RE; NCSSA HOF event this week at BLD in Manteca
There will be a Can-Sirs table set up probable in the Restaurant area and I'll be working it for the group on Fri \Sat. I'd like to meet as many of you as I can if interested. It's always nice to put faces to monikers and all.

It's a worth cause So try to support them if you can.

Taits, I will come by and see you. Does Can-Sirs have a 60s team? I will be 60 next year (kidney cancer survivor). Currently playing on a 50s team (Bad Seed).

There was a lack of communications along the line somewhere for there was no table set up though it was was available. I was there walking around Fri\Say all day both dayd until about 5pm.
I met Swing... and the crew from GSC,
Mr Nick I watched part of the Bad seed game from inside the building but did not remember your name nor that you were on that team. Sorry about that. I might drive up to Turlock on Sat, lmk if you'll be there.

Off the cuff note on event, John Reedy and crew put on a vg tournament. Brackets were imo pretty well matched up. Teams I knew were doing the unexpected in both good ways & not so well.
Saw more HR's there than any other event I've been to. All ages since I aw them all Fri\Sat.

Only down side was Am sun was a problem for many fields there, most all positions and or hitting,

The tournament was well run, evenly matched teams, good umpires, but two things bothered me. The 7 AM games and the condition of the fields has gotten so bad that there was more rubber in the infield than turf. What can we do about these problems?

jrd231 - I wonder if they could go back to dirt infields like Twin Creeks down the road.....

Would depend more I guess on winter schedule games as it's a pay to play complex with a cookie cutter franchise design.....

I agree on the 7 am starts and also the 8-9 pm games were something else.
But I feel they were done to get in all games. Some were late anyway which messed up everyone after. I saw one scoreboard go out for about 5 minutes and I don't think the clock was reset, but could be wrong there.
I agree on many of the infields were overly worn out but at least it was\is the same for both teams playing.

Pete, if you were there, I didn't see ya. I was walking around all day both days looking for guys I knew, sorry I missed ya.
BLD\FOD's are pay to play and pay to watch complexes, but great places to play.

Really enjoyed this tournament and seeing some old friends.

A couple of observations:

Some of the team uniforms are awesome. My favorites: Nor Cal Warriors, Oh My, NW Legends (to name a few - a lot of others are pretty cool too). I guess the days of a gray t -shirt with a number on the back are over.

Saw a few games of 50 Major Plus division. Wow! The distance and frequency of the home runs was unreal. In general, these guys are bigger and stronger than the players in other divisions. The down side: didn't see a lot of defense being played (not that they can't - just mostly 5 run innings with a lot of bombs). Thanks to NCSSA for allowing "over the limit" home runs to be "walks" instead of outs, otherwise it could get real ugly for the pitchers.

Looking forward to Las Vegas.

It was great that ncssa allowed the open bracket to have out of area teams.

Nazarino, Rated Sports, Legends and GSC sure added to the talent pool.

It was also nice that the NCSSA directors set it up so the top division started at 6 PM Saturday night and ended by mid day Sunday.

Imagine...5 or six games played in about 20 hours... Or....about 50 less hours then other events....great job.

On a personal note....going 1-4 with our only win being by two runs over a major team sure gave us an understanding of what competitive Plus ball looks like. Yikes!!!!!

It looked like everyone had a great time.

It was a well-run tournament with good umps and kept pretty much on time other than extra-inning games which are beyond the TD's control. The 7 am games were killers on 4 fields, either blinding the pitcher and middle infielders, or blinding all of the batters. One way is dangerous; the other ludicrous. I think pitching screens should be mandatory in such situations and should be provided by the park—depending upon possible batting practice screens by one of the teams is not good enough. I think the early schedule happened because of the large number of teams and the attempt to not have to use fields in neighboring communities. I suppose the same poor conditions applied if any games went into the sunset hours.

I actually thought the fields were better than in the past. Of course the infields should be resurfaced, but that takes money, and despite the $3.00 entrance fee per person, the money might not be there. I was critical in the past of the poor patching job on the base paths which made them unnecessarily dangerous, but most of the patching looked O.K. on the fields I played on. One exception was down the line to first on one field, where a hitter took a nasty face-first tumble because of a lip about 10 feet in front of 1B. It was so poorly done it could open up BLD to a negligence lawsuit. I also thought the outfield conditions with natural turf were better than some years in the past.

Omar, I agree. This tournament was well run, and a lot of fun. The umpires were great for the most part (except for the calls that went against us - lol).

SSUSA or NCSSA: Any chance of getting another tournament at this venue - perhaps earlier in the year?

Taits: Thanks for the email - hope you're feeling better soon.

After checking out all the bracket results, looks like 78 teams participated in this "local" tournament! Pretty good showing for NCSSA - certainly had the feel of a "national" tourney. Pretty fortunate to live in an area that supports Senior Softball.

TRD,
Bay area and so cal have over 100 teams in their areas all ages. valley had about 50-75. That is the prime event for NCSSA. That was the best to date. Think we'll see it from now on. With only 6 fields they would need Tracy complex to add more teams. That didn't work this year, they tied.

You going to Turlock?
