| Aug. 6, 2014 player00 1 posts | EASTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR. I THINK THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS CATERED TO THE MEN TO MUCH. I GET TIRED OF THE WOMEN BEING PUT ON THE BACK BURNER. IT RAINED AND WE ONLY HAD 7 TEAMS IN OUR DIVISION AND THEY TRIED TO GET ALL THE MEN GMS IN. I THINK THEY COULD'VE GAVE US 1 FIELD TO PLAY ON SAT BECAUSE YOU KNEW IT WAS GOING TO RAIN ALL DAY. YOU LET THE MEN PLAY TWO GMS IN FRONT OF US AND THEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR US TO PLAY OUR POOL PLAY IT POURED DOWN. WE ONLY GOT TO PLAY 3 INNINGS AND THEN HAD TO GET UP SUNDAY MORNING AND PLAY AT 7AM AND I DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS FAIR TO THE WOMEN. THEN ON SUNDAY MORNING WE HAD TO FINISH POOL PLAY AND WE DIDN'T GET TO PLAY ANYONE THAT WAS IN OUR BRACKET AND ON TOP OF THAT WE ONLY GOT TO PLAY 5 INNINGS AND I DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS FAIR TO THE WOMEN. I THOUGHT WE SHOULD'VE PLAYED AT LEAST ALL 7 INNINGS. I THINK THE TOURNAMENT COULD'VE BEEN RAN A LITTLE BETTER. |

| Aug. 6, 2014 SSUSA Staff 3489 posts | We rarely respond to "complaint issue" threads, but occasionally a post is so far from the reality of the situation, that a reply is warranted ... This is one of those times ... At the Eastern Nationals, play was scheduled all day for Session #2 across nine diamonds from Friday through Sunday ... Friday afternoon, the rains came and 15 games were rained out ... The Directors scrambled to get those lost games rescheduled for early Saturday, which happened, but Fields #6-9 were in much worse shape and were deemed "unplayable" by the City of Raleigh until at least 10:00 AM, losing another eight games on the schedule ... The Directors were informed of that City of Raleigh degtermination at about 6:15 AM Saturday, at which time they began working to draft an alternative plan for Saturday and Sunday ... All teams were told to report at 7:30 AM ... Saturday began under revised game formats (5-inning games with the 5th inning the "open inning") and things were actually progressing fairly well for a while ... Until the rains, accompanied by lightning and thunder, returned at about 1:20 PM ... Play was terminated for the day by the City of Raleigh, and the Directors were informed that the rains were so severe that Fields #6-9 were determined to be "unplayable" for ALL OF SUNDAY as well ... So a second reschedule was then commenced under the following criteria: • All Divisions (except Men's 60-AA, who had played two games each on Friday early) would complete their Seeding games, using Fields #1-5 only ... The washed out Friday games were scheduled as the first priority, completing games that had been suspended in progress and followed by unplayed Friday games ... Saturday seeding games, for the Women (who were not scheduled to play Friday) and one unfinished Men's 50-AAA seeding game, were the second priority and were completed early Sunday ... It was at this time, the attention shifted to constructing brackets ... • ALL brackets, FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, were revised to a Single Elimination format so that a tournament could actually be played ... The revised schedule resulted in EVERY TEAM in the Session #2 portion having the opportunity to play at least three games, and to have champions determined on the fields of play rather than by reference to current standings or seeding positions ... This was done by rescheduling the 49 Sunday games on to only five of the nine planned available fields ... • We are extremely proud of the Tournament Directors and City of Raleigh parks professionals on site for pulling this off despite the incredibly difficult circumstances present, those imposed by Mother Nature and completely outside of their control ... • Lastly, thank you to all of the players and managers who, after recognizing that adverse weather is outside of their ability to influence, were so cooperative during the extensive delays and uncertainty ... The tournament eventually concluded in a manner that far exceeded our expectations at the height of the storms ... |
| Aug. 8, 2014 Robo2 238 posts | I have played in tournaments for 40+ years. I have had rainouts many times over. We played one game Friday followed by one game Sat (7:30 AM). Because we won, we played 2 games Sunday. Sat and Sunday were 5 inning games. Oh well! One cannot beat Mother Nature. NICE JOB DOING WHAT YOU COULD SSUSA DIRECTORS. It is a thankless job but you did well. Thank you for your efforts. |
| Aug. 11, 2014 paul0784 Men's 60 218 posts | I also played in the tournament and the only question I have is when we got caught up why didn't we go back to seven innings. Our finals went off at the posted time and we only played five innings still? Not sure on that one? |

If an Eastern National Champion does not go to Las Vegas, their invitation to participate in the USA National Championship game is extended to the Eastern Runner-up ... If that Runner-up is not attending in Las Vegas, there will be no USA National Championship game in that division ... |
