| March 2, 2014 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Fat Nancy's Challenge In Indiana we have two of the finest tournaments in the country, the SSUSA Brickyard and ISA Senior World, but still no Fat Nancy's team has been sited yet in the state playing senior softball. Since I am about as close to a Fat Nancy as we have seen here yet, and I am very hopeful since we had a team from Delaware at the Brickyard last year, I wish to issue a challenge to the Fat Nancy's team to play in Indiana this year for at least one tournament on your schedule. Hopefully you will take me up on it and not make me bring a bus to Syracuse. ;-) |

| March 3, 2014 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | What an interesting question, In all the years that we had a team, I guess that we concentrated more on competition than on attractions. Since you asked though, we have the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. There is a museum there, and often in May tours of the track or being able to watch cars testing on the track are possible. Nick Goepper, our Olympic medalist, skied the track today. We are the racing capitol of the World, and there are several asphalt and dirt tracks in close proximity that race on the weekends. We hosted a Super Bowl, and our downtown is first class including many things to do and eating opportunities. St. Elmo Steak House is Peyton Manning's favorite restaurant here; it is expensive but worth it (Harry and Izzy's is the baby brother restaurant). If you are looking for other types of restaurants, just ask. Our Monument Circle is a great place to visit in May, and our Indiana War Memorial is the only state memorial like it in the country and is very meaningful to veterans and those of us who support our military, and the Shrine Room is a treasure. It was built by WW I veterans, both Americans and allies. We have a minor league baseball team, the Indianapolis Indians in a beautiful stadium. They are away during the Brickyard weekend, but they play Syracuse here April 26 - 29 by coincidence. If bringing wives or grand kids, I can offer other venues. If there is something else you want to do besides play softball, just ask, and I will find it. I have been watching Fat Nancy's from afar; we traveled with our team up until 2007. So it is only a timing issue that I have not seen them play yet; I know about the bait shop. I have been to Syracuse many times as my work often took me to Rome, New York, and we rooted for Eli in both the Super Bowls he played. So let me know what else you want to know about our Indy, and I am at your service. I just have a small goal to try to get Fat Nancy's to play here too. I should not be the only senior softball Fat Nancy here. Even if they don't come, I will continue to be a fan. |
| March 12, 2014 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | After looking at the tournament information for the Northeast Championships, I think that I get it on things to do listed there. So here it goes, I am not into shopping (other than for softball), but we have lots of first class shopping if that is what makes your woman happy. We are not known for BBQ, but we have lots of options for it and even chicken and waffles. I prefer chicken wings, and while we may not be Buffalo, we have lots of different takes on it. We have many local breweries, and you can get growlers on Sunday at some. You can stand in the shadows of our Colts' or Pacers' stadiums or see Hinkle Fieldhouse of Butler and Hoosiers fame. Some people like the NCAA Hall of Champions, never been inside, just walk past it on our city canal. We have 3 IMAX theaters and lots of museums. Need suggestions for grandkids? Just ask. Of course once a year in May, we are graced by the lovely Dave Dowell. Did I leave anything off from the Syracuse categories? Still hoping to see Fat Nancy's here this year. I thought about this when I drove into work this morning and chuckled because Coachie and I always only thought about things to do when the team did not survive until Sunday. Otherwise it was ballpark, motel, food, and hanging around the motel parking lot or public area. |

They color it green for St. Patrick's Day. I really just hope that people come here because of the nice complex and good competition. I think that my softball goals are pretty small this year: 1. Get Fat Nancy's to play in Indiana 2. Further pursue senior indoor softball which Steve Simmons and I often talked about. Those of us in the snow belt states need a way to stay engaged in playing since we cannot play outside unless we go snowbird. |

| March 23, 2014 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Hey, Corky, I've been right here. They play indoor at Sports Park too. What Steve and I talked about was indoor senior qualifiers and an indoor senior world. There are a lot of facilities that play indoor in the Midwest, but there is no competitive senior program. The facility that you are at is where the last NSA Indoor World Series was held long, long ago. I played coed in it; so you know it was ancient history. |
