Pitching Mask
I am a pitcher for a 50's AAA team and read on here that there is a decent/good face mask available. Can someone tell me where I can get one or where to look??

i like the rip-it mask,as it is metal....it also is very light and has great vision, unlike some of the plastic masks.....also worth makes a pitching helmet which is pretty good.....i found mine on ebay...the rip-it can be found from $35-49....the worth helmet is around $60.....

I want to like the Rip-It--metal construction and better visibility on ground balls near your feet. But the one I bought two years ago just didn't fit. They were made for girls softball pitchers and the largest size didn't accommodate my head comfortably. I bought it on-line because no local sports store had it in stock.

I suggest you try it on before buying. Now that more and more pitchers are wearing a pitching mask, they may be making larger sizes, particularly with the newer model I hear about with a top bill to help with pitching into the sun.

If it fits mad dog, it may suit you and be a winner. Let us know if it fits you.

You can also check out Pitchers Helmet (http://www.pitchershelmet.com/). They also have adult sizes and you can get it with blackout technology to block any glare. Runs about $55.

Hey check out the Pichers Mask made by Worth. It's light weight plus durable. I use it to pitch against the young guys in a league that I play in.

Not too long ago there was a discussion here regarding pitchers wearing face masks. The post centered around a pitcher that sustained serious facial injuries when the plastic mask he was wearing shattered by a batted ball. I used to use a plastic mask and have since switched to a Rip-It Adult size mask and have been very happy with it. Better visibility and less glare than plastic.

The Rip-it mask is the best. I have never been hit in the face, but at 63 I started wearing the mask to keep it that way. Absolutely no effect on my pitching. I still field my position quite well, but not as well as with the mask. There are 1-3 balls that I feel I might have caught in a tournament if I did not have a mask, but feel it is smarter to be safe.

John, I thought it was more like my Bob Big Boy look! LOL! I actually look like the Wolverine when I bat, because the sides of my hair are up on the sides when I remove the mask. How the heck are you doing John? Say hi to Pam for me. Hope to see you and Pam some time in the future.

Take care my friend,

Andy

Andy,
Couldn't resist the dig. We're fine, Pam's still working 3 days a week. Followed Venom's season, sounds like you have a great group of guys. Tell Gary and the guys hi for us. Looking to play 65s with Gusto, hope to see you at a tourney. Wolverine, huh? Only from the neck up!
