May 30, 2014 Super 2 posts | Trump Softballs There has been some discussion about the Trump softball that was used in the Reno Tournament. According to what I have heard there are three types of Trump softballs. The Max Flight is the top rated ball then there are two other balls that are not as good in terms of flight coming off the bat. The Trump ball that was used in Reno this past week was not the Max Flight and was in my opinion inferior to the softball used in the Vegas SSUSA tournament last month. Feedback/opinions? |

May 31, 2014 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | SSUSA Staff is correct. The ball is not as good, and it keeps the ball in play more. The teams with the strong power hitters, still are hitting them out of the park, just not as far. I have to admit that at Golden Eagle, the ball was flying out of the park frequently, just not for our team. I guess my team needs to go back to the weight room. I do have to say most of our players will be ready to play 65's next season and several are already over 65, so that is probably our problem playing 60's this season. Next season, we will be a young 65 team with no power. LOL! JMHO, Andy Smith, R & R Strokers |
May 31, 2014 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | There are 4 different balls that are approved by SSUSA. Three of them look alike other than two of them have additional logo stamps on them (those two are the Texas and Florida Half Century balls). The 4th ball is the ISA ball and it is a slightly different color and it does not have the SSUSA stamp on it. This ball seems to perform a little better (maybe 5%) than the other three. Is there anyone out there that really believes that putting a THC or FHC stamp on a ball makes it better? I ask because we were accused of using better balls than our opponent in LV. We used both the standard SSUSA and the THC Balls against them. We've tested those 2 balls along with the ISA ball over the past 2-3 weeks and have found that only the ISA ball offers any type of advantage. We did not have any FHC balls or we would have included them in our field testing. We were told by SSUSA that we could use either of the 4 balls in Reno but this changed when we began play. Only the standard SSUSA ball could be used unless both managers agreed otherwise. I had no problem with this because there would have been controversies throughout the event. While we would prefer to use the ISA ball, I personally feel that it does offer an advantage and not every team has them. We would not want to use a superior ball any more than we would use an Ultra 1 when other teams are using double wall bats. Bob Woodroof |
June 1, 2014 Cman 10 posts | I had heard that the altitude in Reno effects the flight of the ball.We had different results on each field, wind being a factor also. Field 15 (Golden Eagle) was the only place we maxed out on our 6 HR's, an they came early. Great park an fields, beautiful place to play |
