March 29, 2004 Ted Sparks Men's 70 17 posts | SALEM TOURNAMENTS IN DOUBT The Salem, Oregon City Council recently replaced the group, headed by Benji Hedgecock, that had been running virtually all of the softball events in Salem for the past eleven years. The new group has exclusive access to the Wallace softball complex where all of the major events are held. Several of the upcoming events, including the ASA senior nationals Sept. 3 - 6, are under contract directly to the old group. There is a lawsuit pending and threats have been made to move these events to other locations, even out of state. ASA acknowledges that their contract is with the old group but has not yet announced if the event will be moved. It would not be advisable to make any non-refundable reservations involving Salem until this whole thing gets straightened out. |

April 2, 2004 Cobrapilot Men's 50 27 posts | Ted; A few teams from the Pacific NW are quite interested in what transpires here over the ASA Nationals on Sep 3-6. If you happen to find out more information on the event or the complex, please post here or email me at ricfloven@comcast.net? |
April 2, 2004 Ted Sparks Men's 70 17 posts | The lastest word from the regional ASA director is that ASA has secured the use of Wallace Fields in Salem for the Sept. 3 - 6 senior event. They are now negotiating with all parties to determine which group will actually run the event but it appears that it will be held as scheduled. Ted Sparks |
