MIKEN TRIAD BLACKOUT SEHIOR BAT
I bought my Blackout back in February and I have hit it since in tournaments and in practice. In my opinion it is as broken in as its going to get and still their is little difference if any the my Miken Triad Maxload ASA. In the interim I have swung other bats that teamates have let me use and have been truly impressed. The number one being the Miken UltraII and to a lesser extent with Miken Ultra II Maxload. Both are superior bats and are hands down better than the Blackout. My three month warranty just expired in May 2014 and have already ordered my own UltraII; 34/29. Don't get me wrong , its a nice bat but its NO Ultra II. If I could sell it I would, but after 3 months it would be too much of a loss.

Evening Hondaf, are you referring to performance only or overall fell, swing weight, etc.?

Actually the bat feels tremendous in your hands; the handle, the weight28oz), the two pieces, etc. I changed the grip to the lizard skin making it feel even better. The performance is honestly no better than the same bat with the new ASA logo; I have both as I still play ASA. I can't say that it needs to be broken-in, as I have many, many cuts on it. It just doesn't have the same distance as the Ultra II. I liked the Ultra II so much I immediately bought one to be my game bat.

Hey Honda, while I have no doubt you will be more than happy with the balanced one piece Ultra II, the question will be durability. Just speaking from my own experiences with this bat, ( I also had a few 29oz.) it is very fragile. I would only use it in batting practice at first for no more than 30-40 swings then keep it in the bag except for tourney ball. No more bp after that.

I hope it lasts you !

The ultra ll has been the standard of performance for quite a while, but they did have durability problems. One of our heavy hitters usually went through at least two a year. In reading blogs and talking to dealers like Alan I think they have addressed those problems with the new TOC(medium end load) and Big Mike's bat(heavy end load), while still retaining top performance. Just my opinion from an average Joe.

Hey Hemi, I was speaking only about the durability of the one piece balanced Ultra II that Honda had purchased. I agree with you the newer 2 pieces seem more durable. This year I've been using the 2 piece Max Load which I got from Alan ( not that that matters ) but have been very happy with it. It already has about 130 swings on it and is holding up well. I'm sure the TOC and Big Cat would hold up as well as the Max Load. Alan would be a better source as far as info on durability since i do not have either of those 2 bats. I agree the Ultra II is the most popular bat for teams 55 and older, just look in the dugouts. For 50 ' s teams, there are quite a mix of bats and a lot fewer black Ultra II'S than the older divisions and it is primarily due to lack of durability. IMHO

To make the above statement more correct, I should add that the majority of 55 teams as well have less of a percentage of players using the one piece Ultra II than the 60 and above players. For the 50 and 55 teams, in the dugouts seem to be more Reeboks, DiMarini, Combats and 2 piece Ultras.

Got you now, understand and agree. Probable right on the young folks, love to watch them but haven't paid much attention to their bats. Thanks for post.

Thx to all posts. Looking forward to getting my new 34/29 Ultra II. Playing in a FLHC SOFTBALL later on in June in West Palm Beach. Will have bat broken-in hopefully and not just broken.

So why would I waste my time and money with the Triad Blackout (90 day warranty) when a good USSSA bat breaks in just as fast or faster and has a 1 year warranty?

I am new (turning 50 next month) to Senior Softball and bought the Miken Ultra II, only to break it within 40 days. No cage work and only hitting league balls. This bat was smoking hot right out of the wrapper.
I purchased the Blackout due to the immediate "jump" of the Ultra II and also the 90 days warranty. The Blackout was not hot right away but is getting there, and so far is holding together nicely.
Truth is, I am a fan of the Miken product and am looking to get a fastpitch bat from them.
Just my 2 cents.
