MTC 50 major plus is looking at the Western National...

It really depends on if Nazarino, the Legends or Arizona elites are in it..... Ebo, GSC and us can play each other every other weekend if we want...for $280-300 and not mis work on Friday.

AZ Elite is trying. Pretty expensive weekend with flights, rooms, and SS tourney fees. We're hoping NW Legends come down and all the Cal teams are there. I'll be monitoring this thread.

Was wondering why MTC 50 Major+ didn't show up in Reno, you had teams that flew in from out of state. It's only a 3 hour drive for most of your team yes?

Our team gets together at the beginning of the year and votes on our schedule.

As far as Reno goes. We usually vote to skip it.

I voted not to go this year...my reasons/considerations

1) entry fee costs...very high
2) have to take off work Friday
3) we can play against good comp in NorCal almost any time want
4) rock and roll was on memorial day weekend...kinda hard to sell playing softball for three day holiday weekend to my wife..even if I ever wanted to play...
5) hotel costs
6) some of our guys play on the MTC 55 team and it allowed them to play in Reno if they wanted with out any conflicts.

In the end....I guess we are spoiled in norcal....with a strong 40 and NCSSA 50 program us 50s guys can get as much softball as we want in our back hard.

We have the western SSUSA on our schedule but unless Arizona, Northwest and Nazarino are coming its real hard to see why we should fork out the steep entry fee costs and take off work on Friday...

I have not heard if Nazarino or the northwest legends are going to be there and it's sounding like Arizona Elite is out...so....its not to enticing to go play in a three or four team event when three of the teams are from our backyard.

Just heard a RUMOR East Bay Oldies was reclassed down to Major...

Can SSUSA staff confirm?

If this is true???? One less Plus team for cal cup and western national...

Not saying its right or wrong for them to be reclassed.... If true....Let's save that for another thread.

It is posted in the ratings that they are now major, not a rumor. I remember playing them years ago in the 40 & older tournaments but have not ran into them for over 10 years. Were always a good group of guys.

Well Rated athletics was coming to both, but after forming a new team for the 2013 season & playing in only 3 events for SSUSA we have been MOVED from 50 majors to major + thus we too will not be spending our $$$ for a 2-3 team tournments, therefore we will withdraw from the Cal Cup & Western Nationals....See you guys in the one & only good tourament, VEGAS BABY!!!!!

I guess SSUSA should really look at the Major+ program, they really don't get enough teams in a majority of their tournaments, take this year for example. No Major+ in Spring Worlds, 2 teams in Southwest Championships and 4 in Rock 'n Reno! Pretty sad in the end. I think they should just combine the Major+ and Major teams and just make ONE program called Major.

8 HR's per game
6 runs per inning
after HR's are done they are walks
bottom line more teams in a single division and makes it worth while to travel and spend the money, including taking time off work.

Major plus...once again....is in need of changes.

I'd support all associations going back five years and not allowing more then SIX plus Champions on the same PLUS roster till they start playing in the next age group.

Then maybe some of the bumped team would stick around.

Tim,
I am constantly amazed by your complete lack of logic and consistency without any shame or embarrassment. Maybe you just don’t pay attention to yourself. You have two posts in this thread 1) where you say you would go to Cal Cup IF Northwest Legends were to show up 2) A second post where you suggest you cant support any tournament organization that allows defending champs to stay intact and participate (that would be…. the Northwest Legends) Do you want them to show or not? Are they keeping you from participating if they show up… or if they don’t show up!!!!
Unbelievable!!!! You are a one man Saturday Night Live skit! Thanks for the entertainment!

Tim,

NW Legends & AZ Elite are not as Fortunate as you guys in NorCal. We are pretty much Outta Luck playing in town, so we have to Travel to Play in mixed Age Groups. Yea! I can't speak for NW Legends, but I'd guess it's much of the same for them up in the Great Northwest ? ? ?

We had a few Very Good Games with NW Legends in Las Vegas, but it was just our 2 50M+ Teams. We are able to Drive there, but I'm fairly certain NW Legends flew into Las Vegas.

Given the updates in this thread, it's looking pretty much like it just may be 2 NorCal 50M+ Teams Playing in Sacramento for the Western National Title!? Very Unfortunate that we may not be able to Defend our National Title based on Costs!? If this is the Future of the M+ Divisions, maybe SSUSA needs to look at using a Point System for Participating Teams, versus a single Tournament location to determine the East -v- West National Title!? Hey Timmy, are you & Rev Conspiring with the Home Office ! ? ! ?

Jeff...I'll let you in on a little secret... Winning the western national plus isn't that big of a deal to begin with.

I heard a senior talking about going after the triple crown.

I asked him what it was?

He said its winning the western national, being the winner at Worlds over the Eastern Champ and winning Worlds.

I laughted out loud....why?

Because my first year in 50s our team won western worlds
By being the only plus team to show up.

Then we went to Worlds and the Eastern champ did not fly out to PHX to play us (probably because of inTIMidation) so we won two legs of the "triple crown" and never played another team.

Oh yah...I almost forgot the best part... Out teams record over the two years in Plus was 1-12 against other Plus teams so we were allowed to reclass down the Major the following year.

As for this years event up here....if its two teams why even play? Revs team and us could rent our own park have a best 2 out of 3 then take the money left over from. It paying the SSUSA entry fee and all go out to a prime rib dinner

Donll,

I'll do Most of this by bullet points so it might be easier for you to follow...

1) we are not going to the call cup so your point number one is wrong

2) I never said the legends coming was THE deciding factor. Maybe you should pay a little more attention...

3) somehow in your world, my saying I think it would be healthier for senior softball if a certain number of Plus Champions (id say 6 or 7) can only be on the same Plus roster until they get to the next age group means I will not support senior softball... That's a crazy jump in logic to me.

4) as for the Legends (congrats to them for winning.i and around 3.4 million others in America didnt know they were World champs)or any other Plus Champion team goes....I could really care less how they feel....What I believe is it should be obvious to everyone what's being tried in Plus ball is not working.

I say it's because most Major teams do not believe they can compete when they get bumped...

Now...when a AAA team gets moved to Major they already know that any dynasty Major team gets bumped or can only return with three players...

That seems to be working pretty well when it comes to AAA teams excepting the challenge/bump.

I am doing nothing more then saying senior softball should institute one of their current rules working else where....Except I'd change the number from 3 to six or seven.

So now Don....why are you scared to have any Champion team weakened a little in an attempt to grow plus in a much healthier direction?

Please, if you do answer this post??? Use language I can understand and simplify your logic to my low level brain waves...

Oh, and one more thing... If you think I am funny on the net... You should see me try to field or run the bases;-)

I just wanted to get an idea of who is coming to the two tournaments. How about starting a different discussion topic to discuss your personal beliefs about the state of the SSUSA. I dont want to have to read through all this other bs to figure out simply who is coming to the tournaments.

Biggie...it looks like you got all the info your going to get...if you are looking for more info maybe you can list individual teams for a clearer answer.

Internet threads tend to evolve from the original question...either try to bring it back if your still looking for info by being more direct to individual teams or go with it.

It looks like your a 55 guy...what's the reasoning for asking about the 50s....it kinda looks like the 55s are leaving you in the dark.

Maybe single out teams hoping to find your answers....

Your view of what's bs is interesting...

sorry, if i was one of your "bs" posts....

I was trying to address a major reason for why so few 50 plus teams are playing...

I am sorry if that was outside your questions scope...maybe next time be a little more clear of what your asking...if you didn't want the 50 Plus guys chirping in with bs about why there are so few Plus teams? You obviously don't care about Plus ball or...maybe your one of the few guys that like winning meaningless plus "rings" when there are so few teams...

Anyway...I have gone on way to long for you to handle the bs.....sorry again...

Why would someone done with ssusa even care who was going to be playing in a ssusa event?

The reason 50 major teams do not want to play 50 major+,there are not enough teams at all 50+ tournament We just got moved up and we will play Major+ in the World in Vegas and hope their are 7 to 8 teams, We look forward to the challenge. As a 50 major team, we are 0 and 4 again 50 Major + (RATED)

(RATED) Team research

These were team counts for 50's major plus since last year

2012 Cal Cup 0 teams

2012 Western nationals 0 teams

2012 Worlds 7 teams

2012 Winter Worlds 0 teams

This is why 50 major team don't move up to 50 major+.

We can have team batting practice for less

Tim,
The CC and Western Natls are relatively soon after Reno and many brackets in each are short teams. Good events but team shortfalls hurt the supposedly big WIN.

For those wondering (or caring) the tournament plans for the NW Legends, we will be going to the NCSSA event in Manteca the middle of August. We decided to go there this year because there has always been Major+ teams in attendance. In recent years there has not been any (or very few) Major+ teams attending the Western Nationals.

The tournament format they use is very appealing ... taking the top 5-6 teams entered and playing a full round-robin. Every game counts! You could extend that to the team with the second best record plays the team with the best record for the championship, with the second place team having to beat the first place team twice to win it.

(Jawood), we are in favorite of the format you mention. Round Robin with 2nd place team have to beat the 1st place team twice. We are not in favorite of a straight Round Robin and best record is the champ. All tournaments should end with a championship game, even if it means one less game in round robin. (see you in Manteca) Rated

Now I know there 2 major + team showing up, who else will be there

Well, I'm not sure who is going to be there this year, but in the past Nazarreno, MTC and EBO has attended. With Rated, NWL and GSC(?) also attending, it will be a fun event. I know EBO has been moved down, but would they put them in the second pod of teams?

I agree with your comment of the need of a championship game!

I feel like I'm in the middle of a hijacked topic.... But
I cant find the flyer on this event in Mantica so I dont know the exact date. I do know the SCSSA's biggest event of the year is held the first part of September (7-8). Attendance is usually over 35 teams We have 24 teams pre-registered so far and more have given us verbals. Among the pre-registered in the 50M & 50M+ are AZ Elite, West Coast 50, Nazzarino Electric, Rawlings, Studs n Duds and LAF/Diversified. With $500 in CASH for first in each division I think there will be more. We can take a lot of teams as we have 8 very nice fields in Hemet. more info at www.socalssa.com Good luck wherever you go.

There might be a couple teams...no GSC, oldies reclassed to Major..legends out, Nazarino out.
We are playing (with a few guys missing friday/Saturday games) but it looks like it will be a mostly major tourney...
