Miken Ultra 2 piece Maxload. She gone
I guess I just don't have any luck with Mikens. Just took less than 80 swings and she was gone. The sound of the bat changed at about 60 but still wasn't performing like the combat dirty so I hit a few more with the maxload 2 piece and the ball did one of them famious curve balls and she was gone. I watch the Mike Kelly video of the mike 2 piece and they were hitting well over 200 swings with it using the same balls I was using. Well I guess I'll just stick to combat and reebok. I'm not that big of a guy. 5ft8". 185lbs. Must be the steroids.

Still sick that it broke. Just got it wed. Hit with it a little sat. and she was gone by sun. temp. was between 65 and 70. Balls were good to go with breaking in a bat. Just have bad luck with Mikens. See you in Cartersville.

Lefty, sorry to hear your story. However, it reminded me of a post from Tri18 on 8/7/12 on how to break in senior bats. I know we all want to see what our new bats can do right away, but perhaps Alan's advice might have helped your bat last.
In any event, this was Alan's post verbatim:

Hey guys,
Since bats are hitting the field and I have received a lot of communication I would like to go over suggested break in for the Ambush (or any senior bat)...

Use 44 cor 375 balls.

Round 1. Take 25 swings at app. 50% swing effort rotating the bat slightly in between each swing
Round 2. Take 25 swings at app. 75% swing effort rotating the bat slightly in between each swing.
Round 3. Take 25 swings starting around 75% swing effort gradually increasing in swing intensity until your last 15 swings are at game swing speed.

By doing this you will increase both the bats life and potential for higher performance down the road. It is not recommended for ANY senior bat to use balls other than this unless it is the new .52 ball. Doing so will dramatically DECREASE the life expectancy of the bat. Try and not to use wet balls during practice bp sessions and continually rotate your bat each time you swing it. Best of luck to all of you and feel free to contact me about any senior bat.

I guess you super stars think everyone else but ya'll know how to break bats in. I've got 15 other senior bats that hit well. Just cause I recieved a lemon is not might fault. I don't need Alan to tell me how to break in a softball bat. Just remember you can buy 2 mikens and hit them the same amount of times an one may hit great and the other not so good.

Mikes has been very good replacing bats that break within a month if you have a receipt. You should definitely send it back.

I have just sent back an Ambush that cracked with less than 100 swings. Hoping it gets replaced.

See you next week in Cartersville

Go to "Miken Sports" website. Go to the warranty tab, fill out and they will send you an RA number. They will honor a receipt from D2E.

They should replace the bat with the same model.

Lefy, I am very sorry you interpreted my post as
taking a shot at you. I didn't intend that and apologize if it came off that way. My purpose was not to address your situation but to restate the general rules for breaking in a new senior bat.
I posted this because I often see guys bringing a new bat to practice with temperature in the 50's and telling the hardest hitter on the team to break it in. My purpose was to inform the rec players (of whom I am one) and guys new to slowpitch about 1 generally accepted method to break in a new bat. Again, I am sorry if you thought I was taking demeaning or discrediting you.

Glad to hear Miken is replacing your bat.

The Combat Ambush I sent back was not replaced. Combat said the bat wasn't busted. Twenty swings later it was totally gone. I know some people like the Ambush, NOT ME !!!!!!

See you in Mobile.
