| Dec. 26, 2013 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | I finally picked up a Schultz Titanium Fielders mask. After looking around for about a year now I came across one in a SA store. It is a wire type mask with no obstruction of view and very light. It is about as close to wearing nothing that I think you are going to get and still get protection for your face. I found that the regular pitching helmet etc way too heavy for me and would be a total distraction for me when pitching. I will start working out with it after the 1st of the year but I don't see any problem with it. |
| Dec. 26, 2013 AcePV Men's 60 29 posts | Rip-It metal mask is an excellent mask that provides great safety and good visibility; and you can easily wear sunglasses no problem. I would suggest that you stay away from the plastic type masks for safety reasons. |
| Dec. 27, 2013 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | ace ,you have it right..the rip-it mask is all metal and has great vision...i have been using mine for the last 2 years,whether pitching or playing the infield..... fred do you mean schutt fielding mask,as i found no schultz....the schutt looks just like the rip-it..you should really like it..... |

| Dec. 27, 2013 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | AZ..mine is attached with velcro...i also put some stick on type on the chin pad...guess ya could also sew it on also...keep it out of the heat as the one on the mask will come loose.... |
| Dec. 27, 2013 Az Iz 66 posts | My mask is also attached with velcro, but it does not stay in place. If I take the mask off to set it down the chin pad falls off. I think there must be a way for the pad to be kept in place. I know of a few guys that lost the chin pad because it didn't stay attached. |
| Dec. 27, 2013 AcePV Men's 60 29 posts | My chin pad came off so I did a one-time fix that will probably last for years and it was cheap and really simple!.......a little Gorilla glue!! I just glued it and let it sit overnight. Don't use too much because it does expand. Good luck. |
| Dec. 27, 2013 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | AZ ....i put the velcro on the chin pad as mine would come off also after 2 years of use ....i used the sticky velcro pads and stuck them to the chin pad.........it sticks pretty good now again.... |

| Jan. 11, 2014 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | Don't get mad, and throw a titanium mask. Yes they are light weight, but they're not the most durable masks around. Seen guys in baseball wearing them as umps, and players. The foul balls will bend the cage on occasion. |
| Jan. 12, 2014 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | Wayne 37: That is interesting to hear. I tried mine in an indoor game last week and it didn't bother me at all. At times it felt like I had no mask on at all. One big down side to it was you can't wear regular glasses underneath, at least the glasses I have as the corner's stick out just a little. I wear wrap around sport safety glass, which saved me when I got hit on the left eye, so it won't effect me when I wear them. |

| Jan. 17, 2014 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | It is rounded mask. It is no problem as I wear the wrap around safety sports lenses when I play. What it could use is a larger pad. We will see at the TOC. Not that I want to get hit just to test it. My main problem is low balls below my knees. Can't bend like I used to. Most of my hits are in my lower leg area which is why I started wearing shin pads. I think I have only been hit in the head once. That is only the one time that I can remember that I never seen the ball coming. If I see it I can catch it or knock it down around waist up. |

I was told that lin league play it was up to the league,and thats ok, but there rule said all sanctioned events the mask is mandated,here's the problem that i see coming if our league does not enforce the rule we will be open to a lawsuit,because we are scantion through SSUSA. does lawyer ring a bell to anyone. |
| Jan. 17, 2014 JBTexas Men's 70 434 posts | Larry, SASSL was told the same thing, we are encouraging them but not manatory. You could have a law suit either way if your force them to wear it or you don't. More refuse to use it then then the other way around. |
| Jan. 18, 2014 LP 317 posts | JB my piont is that if leagues don't make mandatory like the rule says some guy that gets hurt will sue and the ins. doesnt cover it he will sue the league and whos the league the board members, so thats who a lawyer will go after, this desision by SSUSA HAS put leagues in a very bad spot. the rule states all sanction events the mask is mandatory well to be a member of SSUSA you have to be scantioned. SSUSA should have put in there that league play a mask was not mandatory. so what makes league play anymore safe than tournament play, we are going to enforce the mask rule in our league to protect our butts-- good luck if you all don't. |

| Jan. 20, 2014 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | If anybody is interested in wearing protective shin guards, I would suggest the ones from Gerry Davis' umpire equipment site. They are super lightweight, and easy to run in. |
