Discussion: New to Florida

Thanks Bruce. Been playing over at Exchange in a very competitive Tuesday night league. Almost all the guys are a fair bit younger. At least at this very early point, not found many competitive 70s teams in this area. Thought I might see what else was out there.

Discussion: New to Florida

This may be a shade early for 2016. Just retired to the Pensacola area. Played for Scrap Iron Legacy from Colorado last year, Major Plus in SSUSA, Major in SPA, 70+. Looking for a new team in this region. Decent speed, fair glove, good power, good ave. 5'11", 200 lbs. not much fat. Looking for the right team. Legacy was great experience. Ron at 316-6559648. Discussion: Hitting Before Games in Vegas

There are soccer fields just to the right of the complex. Usually a place to hit there. Some of the fields are rather irregular (hilly), but a place to hit nonetheless.

Discussion: Miken Big Cat

I'm on my second Big Cat endload. The first cracked earlier this season. I really like this bat. It seems to fit my swing better than most that I have used. If you have some power, and hit it on the screws, it will indeed fly.

Wait a couple weeks after the worlds in Vegas. The home office will be ready for you at that time.

Discussion: Team "Rankings"

I think this is a great idea. However, going from a great idea to actual reality is another story. It would have to be fairly objective. A lot of stats would have to be collected by the SSUSA staff, then fed into a computer to select the ratings. They probably would have to increase the staff to accommodate this information. I think the interest to attend certain tournys would go both ways. Some teams want to play the best in their division, some sandbag. In the end however, the best teams in each division are going to play each other. I agree it would be of interest to see which teams are doing what during the season.

Discussion: Which Sports Do More Americans Participate In?

I would agree with Nancy and Hombre. It is a "boomer sport". In Florida and the west coast, the participation is pretty high among seniors. Many former players are now doing other things with children and grandchildren instead of playing. In addition, many complexes now devote more tournaments to the girls fastpitch game because it is more lucrative. Tournament directors have told me that the girls fastpitch tournaments generate far more revenue than a senior tournament. More teams, more things bought by parents and grandparents. I do not think that the "hot senior bats" is contributing to any sort of decline in the game. Quite the contrary actually. I think the participation would be less if we had, say ASA bats. However, I would gladly go back to the double walls and 47/520 super blue dots.

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the thread. What exactly is the "snow bird" rule and how does it work.

Discussion: Changing states

I can't seem to find the answer to this in the rule book. I understand the bordering state rule, however, what if I moved from the Midwest to Florida during the middle of the year. Would I be required to only play with a team from Florida and the surrounding states from that day forward, or could I continue to play with my old team from the Midwest? What about next year? I'm on a major plus team, if that makes a difference.

I like Lite Tanels.Get them about a half size larger than your regular shoe size. Get a good pair of inserts, and you should be good to go. I bought mine at Reno last year. If you are going to that tournament, stop by their display and try some on.

Discussion: THE "HOT BALL" DILEMA

Doerbaum, you bring up an interesting topic that has been debated many times on this board. The composite bats of today, and the 44-375 balls that we now use. As compared with the aluminum bats of yesteryear and the balls that were used then. The 47-525 Red Dots or the Super Blues that were used as late as 2005 or so, were golf balls. The Demarini double walls were a technological breakthrough similar to what the composites of today have been, except they were aluminum. As a result, the balls were dumbed down to the 44-375s that we have today. I would gladly go back to the double walls and the balls that we used then. The longest shots I have hit, or seen hit, were with that combination.

Would it be possible to add a "hot link" to these tutorials. It would make it a lot easier to navigate.

Discussion: Perl and the guys from Pensacola

I will be visiting my daughter again this year in Pensacola. I hit with you guys last year at Exchange Park. Do you folks have a pickup game at the same place this year? I will be there the week of May 11. Great tune up for Reno. There was also a tournament that weekend last year. Don't know if that is a possibility, but would be interested. I play 70 major. Regards, Ron

You could always do what I did. I gave Big Mike and the Wounded Warriors an original Freak and a Synergy Plus. You then could write it off as a charitable contribution. Just an option.

Well it looks as if we have been moved from Hunter to Pioneer park in Mesquite. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is there also a baseball field that will be utilized there?

Discussion: Required Face Masks

Pitchers, and other infielders should wear appropriate protection. I may be in the minority here, but I like the game as is. It supposed to be somewhat dangerous. If you ask the average Joe what slowpitch softball is about, he will tell you it's a game played by girls, or overweight guys that are drunk. This is a game, at least in tournaments, that is played with very good athletes with skills that have been honed over many years. Most of us accept the fact, and actually like, that the ball is going to be hit over 100 mph. Wear good protection.
