Oct. 14, 2013 SSUSA Staff 3483 posts | SEVERE PENALTIES FOR TWO MEN’S 40-MASTERS TEAMS Senior Softball-USA is levying one of its most severe penalties on two Men’s 40-Masters teams for their unsportsmanlike conduct during the World Masters Championships on Sunday, October 6th, at the Sunset Park Softball Complex in Las Vegas. Umpires and the Field Director reported that both teams showed extreme disrespect to umpires, the other team, the women and children watching the games and the Director during their championship game on Sunday. J.K. Inc. (CA) – and each J.K. player attending the WMC – has been suspended indefinitely from all SSUSA events because it was the team’s second offense of this nature. J.K. Inc. was previously suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct in 2009. Team Braves (CA) – and each Team Braves player attending the WMC – has been suspended for the 2014 season from all SSUSA events. Men’s 40-Masters managers and players were warned in an e-mail before the tournament and at the manager’s meeting that unsportsmanlike conduct and tactics of intimidation would not be tolerated. A copy of the code of conduct that is in the front of the Senior Softball Rulebook was also e-mailed to each team and player. “A ballplayer’s athletic ability is not a license for shameful behavior. This type of conduct is a disgrace to the sport and there is no place for it in senior softball,” wrote Terry Hennessy, SSUSA Chief Executive Officer, in his letter notifying both teams of their suspensions. “The National Director at your field is not only one of the best in the field, he is also one of the most even-tempered officials in the game. The umpire your team disrespected is not only a fine umpire, but a well-respected Hall of Fame player.“ The suspensions take effect immediately. |
