Jack,

There are acouple of good 60 teams in SLC and maybe one or two 65 teams. Usually in the Spring they play at Cottonwood Complex and then the Valley Complex in the Fall. A couple of these teams go to the Huntsman games and one or two actually play SSUSA tournaments. BRL 60 just took second at the Spring worlds in St. George/Mesquite. If you live in Daybreak look up a guy named Jim Amicone, we have played together for years on different teams, he can give you a pretty good idea who to try and play with given your skill level. Jim also plays on a 60 Major SSUSA team called RYAN's Way.

Ron,

Thats all you need -- you swing so hard now its hard to imagine you hitting the ball any harder.

Come on Kennard, that may work for you guys that have forearms like popeye (or bigger in your case). Me i need both arms and both hands on the bat to get the ball to go 300'. When i do hit one that far its all about my timing and where i meet the ball. By keeping both hands on the bat it allows me to adjust mid stride and still hit the ball 300' to right center or right. Many ways to skin a cat just depends what works best for you. Whatever you use it still takes practice to make it work.

Take care

Webbie--

I've had the pleasure to play with four guys that i feel are the best (no disrespect to guys i haven't seen play).
In no special order:

Alan Dial
Billy Shields
Cliff Noble
Bert Hertzke

These guys are/were fearless: diving, covering the holes throwing from places other guys would not think of trying to make a play. The kind of players that the other team loves to watch play the game.

Discussion: What did you do in your last at bat?

Good topic Mark and it seems more important to me now that our team has shut it down for next year. Last tournament i played was the Worlds in Vegas: Last two games i was 4-4 against Hollis (world champions -- very good team and group of guys) and then 4-4 against i think Jim & Joes. Did not know at the time that those would be my last two games in Senior softball for awhile. I will miss the game and all the guys on our team and the friendships i have made. Hope everyone has a great holiday season, stay safe.

Clint,

Given our situation, i never took anything you said on these posts to imply that the Kids were giving up, so i personally feel you have no need for an apology. Over the last three years wheather in Major or Major Plus we just kept seeing you guys across the field from us. We never thought we were going to get anything but your best effort everytime. Like us it is what it is, lack of players to give us a larger roster and the fact that guys are hurt are the only things keeping us from still playing as a team next year. All i can say is hang in there, maybe we will see you guys again in 2014 or amybe the 65's which is still a few years away for me. Whenever it is we will battle again.

Discussion: How many active 60 Major Plus teams for 2013?

I just want to make someting very clear, we never ducked anyone (and we aren't now)and we always did our best when we stepped on the field. Our guys are very competetive and will never give up, even in the Major Plus classification. In my previous post i never once mentioned our being upset because we were getting beat all the time, i know we beat some good teams along the way when we put it all together. Its like this our shortstop has a bad arm and needs surgery, we have two outfielders that can barely run and i've got a bum knee which puts a lot of pressure on the other guys to run for us. Then when we are only able to show up at a tournament with ten guys you can imagine that by the 4th or 5th inning we are just toast. When you look at the teams that are successful they have 15 to 17 guys on the team which allows them to run and give guys a break in the field. We just haven't been able to get 15 to 17 guys that want to play Major Plus, spend the money, travel and maybe not do anything else but run or play defense for one inning. None of this bothered us much in the Major division since the innings were shorter (5 runs)and we could get off the field sooner and get rest. Anyway it is what it is and i'm grateful for the time i had playing with Master Collision. I wish all the other teams success next year and keep having a good time while we still can.

Mark,

Due to injuries and other factors, the guys that run our team decided to shut it down for next year. We were really not that happy as a Major Plus team. We are a good Major team but not even a good mid-range Major Plus. We will see if the team gets back together in 2014 but in the meantime guys will probably do what they can to hook up with other teams (if they choose to keep playing). Good luck next year, i've got a lot of friends on the team that you guys put together for next year so i hope everything goes well.

I also liked how a team could qualify for a national tournament back in the 70's and 80's. We had to win a state tournament and then a regional tournament to get to places like Jacksonville in the early 80's. By the way that was probably the greatest most fun tournament i remember playing in when i was younger, the competition was fantastic. It seems now that all you have to do is pick a qualifier close to home go o-5 and you can go to World's if they choose. That is the rules so we live with it. I would like to see maybe the top two in each division at a qualifier get to go to World's. This would make some teams go to more then one qualifier if needed in order to get in the top two. I do realize that this also may be tough on teams if the same teams always go to the same qualifiers, i would imagine that guidelines would need to be set up for the third place team if the same two teams go 1st and 2nd mutliple times. Just my thoughts, but in reality it is nice getting to see old friends and meet new guys at these large tournaments like World's.

Major Plus or AA it does not matter; these fields (Cheyene)were not that good. Some outfields had a trench that you had to step over or if you stepped in that area the ball might go over your head. On another diamond we played on there were holes under thick grass behind third base, very dangerous when you are looking up and back peddeling. Sprinkler heads right on the foul line (out of the ground) behind third base. I will give them this, overall i thought the infield dirt was in good shape.

Bathrooms were absolutly filthy and the water did not come on in the sinks, all toilets were very poor and ugly.

We got our butts kicked by some very good teams and i wish to congratulate all the winners. I was impressed with the energy and spirit that Hollis displayed every inning of every game.

I agree with Webbie and some of the others about playing the best competition. I for one am looking forward to playing Turn 2 in Vegas -- i know be careful what you ask for. I know that no matter what the final score may be in the National game we (Master Collision) will play hard. There are many other 60 major plus teams that will be in Vegas and any one of them can win on a given day -- D & K, MTC, GSF, KC Kids and Hollis. Just because a team is good they should not be forced to break up just because others are not wanting to play them. More power to them for putting together a great team, Turn 2 has been around for years and other teams have had plenty of time to gather players and give them a great game on the field, its a testament to them that they have been able to withstand all the challenges. Look forward to seeing everyone in Vegas next month.

Discussion: Western NATIONALS or qualifier format???

Got home late last night from Aurora - Western Nationals. First i want to say that the fields were great, the umpires did a good job overall and the weather was hot.

Now about the format -- i'm still confused about how this tournament was set up. We Master Collision (60 Major Plus) played the two 55 Major teams 4 out of the 5 games we played, in pool play we did play KC Kids once (with our team winning). Due to seeding both of our games on Saturday (bracket play)were against two very good 55 Major teams and to the credit of our team we were able to win both which made us the only undefeated team in the combo bracket. On Sunday GSF (60 Major Plus) and KC Kids (60 Major Plus) played in the morning with KC Kids winning, they then had to play the NorCal Reds (55 Major). The Reds won that game, setting up a meaningless championship game between two teams that had already won berths in their respective National Championship game. We went all through bracket play and never played another 60 Major Plus team.

Congratulations to the NorCal Reds for getting the 55 Major berth.

We can't do anything about the tournament now. I would suggest that next year if the same number of teams show up you (SSUSA) set up small individual bracket play with the different age divisions.

It was great seeing everyone again and to my friends on GSF i'm disappointed we did not get to play you in the tournament.

To my team Master Collision -- GREAT job.

Mark,

I actually live in Salt Lake City. I'm sure it will be hot and the altitude will affect some but if everyone drinks plenty of water and sits down and rests when you have a chance then everything should be ok. If you have other health issues that could be affected by the altitude then see your doctor before coming. I remember reading last year ( i think it was a Pittsburg Steeler player) was told not to go to Denver for the playoff game due to a heart condition. Anyway i think everyone will have a great time, the fields are good and i'm sure the staff will do everything they can to make sure all the players and fans are safe.

Glad to see you guys played well in Dalton, looks like we will have our hands full just trying to keep up with you.

How come KC Kids and D&K got to play in the Major division instead of Major +?? just curious.
