QUESTION FOR SSUSA STAFF ON RULE 14,2 (4)- C AGE GROUP 75
RULE QUESTION : WHY SUCH A DRASTIC CHANGE ON THE 75 AGE GROUP " C " RULE FROM 2014 TO 2015. I could see changing 5 players age 74 down to 2 or 3 , but not doing away with all 5 PLAYERS FOR 2015.
JUST ASKING.

RULE:
14.2(4) • AGE ELIGIBILITY AND GROUPING
B. For the 2014 season, men's 80+ age division teams
may draw seven players aged 78 or 79; including
not more than three 78 year olds. (EXAMPLE: 80+
teams may have four players aged 79 and three
aged 78). For the 2015 season, men's 80+ age
division teams may draw three players aged 79.
For the 2016 season and thereafter, men's 80+
age division teams must be comprised only of
players aged 80 or older.
C. For the 2014 season, men's 75+ age division teams
may draw five players one year younger than the
minimum age. (EXAMPLE: 75+ teams may have five
players aged 74). For the 2015 season and
thereafter, men's 75+ age division teams must be
comprised only of players aged 75 or older.

The underage player allowances were instituted several years ago when the 75+ and 80+ Divisions were just getting started and were under-populated ... That is not the case now, as the health of both age groups is excellent ... Recently, there have been teams that were putting older players in those age groups "on waivers" so they could snap up the underage guys ... This had the effect of dis-enfranchising those released players, leaving them no place to play, especially in the 80+ Division ...

The change was structured to phase in the rule and prevent any underage player that was already on a roster from having to be replaced ... After the phase-in period, the 75+ and 80+ Divisions will have age eligibility determined in the same manner as the younger groups, with all players being required to have reached the minimum age for the Division ...

Hope this helps ...

SSUSA- thanks for your prompt response, I can understand now why the rule will be put into effect.
