@Swing - definately try it when you can, I think you'll really enjoy the bat. I think we all understand using a bat because you've made an agreement is the right thing to do.

Yep, it's just us old guys....

The young guys don't have homerun rules, they don't whine when the ball is hit up the middle (never heard the line "the middle's open now"), they definately don't run out and buy a bat that they've seen someone using, and none of the bat manufactuers are developing new technology for the young guys to hit with. Not to mention that the young guys don't shave their bats so that they have a competitive edge and reach the fence.

Nope, none of that goes on with the young guys. They make their own bats, every single one of them. They're not hitting with someone elses R&D. Nope, they're all engineers.

It's just us insecure old guys that do that.

@Sloball1 - As long as there's competition then the limits will get pushed and participants will want to use the best equipment available. I guess it's just the nature of a competitive person.

And you're right, everyone seems to be concerned about how far the ball will go. Maybe they expect a person to draw a conclusion that if the ball goes far, then it will also get through the infield much quicker for those are base hitters.

And I have to say, it was almost nice to view the board before Mr. Negativity returned. Someone really needs to see a doctor and take care of their depression.

Congratulations to the OKI team on their 2nd consecutive SPA World Championship and TSC/Howard's Construction for their 2nd place finish. Both teams played very well and showed good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

It was also nice to see some new/old faces - Dale & Perkins.

Congratulations to the ENR bunch for their 50+ Major World Championship, another great bunch of guys.

Some how, the time went by too fast and I didn't really get a chance to get around to the other fields and see others play but maybe the next time around.

No, you can't drive that far but you've served up some HR's that have gone further then that.

And don't even get me started on your "bod". Last time you were over there you tried to have a pose off with a jelly fish. And the jelly fish won. Saw it on ESPN's worst 10 plays.

Discussion: Team Points

Taits,

You're absolutely correct, those that play more will earn more points and the team at the top doesn't necessarily mean they are the best. And at the same time, a team that happens to win a World Tournament doesn't necessarily mean they are the best, it could just mean they got hot, were very fortunate and the bounces went their way that weekend. I don't know if there is a sure fired way to crown a Champion.

But a team that gets out and plays and places in the majority of the tournaments they play in, will probably come out on top.

I guess the bottom line is - if you want to say home and win Yard of the Month, don't expect to be crowned as the points champion.

Thanks Swing, I appreciate that.

I hope that it gives teams and players the recognition they deserve. There are a lot of fine individuals playing Senior Softball and a little recognition will go a long way.

Taits, Swing & Omar,

You guys present a good case. I'm still cyphering on it and it's possible I'll use a few of the tournaments. I'll have to talk with the NCSSA to see what we can work out.

I'm going to do the same with the other associations (SPA, ISSA, etc) to see what kind of agreement we can reach. If I can get the results, I'll probably try to figure out which are the most popular tournaments (besides World, World Series & TOCs) and use them.

At some point, who knows, we may even crown a "points champion".

Just wait until I try to do a batting sheet with OB%. I'm sure that will create a stur.

Swing, Omar,

I went to the link provided by Swing earlier today and checked out NCSSA. I'll have to do some more checking.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm trying to only include tournaments that qualify you for a National/World/TOC/World Series. So far, the tournaments I have listed do that. That I saw the NCSSA tournaments don't.

I'll probably get beat up over that but I guess it goes with the territory.

Discussion: 50+ & 55+ Points

I have the points up for the 50+ and 55+. The points are totaled through the SSUSA California State Championship. I'll be working on the 60s, 70s and 80s this week but may not get them up.

If you see any errors please let me know so that I can check on them and fix them.

Thanks,

John

Discussion: Should SSUSA ever bump a team?

Mario, Donnie, both very good points. Just because a player plays on a Major+ team doesn't make them a Major+ player. Classifying a player Major+ has to be done carefully considering both their defensive and offensive capabilities.

Is the player a dominating force on a Major+ team or are they a very good player that contributes to a Major+ team.

Discussion: Should SSUSA ever bump a team?

If there wasn't a Major+ classificaiton, where would these players be? Sure, they may be scattered on different teams in the beginning but don't you think that they would eventually migrate to a good sponsor and still dominate that classification - whether it's AA, AAA, or Major?

Discussion: PLAYER RELEASE

Gary,

In most cases I can agree with you that a player leaving a team for another/better team is wrong. But I also feel that there are exceptions where leaving a team is justified - even though some people will be pissed off. A player leaving a team to play for another team in the same classification (Major+, Major, AAA, or AA) is wrong.

And I can agree with you that the reasons for a team changing their schedule have to be considered. But that leads us back to the same quesiton - who decides and what's the process?
