caused me problems, serious weight gain (about 40 pounds)and I contracted c-diff with the first replacement (almost killed me) and MERSA with the 2nd, so my circumstances have not been typical. With proper rehab and proper weight for your body type I believe you should return to near normal running ability. I wish you a healthy recovery and a quick return to softball. |

I have 2 sons that I played with in a "kids" league in Vegas at Sunset park, we also went back to back to back, but they all counted! I was the last to bat in that sequence and was getting some real pressure from my sons , but the "old man" came through and never let them forget it. It was great fun and a great, unforgettable experience! It was even covered in a short blurb in the local paper. |

Cal,who went undefeated in both the seeding and bracket play. 2nd was Resulz Realty from Vegas led by their coach and sponsor - Jeff Saterlee, a team with 10 60 players that will be moving up to the 60's in November. |
