Is this altering a bat?????
I have a very old gray combat that I use in a pick up league. Over time it has developed quite a few small chips-holes-NOT cracks. I took some black adhesive rubber cemment and filled in the holes and the holes have stopped spreading-getting bigger. I have two black Ultras with many hits on them that I use in tournament play. If I did the same thing to them would SSUSA view that as altering the bat????

Chips coming off the graphics I see all the time but I do not see holes that go through to the whole wall.
Off hand I'd say since it's not original material or manufactured\repaired by the company to fill the 'holes', it more than likely is considered altered or at least illegal for game use.

But as we know bat checks are not very accurate or closely inspected or monitored as it were.

I know of a cracked bat still in use by a player I see once in awhile. The danger in this is if the bat separates when hitting and a part of it hits someone.

Play it safe just use it for BP or ask your ump if you really want to use it in game.

Garyheifner, I can't speak for all umpires but I would consider that altering a bat. Your applying a foreign substance on the bat which is altering it from it's original design.
Question I have: you pointed out you use this bat in a "pick up" league. To me "pick up" means a bunch of guys getting together to play. Is this league sanctioned by SSUSA, SPA, USSSA, ASA, or any other association where the teams may pay a sanction fee?

Pick up league means just a bunch of guys divide into two teams, self umpire and play a dlb header
