| Feb. 4, 2013 cal50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 1-1 count no extra foul tourney Swing, now you are sounding like Gary19, you state an opinion then claim it is a fact. Although I agree that 1 and 1 count is the way to go, saying that people who can't hit are the ones that voted for the 0 and 0 count is very insulting to the older age groups who mostly voted that way. |
| Feb. 4, 2013 cal50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 1-1 count no extra foul tourney It does speed up the game, no question. Has the SSUSA made a final ruling on the 1 and 1? I have not seen it up brought for awhile and curious if they were still considering changing it based on the age survey results? |
| Jan. 11, 2013 cal50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: place best hitters last strategy Stick, I have not seen it as a problem at all on our 50 team. I agree harder for the younger ones to accept it. |
| Jan. 10, 2013 cal50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: place best hitters last strategy stick, I have always thought that you put together a lineup with 2 sets of 1 - 5 hitters. lead off opposite field power power 5th then no matter where you are at the end of an inning you are a threat the next inning. The key is to make sure that all hitters no matter how good are ok in their lineup role. Some hitters will hit differently depending on if they feel they are "slighted" in the lineup. |
| Jan. 7, 2013 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: More 1-1 Count Talk Tim, I believe that people who voted no on the 1-1 do so for a couple of reasons. I believe that they do not think it has an impact on getting complete games in or they want to stay traditional in the count because of reluctance to change. I disagree with you and think it has everything to do with the time and speeding up the game. Simple mathematics and common sense tell that starting with no count does make the game last longer. I actually like the 0-0 count as it gives me an additional swing to go down one of the lines. I have only 1 reason for wanting a 1-1 which is to speed up the game so complete games can be played. That's it, only reason for me. |
| Jan. 7, 2013 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: More 1-1 Count Talk Tim, I would think that the single biggest reason on the 1 - 1 count is to speed up games. I really see no other reason. I don't even think it would be an issue if all of the games played the full 7 innings. |
| Jan. 7, 2013 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: More 1-1 Count Talk Why should only pitchers be able to vote? Playing 7 innings is something we all want. |
| Jan. 1, 2013 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: More 1-1 Count Talk If 100% of the games played 7 innings then I agree go the full count. Simple mathematics show that the 1 and 1 count speed the game up. I am not sure if there is any other reason to go to 1 and 1 other than it speeds the game up. |
| Dec. 24, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: AAA HR rule question It is a home run. It also would have been a home run before the new rule. The key in your statement is that neither team had yet reached the limit. |

| Dec. 13, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: one out bases loaded If you tag the runner before you tag the base he is out regardless of whether he is standing on the base or not. If you tag the base first and then tag the runner while he is standing on the base he is safe because you took away the force by tagging the base first. |
| Dec. 10, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: one out bases loaded Wes, If the runner stayed on the base and you tagged the base first, then the runner going to third would be out and the runner who stayed on third would be safe. But if you tagged the runner while he was on the base first then tagged the base it would be a double play, both would be out. |
| Dec. 5, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes Regarding 1 & 1 count not saving time. If you do the math and say it causes only 1 extra pitch per batter. (We timed some pitches, the average pitch from pitcher to catcher until the pitcher threw his next pitch was about 15 seconds) If there is just 1 extra pitch per batter and estimate that there are a total of 80 plate appearances total for both teams in a game (multiply times 15 seconds). This would amount to 20 minutes of wasted time in a game. I am not sure if I am correct on the 1 extra pitch per batter, but if it is only 1/2 of what I say, that is 10 minutes wasted per game. What is the benefit of starting with a full count? |

| Dec. 2, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes SSUSA Staff, did you address the rule allowing the home team to up 1 home run in the bottom of the last inning? |
| Dec. 2, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes Webbie, no weather conditions at all. I went back and looked at the schedule posted, it said 50 minute time limit all along. I am sure most people overlooked that part of it or there were have been fewer teams. I learned a lesson to always look at what they have posted as the time limits now. It was beyond silly. Taits, the reason for the mat being bigger is not because pitchers can't hit it, reasoning is to give the pitcher a little more advantage by making the strike zone bigger. |
| Dec. 1, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes I would be ok with the 4-3 count except the time limits. The SSUSA tournament in Bridgeton MO last year had 50 minute time limits with a 4-3 count. I don't believe there was a complete game the entire tournament. 4-3 count with any shortened game does not make sense. |
| Nov. 19, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Phoenix Pretty good teams in the tournament. |
| Nov. 19, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Phoenix Thanks, I just spoke with one of the Barons players, they didn't do as well as they did in the nationals. Who beat you guys? |
| Nov. 19, 2012 cal50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Phoenix No we didn't play. Was wondering how you guys and the KC Barons did. |
