Discussion: Rules question. Happened at Huntsman

I stand corrected Stick, thank you and it will be called correctly from now on. I was trained wrong and I have been doing this the same way for 20 ears and never got a complaint about it? I guess if you sell something that sounds right or close to right it works? In your scenario you were scheduled to hit and I was following you and Wayne after me and I for some reason hit in your place. You would be out and I would hit again? I like mine better that I would be out and you would hit next? But a rule is a rule. Thank you for correcting me and it will be called right from now on.

Problem is Stick is that hitting the foul pole is like hitting the foul line as long as the ball hits it it is fair? The other solution you had in your previous post is incorrect because you are penalizing the offensive team twice. If a player bats out of order and a team picks up on it after the illegal player hits the illegal player is out and the batter who was supposed to be at bat gets in the box with one out. If it is caught before the batter hits the ball it is a no harm no foul and the correct batter is placed in the box with the count the illegal batter had on him. I believe you can lok that up anywhere abd it wil be the same. I am actually a USSSA umpire and that is what I have been trained. I actually go to a lot of tournaments and ask different umpires questions and get a lot of great info in doing so. I also coach a 60 AAA team in SSUSA and sometimes it stinks that I know the rules and some umpires don't and are there just for the money. That is why I speak so much praise for Tommy from CA because he umpires like I do and I applause that. Plus he knows the rules also. Thanks for listening while I rant...

I understand it happens. Think about who is getting short end not SSUSA the players do. So, if that happened n the EAST coast I would jump in and help out for our brothers the players? No?

Then they should poll all the local guys first and then only bring enough out of town umps to fill the roster and be able to do all the games. Then maybe the LV umps could lose their egos and do the games when the director gets in a bind?

Same scenario for both the person that batted out of order is out and the right person gets up to the plate. If there are two outs then the inning is over and the person that was supposed to bat in that situation leads of the next inning.

Shanev how would I go about umpiring at one of the World tournaments or any tournament for that matter. How are you by the way?

You basically walked two batters one at a time so both should touch first base and if he doesn't he should be called out.

AS long as the defensive team doesn't leave the field all three runners can be appealed. The only time the run would not score is if the runner that was appealed is the actual runner that scored and was called out. Then no run. Two outs and the runner at third was appealed and called out no run scores. If any of the other runners were called out the run would still score because of the timing issue. Hope this helps?

Discussion: Vegas Umpires

Evidently you didn't read my post TD. He was there and we were lucky to have him for two of our games. He is one of the best umpires we have had all year. Kind of like myself when I umpire. LOL All kidding aside he is a great umpire and we have had him in both of the Worlds we have been to in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Good job Tommy.

Discussion: Vegas Umpires

Mark we had 2 this year in the EAST/WEST game. One went over the fence fair and landed about 3 ft foul and the umpire called it foul. Even the third baseman said it was fair. Believe it or not the other one hit the foul pole and again he called it foul. We got him to check with the other umpire finally and they got the right call on that one he changed to fair because the base umpire knew it hit the pole 3 ft over the chain link. I have to admit we had some umpires that were definitely there just for the money but we had a couple of great umpires one from CA and his name was Tommy and he did one of our bracket games by himself and he was all over the field. I remember him from the Worlds in 2011 in Phoenix and he was great then too. So I guess there are trade offs, some are good and some are a little less than good.

The call is OUT on the appeal and the runs scored before the appeal submitted. Both runs score.

Discussion: Las Vegas Schedule

I can't believe someone is busting Dave on getting the schedule out. He is one person and trying to get 486 teams scheduled is not a walk in the park if you have ever done it? Give the guy a break the deadline for money was Friday and if you have noticed teams are still dropping and entering as we speak. That changes everything when teams do that. He definitely has his hands full.

I believe the flip flop rule is mandatory in the elimination round. The new home team stays the home team rest of the game otherwise one team would have to bat twice in a row again to switch back?

Arizona Charlies does not charge a resort fee and the rooms are 32 and 62 + tax per night. Stayed there last year close to all complexes and not bad place. Food is outstanding in the hotel. Last year included a breakfast but this year not available not sure why. Not a bad place though.

Discussion: You Make The Call II

The ball goes out of play in front of both first and third it is a foul ball because it never passed the bags. Just from an umpire (30) years experience. If the ball hits first or third it is a fair ball and ground rule double. If it hits the runner standing on either bag and goes out of play it is a ground rule double also. However, if it hits the mound and bounces back toward the plate or off to the side as long as it doesn't pass either bag it is a foul ball.

Discussion: SSUSA Player Hannington/ Bay State Bombers 55 Bill Curry Dies in Ireland

Thank you Bernie, Bill had a great time in PA and was looking to go back again. He talked about how much fun he had and what a great tournament to play in for us. He was a great person and an even better player and teammate. He WILL be sorely missed but definitely not forgotten. Thanks again Bernie well appreciated....
