Discussion: Has anyone used a Unloader One brace

Softballer, i've had one since 2005 and it works great. I have bone on bone on my right knee and i can not run without the brace. It allows me to still play with no pain. My left knee is now starting to hurt so i may look into another one.

Well Jim i see you are still kicking. I agree it would not take much to run faster then either of us but thats why i hit it so far -- so i do not have to run fast. Hope you are going to be able to play again this summer, looking forward to playing in all three age groups again. That was fun last year playing two or three games each night.

See you soon

GJack, (i play for one of those Colorado teams mentioned by Scrappy6)what position do you play? are you just a league player or do you still play tournaments? I play for a 60's Major travel team but play league in Salt Lake City. Our team is looking for an additional outfielder for the up coming season that can still run and hit.

Discussion: How Important of a Stat is Batting Average?

I think this is a great thread and i think the comments are very good but i really disagree with the comments regarding the outfield against the infield. I always have felt that everyone is trying to do their best when we take the field. I do play the infield and i feel as bad as anyone when i miss a ball that i felt i should have had. But just because i miss a grounder or an outfielder can't get to a fly ball that person should not be kept off an all tourney team if they are trying to do their best. Its important to note that sometimes people play out of their normal position if its the best for the team. I believe the one area that is most important to me is a persons attitude in the dugout and on the field. I do not care how good someone bats; if they are always complaining about another player in the field or the dugout they do not deserve anything because all that does is hurt the team. Example ME: i had a good tournament early last year but late in the championship game we had a situation come up and i disagreed with the manager regarding a defensive switch. I was upset and others could see that i was upset. well the switch to five infielders ended up winning us the Championship. Even though i got alot of the key hits, made some defensive plays and hit the homerun that tied the championship game in the last of the 7th. I did not make the all tournament team. I had a talk with the manager later and he explained his decision. I agreed with him and we moved on, our team won a lot of tournaments last year and I feel its because we got along and learned to trust and support each other during the course of a game.

Discussion: February Tournament of Champions Polk County

I know its all about the money to the powers that be but they really need to look at the rosters of teams in the TOC. If a team is coming with players they did not use when they qualified then maybe they should bump them up a division. Is it really fair to teams that do bring the correct roster to play against teams that may all of a sudden be an ALL STAR team. I will play against whomever shows up but it looks like others feel as i do based on the comments on this thread.

Birdie/Andy,
Sad to see that your teams will not be going to the TOC. We Master Collision were looking forward to playing both of you again. I agree with everyone else that this tournament should be in November at the latest; qualifing teams are still together and playing at a high level. I thought that was what this tournament was all about. It should not consist of partial teams getting to pick up other players just to have enough to play, it is supposed to be only players that were on the qualified roster at the time they won a tournament. When i saw the teams that were coming i was really excited, now i'm not sure if the teams that show up will be the same guys we played against during the summer. This would all go away if the tournament was in November. Anyway, i'm looking forward to getting out of this cold weather (hope Florida is warmer)in acouple of months and playing softball again against whoever decides to show up and have some fun.

Discussion: How did you get your start in softball?

After college i played 2 years of baseball and then one year of fastpitch (got bored standing around). Started playing slowpitch in the early 70's til 1988 when i stopped playing. Ran into a friend coming back from the Vegas Worlds and he told me about Senior Softball. Started playing Senior ball in 2005, its great still running into guys i played with or against in the 70's and 80's. Can't say enough about how much fun this game is.

Mad dog,
To be honest i like the pitch up alittle so i have a better chance of getting the bottom part of the ball. Anyone that knows me is aware that when i do hit a home run most of the time it goes very high. On lower pitches my right hand tends to come over the top and i tend to hit only line drives and ground balls. That is not a bad thing unless you are really trying to hit one out. When i talked earlier about balance i was talking about keeping your hands back and not get out in front to early. Even if your lower body moves early you can still put a good swing on the ball if your upper body and head stay quiet. I do not use a tee, i have never been one to hit a stationary target. I would rather just invision the ball arc and take practice swings if i'm not actually taking batting practice.
This is a good thread Mad dog, i will keep looking for other comments so i can see what works for others.

Mad dog,
The key for me hitting home runs is two fold --- balance and confidence. I'm not a big guy but i have the confidence to know that i can hit one if i need to at any time. I try to always get set at the plate the same way everytime and then make adjustments based on how i'm being pitched to. The bats do not make much difference for me i've used Ultra's and combat's (have not tried the Reebok yet). I also like to hit with power to all fields which makes the pitcher not sure where to pitch the ball. With the ball's we use now adays you do not have to get all wound up and swing hard, you just need to make good contact and the ball will fly. One other thing that usually helps----practice, practice, practice. I would like to see other people's thoughts, this is just what works for me.

Discussion: Major Plus

Harry, congratulations on winning the Winter Nationals in Florida. It was great getting to know you guys and play against you in Phoenix at the World Championships. Your win just shows that we were somehow able to beat a very good team when we played you. Good luck next year.

Discussion: What a way to go out!

Andy,

Your right - what a way to go out. Your team played great in Phoenix and deserved that championshp. It's a tough decision to break up but i understand the thinking behind that decision. I also play with a great bunch of guys on Master Collision and it would not be an easy decision to make if we were in your position. I believe you took that decision out of the equation by kicking our rearends in Phoenix. We had three guys over 65 on our team this year and two pushing 70, i'm not sure they would want to play Major Plus if we were in your position. Good luck in whatever direction you go next year, i would like to say it was always a pleasure playing your team this year but it wasen't -- you guys were tough.
