| Dec. 20, 2013 cal50 Men's 50 328 posts | 1 up rule Staff, Was there a discussion at the rules committee to change from DBO to a 1 up rule on home runs limits? Did anyone bring up about having 11 fielders at all times? Most teams, if not all teams bring plenty of players. These 2 may be the best of both worlds, giving some protection to the pitcher and allowing for more home runs when both teams hit them. |
| Dec. 20, 2013 SSUSA Staff 3483 posts | The "1-up Rule" received mention in a couple of general comments, principally within the context of considering a simple 1-Up Rule without any set limits by division. The concept of 1-Up after set limits was not discussed. The 11-defensive-player discussion was the same this year as in all recent years: the issue being whether or not to extend that defensive configuration to ages below 70. In both instances the discussions were brief and did not result in any motions for further consideration. |
| Dec. 20, 2013 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Both those; 1-up and 11 man D work and you are aware of that so why no serious discussion. It works well in NCSSA as you are aware down to 65's bracket. Heck, just get back to the game as it was a decade ago. That could apply to equipment (balls, bats) too. Signed the Grinch...lol |

| Dec. 20, 2013 Tim Millette 615 posts | If you are thinking about 1 up, I think any homer over the one up should be a dbo...and....the Homerun totals should be lowered.... I support getting the non-Homerun hitters and defensive players more envolved with senior ball...having unlimited homeruns hurts the historical playing of softball. |

Two power teams still have fun when they meet, AND teams with lesser power can/are very competitive. You here us tout NCSSA a lot on here, this rule is a big reason why. SSUSA really blew it all the way around with this one. Donnie. |

I never thought about what Tim Milette said about excess homers over the 1-up being outs is an idea worth considering. If SSUSA is serious about moving more teams up to Major Plus then ideas like this with help accomplish this. |
| Dec. 21, 2013 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | A good compromise in the Hr rule would be the 1 up but it you are there and hit another that would be a CBO since you went over 1 up. Until the other team hits another one to even it up they are DBO. Constructive meeting of minds a win win only hails when you don't have an open mind. If the other team fails to hit another HR to even HR's up. The team one up better not hit any more simple as that. Even if its a sandbagging team and they choose or can not match HR's it's still even in that both that hit one either get one or a DBO. |
