Discussion: New Combat Centenarian 10" barrel

I'll add a little history here for you guys who don't know whats going on with this thread. A few years ago when Kevin (Tattooball) was at Anaconda he came up with an idea for Bob Russell (AKA Bobby Buggs) to market a softball with the Evil Sports name. Bobby was becoming well known at the time as a bat doctor and at that time nothing was really wrong with being a bat doctor. Kevin developed the line and literally gave Bob a business. When Kevin left Anaconda he gave Bob the option of continuing on with the new company or with staying with Anaconda. Bob chose Anaconda but he was wary that his sales would decrease with the competition from Kevin's new ball, Tattoo. Bob began a campaign against Kevin on the softball fans board by making up new names on the board and posting negative unsolicited comments using a fictional moniker for softball fans posters. GOBOOM is another attempt by Bob to discredit Kevin. Bob does not live in Iowa, as GOBOOM claims, he lives in Massachusetts. Bob wants Kevins new bat to be discredited because he will be selling the second edition of the white Centurian with Anaconda.
I know all of this because I was in the same situation as Bob with regard to my ball the GURU. Kevin did the same for me as he did for Bob and when the move to Tattoo was made I chose to stay with Kevin, not Anaconda. Bob called me a few times trying to decide which was best for him, he chose to remain with Anaconda.

I started in senior softball 18 years ago and and have continually played major plus.We hit more home runs with the DiMarini double wall and .50 COR balls than we do today. We dont play because of the bats and as we get older we lose the ability to run, throw, and catch but lose little in the way of hitting.

I absolutely disagree with Einstein and 4x4. Testing different balls to see how they fly is perfect off of a tee. The swing is always the same and the only variable is the ball and watching how it flies will tell you the differnce in the balls. The temp of the balls is the same, the wind is the same and the bat is the same. You can change the bat and see the differences in the bat as well. With live pitching timing is part of the equation and you cannot be consistently the same like you can off of a tee.

This was our first major tournament win in quite a while. Tryhorn's bunch is always tough and we were luckly to squeeze out a win. We are really looking forward to the national tourneys later this summer.
Thanks Bob, see you in Dallas in a couple of days.

Discussion: Interference?

When a runner is tagged out, his body still has the right to exist. Its umpires judgement as to whether the runner interfered and is totally his discretion. You cannot protest, ball strike..out safe or interference obstruction.

Discussion: Baseball ruling?

Since we had a rules discussion, I'd like to ask this one, it happened in one of my grandsons baseball games.
Runner on first, no outs. Pitcher goes into the stretch and pauses, runner on first steals second and the pitcher doesnt flinch, he just continues his pause. The runner is now past second when the pitcher throws home. Batter lines out and throw goes back to first to complete a double play and the umpire calls the runner out. I dont think it was the right call but I am not sure. Since the runner was past second when the pitch was thrown, I think he only has to tag at second, which he did.

Fair or foul is always the position of the ball, never the position of the fielder.

Stick, This is a terrific rules question. My thinking is that the whole play evolves around the runner from third. As you described the play , I dont think the runner did anything wrong. He avoided a collision on his first pass by the plate and had an obligation to touch home and he had to do it before the second runner scored. You stated that he "accidently" bumped the catcher, this means that he didnt attempt to dislodge the ball, he just attempted to score. I say no interference and the play stands, both runners safe.

Discussion: Senior bats for Senior leagues

This past weekend I played NSA sanctioned senior tourney and we used senior bats and the 52 300 NSA Sanctioned ball. NSA can allow this combination. The ball traveled well. We are a 65 team and quite a few out on a 315 ft fence with wind blowing out. The ball definitely bounces higher and more infield defense. I liked it

Discussion: interference or not?

Interference is a call TOTALLY left up to the umpires judgement. The batters physical body has to exist and as long as he isnt doing anything wrong he shouldnt be called for interference. If the umpire rules interference, its interference and if not, its not interference. No protest is allowed and regardless of what actually happened, the umpires judgemet stands.

Discussion: Broken Ultra 2

Free agent,
There are two issues inregards to a bat's durability. Warranty is an issue that has to do with normal wear and usage. The UII has no warranty. However, when a bat breaks like you described it is a different issue. That bat was defective and ALL poducts including a non warranty bat have comsumer protection if the product was defective. When calling the company explain that you know the difference and that this bat was defective. They should replace it. LMK

Bob Lauria was certainly a great pitcher and pioneer of USSSA pitching style. Buddy Slater is the greatest of all time. He played senior ball with our SAWTRE team in 1996. He lives just outside San Antonio and was part of the Texas Connection, Bill Ferguson, Micke McCarty, Dick Bartel, Richard Willborn and Billy Blake, all from around San Antonio.
