SPA...Pull the plug on Springfield
It's time to pull the plug on approving tournament play in Springfield under the same Director. Four years ago the tournament was a disaster when the Director allowed players to switch teams during the event. This was at the amazement of teams with players as far away as Iowa. They said they wouldn't come back and they have not returned. Many other players agreed with the Iowa team.

Even though last year's event didn't attract a lot of teams, there weren't any surprises and the officiating was adequate. Now at 9 days before the event, the Director decided to delay the start of the 60+ group by ONE day. He is out of compliance with SPA rules. This does not fall under the inclement weather rule. The dates have been on the SPA website for months as May 17 and 18 and they are still there tonight, but he is calling teams this evening to inform them of the change. Why? According to his voice message, because a team asked him to make a change. What about the other teams with members who have already taken off work and booked travel and lodging arrangements? This is very poor tournament management and the Director has no idea of the financial impact that a well planned tournament can benefit or ruin a community.

I'm cancelling my lodging, flights, and rental car tonight. Good luck, Springfield!

If you are referring to the SPA tournament in Springfield, MO,

Last year I entered my 55 major team in the tournament. There were only four 55+ teams entered (2 major and 2 AAA). My team played both of the AAA teams twice (spotting 5 runs each game) and never got to play the other major team. Fool me once and that's all it takes. I will not go back.

No justification for what you guys are going through, I would probably react the same way. But just to set the record straight...this is only the second year SPA has run the Springfield tournament.

Don't know who had it the years prior to it.
