Nov. 1, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups JR, my roster has been somewhat the same since 2011 minus a few players that are not 60 yet so not sure where you were going with that. The reason you should have been a Maj team is you had 6-8 major players on your roster. I know of six off the top of my head 3b,ss,p,c,lf and lc. Three of who played 55M for Roncones in Syracuse that weekend, a couple who play for EPA Financial (65M+ ?), and the others we didn't see till Sunday. However that is water under the bridge I agree with you on your situation and your venue problem. There has to be better communication on venues and rosters from Sacramento. JMO |
Oct. 30, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups Jr would those 55 subs you talked about be the 5 guys you brought in on Sunday to play in the finals at the Northeast Championships in Syracuse and beat Hanningtons in the finals of the winners bracket 19-7 and 15-14 in the final game? |
Oct. 30, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups The biggest problem I have with this is there are no 60M teams to play on the East Coast. 2 teams in Loudon, 2 teams in Syracuse and 1 in Raleigh? Good enough reason not to move? Or just go play ISSA where they have more teams? |
Oct. 29, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups Hector yes we did what you said. We won is 2011 and we were 1-24 in 5 tournaments in 2012. So we petitioned to move back to 55AAA last year and then moved to 60AAA this year. |
Oct. 29, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups Lee again I didn't know you got moved after one tourney and yes we are Hannington's. We actually played 10 games in LV and yes we lost both games by one run. Sunshine we got to play in the National game because we got beat by Hamels in Raleigh 11-0 in the final and Hamels didn't go to LV so SSUSA extended the option to us because we went to LV. All I was trying to get at in this post was the criteria for move up is supposed to be differential of 5.0 or mre and we were at 5.4. So I was saying there shoud be more data to warrant the move up. In the past teams have been moved because they use all their homeruns in every game and even hit some for outs which we weren't even close to that. So, basically for the sake of 1/2 a run per game we are getting moved up when we clearly had a great weekend hitting? Sunshine I was looking at Pope Transport and their scores and you are correct we are going from an age and skill bracket 60AAA to MJ where there are no teams on the East. There were 2 in Loudon 1 in Raleigh and 2 in Syracuse for the three top tourneys in the East. In those tourneys the 60 M teams played in the 55 AAA bracket which we left because we had aged up? |
Oct. 28, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups LEE we didn't win 27 games that was the total games we played this year. We played in 5 tournaments and won two of them so we lost our share, The 5.4 is a sample of the games we won doesn't count the games we lost. We actually lost the Eastern Nationals 11-0 to a pretty good team. We won a local qualifier and the Atlantic Championships in Loudon, VA. Can't say we had a bad year but it sounds like we are being moved because of one tournament. You know you can get hot in one weekend and we did? Hot goalies win Stanley Cups and we just got hot at the right time and now we are going to pay for it? |
Oct. 28, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups The thing is Don and you should know this that as you move up the homerun is a bigger part of the game. Why else do they give you more of them. Usually because you are exceeding your limit in the AAA? The thing is that we moved up three years ago in the 55s and lost every game but 1 the following year. We went to the worlds and got beat by 10-20 runs in every game. We were asked what we were doing there because we couldn't compete. We still have pretty much same team minus a couple because we moved to 60s this year and they weren't old enough? Whats to say we will have the same team. We already have 4 guys moving to 65 next year? There were teams this year in the Worlds that were scoring 30-44 runs in the 60M and you can't tell me those were scored with singles and doubles? I guess I just don't see how 5.4 run differential is enough to move a team up without something else as a guideline? |
Oct. 28, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups SSUSA, so you are basing the move up on 1 tournament the Worlds. I was considering the whole year and the 27 games that were played. I would think that the percentage of homeruns that were hit at less than 1 per game would factor also? In order to move to the Majors there are more homeruns and more power which was not demonstrated in 27 games. JMO |
Oct. 28, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Team move-ups If a team averages 5.4 run differential for a total of 27 games in the 2014 year and less that 1 homerun per game in the same number of games is this enough data to move a team up that doesn't win the Worlds? I understand that the going number is 5.0 runs per game differential however for the sake of .4 runs per game and less than 1 homerun used per game enough to move a team up to the next skill level? Maybe the team had a great hitting Worlds and gets punished for doing so? What say ya'll? |
Oct. 19, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: USA Championship seeding game But what I am saying is that the seeding 1 and 2 doesn't really give a big advantage and besides when talking about the women there were on 17 total teams in the womens bracket all ages combined as opposed to any mens bracket with 20 or more in it? All I was eluding to is that getting that perk for playing and Winning the Eastern or Western Nationals is kind of another little trump card like the berth to the TOC for doing so. This is only the second year this has been offered and I believe it is a good thing and might catch on and make the National tournaments a great venue with extra perks for winning. Good job SSUSA! |
Oct. 19, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: USA Championship seeding game Dbax, in the 60AAA the number 1 seed got a 9:00 AM Sat instead of a 5:00 PM game Friday. There were 33 teams so it wasn't like anyone got a bye or anything. The seeds are just a number and determines when you play your first game is all. But it is a great perk if you play in the Easterns or Westerns to know you have either the 1 or 2 seed just by play AND WINNING. We have no control over who attends but it is a great tournament on the East coast. There was 6 teams in the East and there was also a lot of rain but we go to this tournament every year and it just so happens this is probably the best venue on the East Coast for Senior Softball. The complex is great and it is usually run meticulously. We ended up with the number 1 seed and played a great Minnesota team in our first game which was the 33 seed. There was no bargain by getting the number 1 seed except playing Sat morning instead of Friday evening. We didn't gain anything by playing the 33 seed cause they were a very good team that maybe had a tough Friday? So this thread is right that this perk was probably set up to attract more teams to the Eastern and Western tournament but I think it is a nice perk to get it and also a trip to the TOC. Well done SSUSA we believe this is a good thing. I think I might have brought this up a couple of years back on a post anyway. |
Aug. 29, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: You Make the Call - Infield Fly Correct call stick8. Should have been batter is out and runners are on second and third advancing at their own risk. |
Aug. 29, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Thrown Ball The on deck batter has the right to be on the field as well as the umpire and base coaches. If any of those get hit it is a live ball and if the ball goes out of play after that then it is a dead ball and the umpire awards bases at the time of the release of the throw. If a ball hits an umpire he is part of the playing field so it is live unless it goes out of the field of play after hitting him. |
Aug. 18, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Strangest play I have ever seen If the umpire made the out call at any base and it was a force out no runs can score. The deciding factor is that the 3rd out was a force out. No question in previous post once the out at first is recorded all runs are scratched. Good call by umpire. |
Aug. 18, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: New to Boston area - seek 55 or 60 AAA / major team email me at paul0784@aol.com we have a pretty descent 60AAA team out of Mass and RI and could always use a pitcher. |
Aug. 11, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: EASTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP If the team that wins in the Eastern Nationals doesn't go to the Worlds does the second place team get the opportunity to represent the East at the Worlds? |
Aug. 11, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: EASTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP I also played in the tournament and the only question I have is when we got caught up why didn't we go back to seven innings. Our finals went off at the posted time and we only played five innings still? Not sure on that one? |
June 5, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: One base or two? As a USSSA umpire and a runner on first base. If a line drive is hit to an infielder and he tries to throw the runner out at first base and over throws. In USSSA you get the base you are going to plus 1. We say that the runner has to retouch first so that is one and then he gets second for two. In ASA he would get third because he had first at the time of the pitch. In either case it is still 2 bases on the over throw... |
May 22, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SPA drops the ball. We try to use Southwest most of the time because you can cancel and use the money within a year with no penalty. |
April 14, 2014 paul0784 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Raleigh, NC Qualifier May 2nd. 2014 However, if you win Raleigh you automatically get either 1 or 2 seed in Vegas for the Worlds. |
