Teams leaving SSUSA?
On a serious note.....just wondering what effect these rule changes (HR / Facemask) are going to have on teams playing in SSUSA tournaments in the upcoming season?

Has any teams made the decision to opt out playing SSUSA ? And, if so, if your team has, will you name your team?

Maybe this will let SSUSA see how this decision MAY hurt their standings towards teams that played in their tournaments last year!

I can see if, like, 5 teams choose to drop out and play elsewhere it not hurting SSUSA, but if a lot of teams choose to leave, that may open
their eyes!

I, for one, love playing the SSUSA circuit and look forward to Vegas every year....but, alas, my team has chose not to play SSUSA and since I don't pay the bills I can only follow!

Again, just wondering

Wow....a team that gets bumped to Plus decides to skip attempting to compete in it!

Unheard of...could this be a new trend;-)

I think there are a lot more reasons why teams are not playing or playing as much.

Money for one thing has teams playing closer to home.

More senior associations hold events more regionally.

Rules for making a team is another, in the northeast it is very difficult to compete with the current rules. other associations have made concessions to the northeast to make it easier to put teams together that are competitive.

These are just a few there are many more.

Tattoo....I agree...with the obvious success of SSUSA, others are comming after our senior dollars.

In NorCal we have local senior programs that give us a whole season worth of senior softball within 60 miles from home.

Traveling is a choice...not a need.

Tim, we were also bumped to M+ in SPA and are still going to play there...so, I am assuming it has more than just getting bumped up....our team knew we were going to get bumped and was, is looking forward to playing in the M+ division!

as for travel, I guess I just live in a region where it dictates I have to drive some miles to play.....

But, again, to ask the original question...are other teams opting out on SSUSA tournaments ?

"1st Annual World Protestation Tournament" a Fall Smasher!
Unlimited Home Runs! - No Mask requirement! - Open to all Major and Major Plus teams - 7 runs per inning (major+) 6 runs per inning (Major) - 7 innings games - 2 hour game slots - Safety lead off rule - more?

I wonder... If they build it would they come?

Of course we are shoot, what are they thinking trying make senior softball pitchers to wear mask. That's like trying to make us stop swinging senior bats. What, think about pitchers safety, no way they just want to stop guys from hitting HR's. Yeah I don't think I feel very good about hitting a pitcher in the face by accident.

We must travel not really any Senior leagues for us in the Tropics! Vegas is the cheapest for us so there we go! Aloha, Fabe

Something to think about. The SPA has its Rules committee meeting in January, I believe. There is a possibility the SPA will adapt the DBO and mandatory pitchers headgear.

SPA is the dominant organization in the SE, with the possible exception of South Fla. It will be interesting to see if the SPA follows the SSUSA's lead on these rule changes or not.

Adiktiv6, even though TM50/Tim, implies you guys don't' want to play M+, for us who know Adiktiv Sports, we know you all will do great in whatever division you play. We also know there are no other + teams within 500 miles for you to play.

Perl,

It is true that our team is going to be limited on where to play this year, just have to see what is offered ! I think U-TRIP is opening a Senior division this coming season! Maybe an option for us, maybe not! How ever it works out, we will playing somewhere, I'm sure!

Paco and perl,

Getting bumped up is not the reason our Adiktiv team won't play SSUSA, not matter what Tim says. Our decision is based on PRINCIPAL. We choose not to play because of the DBO rule. If enough teams did the same they would listen to us. Guarantee that there will be a rash of pitchers hit this year because of the DBO. That is a proven fact

Maybe it is time for another senior softball organization, one that listens to the players and is not just interested in shortening games and making money.

Tim there are very few Major plus teams on the eastcoast and south. We will be spotting 5 runs or and extra fielder in most of the tourneys we play.

Again we choose to play where we can have some fun.

USSA looks like a good possibility and again maybe a new organization.

Merry Christmas

Marv 19,

Can you give me the info on the Protestation tourney you were talking about. I am sure you won't be playing in it.

Sounds like a great tourney to me. Probably have to turn teams down.

2 hour games sound great to me. I come to play..

I'm just saying.

PattyMac, not once did I say we were not playing SSUSA because we got bumped to M+ ! As you can read, I stated because of the rule changes (HR/Facemask) we, Adiktiv Sports, choose not to compete in SSUSA tournaments this year!

And if SPA, also, change their rules to DBOs, are we going to do the same, based on principal, choose not to play SPA? But, maybe this isn't the forum to discuss that!

To my original point, so far it looks like we are the only team making such a stand...but, it has to start somewhere!

Patty Mac and A dik (Paco) I for one hope Adiktiv Sports rethinks your boycotting of the SSUSA. Since you all have been tagged as a one dimensional, HR or nothing team, that should challenge you to win Vegas-DBO or not.

An absolute nightmare for a pitcher would be facing Ronnie, Paco, Lang, Patty Mac, Ananias, Tim Lee, Merrill and the rest with no HRs left to hit.

You can prove a point by not playing SSUSA or you can prove a point by playing and showing that you play D, basehit, have power and are a complete TEAM.

My bet is everybody in our little corner if the world is pulling for you to play.

Do you really have to live and die by the home run to win in the major plus division? If you think so, think again. Did anyone notice that the winners of the Major Plus 65 division in Las Vegas didn't come close to hitting their limit of home runs in any game, had ten players and only three of them were healthy. Of course they hit 800+ as a team. There is much more to the division than hitting the long ball.

Perl, would your last post be called a........perlJAM...

I am with you......

It's going to be interesting to see who has the talent to stand out with the new dbo rules..

Also...as oddball said.....I have heard from others, very rarely do 65 and up Plus teams reach their home run limit so were really only talking about three age groups.

I often read your comments on the Oldscout and agree with a lot of your opinions. That probably puts me in the minority but if you are right you're right.

I have a number of friends on the Adiktiv team and believe they could win the 50 M+ division in Vegas with or without the DBO. Hopefully they will rethink their decision to boycott SSUSA tournaments.

You obviously like the DBO for your reasons and many of us don't like it. Today the DBO is in place in the SSUSA, maybe tomorrow that will change?

Perl,

Thanks for vote of confidence....I would like very much to play SSUSA.

Looking forward to running a 3 man outfield this year, as I know Em and I love running the ball down.

And not to leave anyone out....think of Rolo hitting the ball down , ouch, Chief hitting his line shots as he walks in the box, and Emery, who puts the ball where ever he likes, Mikie hitting the 5-6 hole, and Dave coming in to give us that clutch hit when we need one!

Not to mention the new kid on the block......heard he loves playing a 3-man OF and kills the ball.....should be a pretty good year no matter where we play!

Looking forward to it, however it works out!

Marv19,

I think you would have plenty of teams wanting to play in your tournament. Many teams would like to play a complete game of 7 innings. Our team played in SPA, and all games after seeding was a full 7 innings. We as players can't ask for more.

Knowing you will play 7 innings a game will make teams want to compete against the stronger Major + team because the team knows they will play a full game instead of 4 innings and time limit. At the end of the day, a team may only have play 15 innings in a weekend. (This happen to us in Vegas at the World, we spend three days in Vegas and played 15 innings between Friday and Sunday. )

Also, scheduling is a big concern, long waits in between games is not good. Some tournaments, our team spend more time on the freeway than on the field playing softball.

Format is a big concern, I would like to see 1 game seeding than double elimination, we need to get away from 5 game round robin, at our age it all about a tournament format. Win and move on, loose and go home

Guys, Love the bloviating. But so far thats all it is. Not been contacted by anyone yet. I emailed David (AZ Elite) about a month ago about an unlimited HR tournement. "Sumer Smasher" He loved the idea but untill I get some serious players (teams) all it is talk.
"if they come it can be built" :O)

Merry Christmas

I really enjoyed battling Adiktiv last year. I will probably boycott SSUSA this year. I know with the new rule they're going to be middle wars every weekend and I want no part of seeing dudes carried off on stretchers. Hope you do well in M+.

Hopefully you will reconsider boycotting SSUSA . There is a possibility that the SPA will adapt the DBO rule also. The way to have the rule changed to no DBO is to play with the DBO, have middle wars if that's what's going to happen and hopefully show the organizations that the rule change wasn't good for the game. You need multiple teams to boycott to have a significant impact and that's unlikely since we all love this game and our choices of tournaments/organizations are limited.

At the end of the day we are all blessed to have the game and friendships no matter what rules we play by.

The SSUSA is going to give their reasons for the rule changes in the next newsletter. It will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Don't like the rules or way things are done, gather up the teams that don't like them and start a new association. I think you will have trouble pleasing everyone.

Good morning/afternoon to all....

First, I would like to say that i coach a Team in the Major Classification...and i really Do-not have a problem with the ruling of the Dead Ball Out.Sure we all like to hit-em til we quit..but times are changing. All my life i have been living by the rules of play. When i was in school..we had rules when i played baseball..football..basketball..and when i ran track, more rules. When i turned 18, I joined the US ARMY,oops more rules and these were more stringet...I was told when to get up..told when to go to bed, told when to eat, then they trained me and told me where to go and fight...Follow the guidelines/rules or get out...i adapted to the established rules and procedures and stayed for 30 years..do i regret it,HELL-NO!! My point is this...We have all followed some type of rule or laws and we have survived, what is it now at our age that we can't understand. The ruling isn't that bad..why should we as Seniors be an exception to the rules.Every association out there that is worth a ..... will make rules to abide by.I have the upmost respect for Paco...Patty Mac..and others that are against the ruling....but it is the RULING..its the LAW OF THE LAND.If you hate the ruling enough to keep your team from participating..GOOD!! Don't play !! I applaud Perl for his attempt to gather the flock and lets just play ball.My second two cents is this..i am a Father and a Grandfather..and you guys are fathers and Grandfathers..we pray on the mound and ask for special prayers for the sick..but yet we will go out and try to mame an individual that is out there to have fun just like YOU.My Team, the Atlanta Monarchs/Miken-50 are comprised of Retired Military from All four branches of Services and if they don't understand nothing else, they understand Order of Discipline..Respect..and the Rules we play by..TAKE IT or Leave it..or play elsewhere. We will be playing SSUSA,and i am the Coach.

Once again,I respect the things that you have said..and this is no way being Personal against anyone..this is just my Humble Thought on the matter...just like a nickel everyone has one.

Look forward to seeing you and the Monarchs soon.

I've been taking some BP with your boy Mike York, he is a beast.

Hey Marv19- Sommerville Softball (50 Major Plus)will definitely play in your "Smasher" tournament barring schedule conflicts. I would also think that would be an easy tourney for Nazzarino, GSC, AZ Elite to make and perhaps we could get some Eastern teams(Adiktiv?OKI?) to come out and visit California.
Thanks,

Mango, I'll make you a deal. Normally I don't speak for all of our guys but if you guys can arrange to pay for all of our transportation costs we (OKI) will be happy to come out to California and play in that smasher tournament. :)
Hope all is well with you and yours!!

Hey Stick,
All is well! Sorry I can't help you out on the costs but OKI would be a great team for a tourney like that. I'm not sure what your travel plans are but some of the west coast teams ( AZ Elite, East Bay, MTC, GSC, NW Legends and Sommerville) have been collaborating via email to try and shape our schedules so that we maximize tournament participation.

If you guys want in on the email loop and can come to one more west coast tournament other than the SSUSA Vegas worlds let me know.

We also would be interested in hearing from any other eastern 50 major plus teams that have an interest in collaborating schedules.

Sommerville is looking to play east and would like to go where there is the most participation. In the past we've gone to SPA but heard there might be some problems with the impact players list. We are open to suggestions.
